Record Shops

  • its gotta be acorn small shop by far the best selection of stuff you wouldnt normaly find in hmv or more commercial shops yeovils full of goths and grungers hey if they wanna look like that well all I can say is it doesnt float my boat muppets
  • acorn records is probably the best independent shop around for miles they do loads of obscure music too and vinal
  • Acorn, as far as dnb goes, not bad, got some quality tunes from there. Chopper on white label for 3.99 - thank you very much
  • Acorn, defintely. It's cheaper than HMV and has a better selection. You can also buy your gig tickets in there if you want to.
  • HMV is a must go!
  • Mash Records in Axminster, down Silver Street. Sells all kinds of music, very good independant record shop.
  • acorn but still wack 4 vinyl as it has very limited selection or "we can get it in a week" lol.
  • Acorn records is brilliant - doesn't stock as much vinyl as it used to but it still way better than all the chains
  • new HMV!
  • acorn. i buy my vinyl from dere. good shit drum n base to mix and make heavy. long for garage tunes as they av nun!
  • acorn ACORN acorn. If they dont have it they'll get it. Local company too.
  • Acorn records is the best!
  • acorn records, pretty good 4 a bargain, also virgin records
  • gone potty has got some good chill out cd`s and they are in the sale at the moment
  • Acorn records by the bus station!
  • Acorn, by the BusStation sells a lot of older music, as well as recent stuff: if you're looking for something thats alternative, or hard to get hold of, try here.
  • Acorn Records - helpful staff, wide range of stuff on the shelf and the ability to order the most obscure CDs you can think of!
  • Acorn, it rocks - ok so it's no empire records but it sure beats V.Shop - you are forced to use the computers to find your CD's at least in acorn you can just pick what you want off of the shelf, pay for it and be on your way.
  • Acorn Records, Chris is a miserable s**t but sometimes they get good tunes in.
  • acorn records.... sell just about everything and if they dont theyl get it 4 u.
  • Acorn Records, I guess, the selections not great though.
  • Acorn Music, Glovers Walk, Top Notch place for all tunes!!!
  • ACORN. glovers walk. Great selection of rock and alternative. also has classics. so it's great for everyone. IT KICKS VSHOPS ASS!!!!
  • No good for vinyl. Acorn is now Compilation C.D heaven for those of you who are sheep. REAL DJs USE VINYL AND 1210s! Try Replay and Hard To Find if you are a wax fanatic. P.S - The mixing by 'top' djs on mix C.Ds is mostly done by sound engineers in a studio. REAL DJs CUT IT LIVE!!!
  • Acorn- still cold and stony!
  • The best record shop has 2 b VShop. You can listen 2 any of the cds u want and u can use the internet
  • V. Shop! Get to listen to all the music b4 u buy.... if u want to!
  • There aren't any in Yeovil - Acorn Records is OK but just sells Drum & Bass and Hard House - perfect for scabby Yeovilians (which there are a lot of!)
  • Acorn Records, V-shop - wish there were more record shops...
  • Ha Ha Records Has shut.
  • not many good uns. acorn records is probable the most inderpendent
  • buy of the net or acorns, fuck the large companies.
  • Acorn Records, Glovers Walk. Amazing choice of the stuff you thought you could only get a at specialist record fairs. And they're not stupidly expensive.
  • ACORN
  • Acorn records glovers walk.
  • Acorn Records, Glovers Walk (Chris will always try and help if he knows what your talking about, the best selection but they don't do much vinyl anymore), Ha Ha Records (crap dance specialist catering for the Yeovil car park crew), Our Price, Woolies, Smiths.

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • dukes for hardcore drum and bass and hip hop on fridays thursdays and saturdays nice birds shit music free flowing drugs not my thing but hey whatever your into also if you like a fight get down there some nights it makes brixton riots look tame
  • Dukes for thursday and saturday nights, every1 loves a bit of cheese haha! The beach gets pretty rammed thurs friday and saturday nights, Dont even leave home if it aint a weekend, its dead. EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!
  • lol, in yeovil! pendulum was in dukes the other night, and klashnekoff, so id probably say there!
  • The Beach Cafe bar is probably yeovil smartest venue! the former alice springs venue has been completely gutted and refurbished! I wont say anything else... just come n see for ureself! DJ's every thursday, friday and saturday from 9pm!
  • NEW BAR OPENING AT THE FORMER ALICE SPRINGS SITE, Modern fun and contemporary Style Cafe Bar for the discerning and stylish customer ............. watch this space!
