Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
the town hall?
Unless you count lock-ins at the Little Three or the George, there's nothing that happens after hours in our little town. Unless of course you are a nubile sixteen year old girl, in which case I have a VIP room.
Amadeus in Nothallerton (9 miles)
Live Music Venues
The Three Tuns Hotel hosts a folk/acoustic night every thursday at 9pm. Its an open evening with no charge. Highly recommended. Everything played from traditional folk music to the Beatles.
the lord nelson has gigs now and again ive been 2 1 and wot a racket it was!
The Nelsion is the best place for gigs in Thirsk! WooHoo!!
ALl over, Gormire lake Rock Quest shud be awesome I reckon!
The nelly holds punk gigs if you like that sort of thing.
Hey trace and podd
The Nelson hosts irregular punk nights featuring the cream of Thirsk's musical crop. There are also regular discos at the Dingles. Fun for all the family (as long as you are either a mosher or braindead)
St Oswalds Church Sowerby. Regulay concerts organised by Sowerby Music see http://www.thirsk.org.uk/sowmp1.html

The real name of the 'Little Three' is Ye Olde Three Tuns - and shouldn't be confused with The Three Tuns Hotel. The Red House (near the station) also puts on good bands.
Cinemas
they only show the 18th century films you know the ones in black and white
its rubbish it has one screen
the ritz very crap. my boyfriends surround sound is louder. but they have good seats though n a new floor.
the ritz is like a portible tv
HAHAHA the Ritz! thats a joke
Wot that portable tv and video at the town end.
You call that a cinema!!!!!
The Ritz is in the process of transforming itself from utter throwback fleapit to utter throwback fleapit with a nice sound system. The films shown are fairly recent (gone are the days when they showed Crocodile Dundee back to back for six weeks), but i challenge anyone over 3 feet tall to sit there for a whole show. Seating that uncomfortable is probably banned by the Geneva Convention.
A great tradional local cinema - well worth supporting, even features double 'courting' seats upstairs near the back. Films tend to be mainstream though.
The Ritz now has Dolby Surround Sound. No need to go to the Multiplexes at Teesside Park, or Clifton Moor. Plus it's a lot cheaper 'cos it's run by volunteers for the community... not just to make profit. (volunteers always wanted)
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
