Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • In our dreams! I suppose the Cross Keys is most likely to have the juke box turned on.
  • JJ's is a restaurant now. There is no dance venue in Bassett
  • A club called JJ's(used to be venus,charlies...)where you are guaranteed to get in and where you can dance to crap chart music or something the DJ just found on an Ibiza collection from the early 90's
  • JJ's
  • JJ's (Used to be Venus)!!! Must be the classyist club on the planet. By day It is a humble Chinese restuarant by night it transforms into a dazzling club. Top of the range! Excellent music! Beer's not too flat and if you are lucky you'll get a little nudge in the jaw by one of the patrons on the way out. Must say the bar staff are very pleasant people. They even cahnged the sticky carpet recently (Apparently it had been ther for at least 10 years maybe longer! Go To JJ's! It's great.

Live Music Venues

  • The pubs often have live music. Watch the blackboards. Also check with Brian Taylor Music shop, who is the local box office and can tell you what's coming up.
  • Often there are live bands in the local pubs (look at the blackboards and A4 posters in the windows)
  • Beaufort Arms, Station Road - Live Music Every Friday Night. Jam Nite Every Tuesday from 7.30pm. Karaoke most Sundays from 7.30pm
  • The Rockit Dolls are back! Keep an eye on www.rockit-dolls.co.uk for updates.
  • My previous entry on the WB band scene omitted: OPA (formed as the Lads in 1984, now called Three Cock Shirt - 19 years and still no gigs), The Ginger Peaches (Jack Klugman For President? could only be better than Bush), Battlemetalments, The Lunch, Amphetamine Drag and Modesty Blaise (whose drummer now sits on the stool for King Prawn). And from the various ashes of these (and the previous mentioned groups), we now have Two Sick Monkeys.
  • THE BAND ROOM MUSIC REHEARSAL AND RECORDING STUDIO NEAR MARLBOROUGH WILTSHIRE TELEPHONE 07855590280 FOR DETAILS
  • The Angel is a very good pub for music if you like dance music. Youngish crowd (18-30), some attractive girls. Very loud so you need to shout to be heard.
  • Beaufort Arms ocassionally has bands as does the Red Lion
  • Not so much to do with venues - more to do with the burgeoning WB music scene, which possibly peaked between 1988 and 1992, spearheaded by Cut Throat Razor (Dave Makepeace, RIP) - the only band to appear every year at the much missed Town Gardens - and taking in such giants as the Rockit Dolls (kings of the chip shop poster campaign), Cupid Stunt, KGB, and the longest running band in WB's history, the Acoustic Junkies.
  • The Cross Keys has a band most weeks or karaoke but if you are a music lover then avoid these nights and stay indoors.
  • The Town Local, Station Road - Jazz.

Cinemas

  • We have no cinema, but again the Beaufort Brewery Arts Centre project hopes to provide one in the not too distant future.
  • Maybe we should campaign for a cinema in Bassett. With global warming we could have a drive in down by the canal.
  • Nearest cinemas are UGC in West Swindon and Cineworld in Greenbridge
  • None. Nearest - West Swindon.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Wootton Bassett. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Wootton Bassett.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