  • There is really no point going to a club in yeovil coz they just play hardcore dance shite. If u want some decent alternative stuff go to bristol
  • Looks like u need an up-date! Dukes, became the core, which became the lounge is now...DUKES! Absolutely chocca on Saturdays! Banging tunes and loadsa people, can't say they've got better looking though! Better than Le shite-hole (Jardin)! Do people really like the smell in there?!
  • bars, clubs and pubs...well genraly all social places in yeovil are a load of tosh.I suggest Bournmouth for any decent clubbing venues-some good little bars too.
  • le jardin is ok for chicken nex, multi arena raves are back up and running in shepton mallet oh yeah core is now 4 toffs. grey po-pon anyone la de da
  • Studios nightclub used to be cool - apparently it is being turned into retirement flats now though!
  • The Core is now the Lounge - same place ut with slippery wooden floors. Le Jardin is virtually deserted now. Shaggy Rock is the best place to go - tuesdays all in for a tenner! thats all the food and booze you can handle! Large queue at opening time tho, so may as well go to Stars Lane for a few beers first and watch the queues disappear
  • as soon as they start drum and bass nights we're be laughing until then stick to pubs-globe and alex do the job
  • Just a word of warning, i recently went back to good ol Yeovil for me best mates birthday, we did all the pubs as usual then off to Le Jardin (cause Core is having a re-vamp & an insider informs me its gonna be pucker!!) well new security management apparently can't do their job properaly hence the need to have photo ID no matter what your age!! Now i am in my early 20's and had travelled 200 miles to go on a Jolly with me mate, not being a driver and never needing ID i don't carry PHOTO ID! The nice (and yes that is sarcasim) lady manager couldn't give a toss hence we spent the night in the pubs with all the other non-photo ID carriers of all ages, but the atmosphere was now lacking so an ealy night soon became a reality. My point is, there was no public notice to inform people to bring ID and the manageress was rude & couldn't really answer why they can't trust or rely on their security to identify & not allow "young patrons" in, SO IF YOUR OUT IN YEOVIL ANYONE AGED BETWEEN 18-101, TAKE PHOTO ID and make your own judgements about the security staff!!
  • Woods wine bar is sweet...
  • Dukes - used to be marvelous, now though, has to be Chicagos, girls...
  • le jardin how cramped they need to sort it out and wots happened to the core full of fucking junkies sort it out in it
  • 6 months ago i would have said Gardens without a doubt bit since that its got really really bad in terms of the music they play there - it went through a stage of trying to be Cream or something. However, the last few saturdays the DJ seemed to have finally realised that the reason no-one was dancing was coz they didnt like it so have started adding that charty cheese back in - thank god. Chicago Rock is a wicked place to go so long as you dont have issues with the slightly older generation having a good time aswell. One thing you wont see is little children running around the place trying to act 18 like you would in gardens/core.
  • Thurs night at the core is ok, but they play the same music again over and over again! And everyone leaves early! (its open till 2am!) Fri night at le jardin is wicked-gets very packed, but still have great nights in there!
  • Okay then the Core was my first time clubbin and I absolutley hated it! to many youngens (Im 18 by the way!) who couldnt handle their drink, and couldnt distinguish between the floor an the actuall toilet. Real nasty place but then I went to Gardens for new years eve 2003 and had a whale of a time. Kick-ass peeps, not to many posers but sometimes rather expensive drinks. However they do often have some really good promotions now in terms of entry fee's and drink prices.
  • Some of ya may think Gardens aka Le Jardin is pretty shit but me and my mates always have a great laugh there. Fair enough the music isn't the sort I'd usually buy, but it's feel good music and good to dance to. Thursday night is £10 entrance and free drinks all night!
  • ON ALL ACCOUMTS DONT EVA GO TO THE CORE!!! its fulla goddamn one-pint-wonder youngens who cant handle any drink above WKD to save their lives. Garrunted youll have waz all ova the bog floor by about 10ish. Gardens is way betta, more frendlier peeps who are great ta talk to when alchoholically intoxicated!
  • Go to the core if you want to see people dance like they have done more speed than keanu reeves, then wait until they notice you, get paranoid and decide to start a fight with you. Gardens however is a lot more mellow, cheesy music, skimpy clothing and overpriced drinks. It's rubbish - i go every week.
  • The bestest club in Yeovil has to be Le Jardin it's completely pant's though, they play cheesy music, have a miserable wanker DJ who won't do requests, have popcorn parties and it's full of really drunk people! But it's great fun! and you know your just gonna love it! Open 9pm-2am Tue,Thur,Fri and Sat From £3-£6entry depends on what day you go?
  • dukes gardens theyre not very good though.go 2 the labour club or liberal club and they have gigs all the time
  • Le jardin is nice now, The Core's good, they do a students night on Thursdays 4 16yr olds + which is good 4 those who aren't old enough!
  • I would urge anyone not to go to the core as you are most likely to get your head kicked in by 2 foot scaby little bouncers who have no intelligance. Yeovil is a metropolis for social paracites and street urchins who prosper in the art of picalo playing/bloody carnies! If you want a free dog ask the many beggers who live within that area. I f**cking hate Yeovil
  • N/A There are no clubs in South Somerset, none worth going to, only Bournmounth or Bristol, if you want a good venue, even in the 21st century you still have to travel in South Somerset and West Dorset, MAD!!!! Je Jardin is full of OAP Dee Jays, like sad Steve Carperter who died years ago!!! and yet they still have him. The Core is naff, Madisons is no more thank god, however the old owner of the Gardens has bought it, he was a skin flint and run the Gardens into the ground and then kept digging!!! God knows what Madisons will be like when he re-opens it! NITE LIFE< SOME LARGE COMPANY, PLEASE HELP YEOVIL!!! SOS!!!
  • the core nigtclub good place to get beaten up in
  • Not 1 club has more than 1 floor in Yeovil...need I say more? OK the word CHEESEY springs to mind!
  • dukes-or is it the core now-great for the navy guys from yeovilton looking for a quick shag!and Gardens-the best night spot in the south!!!
  • Well heres to all you dim people Dukes is now THE CORE!!! Gardens is now Le Jardin And Studios is no more!
  • Why do you wanna go to clubs anyway? full of teenie bopper pot heads who can't control a few pints.
  • Only accessable if you are uunder 19. GORILLA DOORMEN ALERT!!!
  • by the way dukes is now called The Core and the Gardens is Le Jardin, and yes there are a few tossers in them but there is loads of great friendly people if you take time to talk to them, buy them a drink, and if you want sleep with them
  • Go to ALice Springs! Its a fantastic location for a friday nite, especially if u want some hot totty!!!
  • The Core (aka Dukes) is alright, loadsa matlos, as my mate will tell u...
  • Check out Globetrotters bar (open till 1am) if you want proper dance music, especially when a guy called Tom is playing - don't know his surname but plays some great funky tunes! IN fact, too good for Yeovil but there you go! Ignore the clubs unless you want to queue for an hour, dance with loads of fat lasses with no clothes on, then be sick and finally get into a fight - great!
  • The last time I went to a top club in Yobvil the DJ was playing Agadoo and the "trendy" crowd were loving it.....
  • The clubs in Yeovil and complete shite. Le Jardin is full of kids that can't handle there drink. I fill old when I go in there and I am only 25 tears old. The music is complete wank for example Steps and other cheesy bollocks. Oh... and Dukes is full of complete Yeovil 'no brained' tossers.
  • Went up Globetrotters to meet my friends once - no-one turned up. I thought I had been stitched up, but then I realised they had all got plastered before 10pm.
  • gardens is shit, duke's is a lot better. studio's isn't open any more. my advice is stay in one of the late night pubs like globetrotters. hole in the wall isn't as good as it used to be, and that was years ago.
  • all shit, best stay at home if you are looking for a good club, you can always spot the navy (walk in large groups and are instant wankers after 3 pints!)
  • Gardens it is now called Le Jardin- 500-600 approx with a well up for it crowd mostly 18- 30 lots of navy boys midweek!! Decor is very classy Art Decco, Great DJ,s Friday and Saturday's . Cost about £3 to £5 (9-2am) But turn up early cos its allways heaving. Hang out at Alice Springs pub B4.
  • The Gardens is now Le Jardin, and suprisingly has a more tastful decor, although unsuprisingly the dancefloor has remained the same sixe ie tiny! You can change the decorations, but you can't change the people - it's still the same old Gardens!!
  • Studios on a Saturday night
  • The "Gardens" got burnt down recently . Were all waiting to see what happens! Update people - update!
  • Well, if we are talking about Yeovil here then really you have two choices right? - The Gardens or Dukes! Mind you, due to the recent fire at The Gardens, Dukes as you can imagine is pretty packed at the moment but there has been news lately that The Gardens may be re-built soon under a new name - watch this space!
  • GARDENS (WHICH SOON TO BE RENAMED), DUKES,
  • cheeper just to join the boxing club and its probably safer.
  • The Gardens, that sacred place where yeovil comes alive on a Tuesday, friday, and saturday evening. It has been and is likened to a meat market, to which this is a little unfair in description. A semi-friendly atmosphere where you need to get very drunk to enjoy yourself. Beware if you are too far gone you may end up with a woman old enough to be your mum. Great times are there to be had. Enjoy Yourself. Also check out Dukes on a saturday if you are feeling brave, and Studios on a friday and saturday if you are young. Pete. M Previous resident of yeovil for 12years

Live Music Venues

  • pubs like fliks if you like metal and goth shit sometimes snooker club dukes for djs also labor club slammin vinyl at shepton mallet once a year half hours drive but well worth it if your into that sort of stuff
  • yeovil ski lodge flicks music bar quiksilver inn
  • Flicks in Yeovil-very good bands, mostly younger people, a lot of under 18s-gets pretty crazy in there but nice atmosphere. Take ID. Also the Ski Lodge, same management as flicks, slightly bigger, has a balcony above the stage which is good. Excellent bands.
  • UUUUmmmmmm yeah i went to flicks, and yeah there was a fat bird dressed as a nun and sum really thin guy dressed as a really thin girl, but hey i liked it.
  • i had the experience of 'moshing', the other night in flicks bar in yeovil.this , so it seems is a regular friday night event.the majority of people there being under 18 emo-goths with a low alcohol tolerance and a bad ear for music.dont go there unless creepy kids from yeovil college and rancid sreming-pretending to be music is your thang...
  • Bath and west Slammin vinyl the closest thing to a superclub in somerset.
  • music scene and Yeovil dont really go in the same sentance, unless no is in there too!
  • Alex Bar Brasserie Cafe on South Western Terrace - Every Sunday night is a live Music night at alex with bands coming from all over the place to play, Orchis and The Relatives to name but 2...
  • labour club,alice springs,THE CORE, FLICKS (lush)
  • Chicago Rock is cheese, but there is a tribute night of everything from the Chillis to Michael Jackson. Just get pissed up and have a laugh. 10 quid all you can drink nights too.
  • Best music venue in Yeovil without doubt is The new Alex Bar Brasserie Cafe Sunday nights live acoustic sets from new and established bands.
  • www.humanfly.co.uk These guys put on some great weekly gigs.
  • go 2 alice on a tues like 13th Howards Alias rock!
  • ALEX, (ie the old Alexander Pub on South western Terrace) now has live bands every Sunday night. Its free to get in and the beers not all that expensive. They also now have 'Sex and the City' nights on a Friday when you can watch the telly and get 2-4-1 cocktails.
  • Alice Springs seem to put on some local bands and it seems to be good for fighting the many signs of ageing - many of the customers don't appear to have hit puberty yet!
  • Surprisingly enough we do have some talent in yeovil. Go to acorn records and look on the door to find out when and where the local bands are playing - some of these guys ar pretty good so check 'em out.
  • liberal and labour clubs.
  • The clubs; Le Jardin, The Core. Flicks is a nice bar, with a club atmosphere, it gets packed though. ALice Springs is OK, but it a bit strange (upside down signs and stuff).
  • None worth talking about, all shocking!!!
  • SKI LODGE!!!!!!!!!! the only place for some good, hard live music.
  • Chicago Rock if you don't mind the buffonns on the door! (DJ a bit iffy though)
  • now the labour club is the main venue, where all the bands play, including such as bands as lostprophets, an up and coming nu-metal band
  • Again, Globetrotters for cool music. If you want mainstream go to a club or better still, listen to your radio for free, switch your lights on and off and have it right off! I'd choose the second option.
  • King's arm does live now and again
  • Many, although not enough, of the town centre pubs now have regular gigs. If any landlords read this - you should all be putting live music on.
  • the king arms.... great
  • The Kings apparently isn't allowed bands anymore. The Snooker Club's great if u like the same 6 bands and until they ban us from there as well
  • Reckleford Snooker Club has gigs on some weekends and there's the Kings Arms which has a band playing most saturday nights.
  • The Quicksilver Mall pub is the place for local bands, or why not try the 'Gardens' nightclub for some quality ABBA, Bucks Fizz etc. cover bands (if that takes your fancy)

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Yeovil. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Yeovil.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
