Favourite Building
This just has to be Thornbury Castle, just simply because!
Thornbury Castle is a very impressive building. Although never finished, it was once quite important (some King or Prince was killed there or something. Actually, I doubt he was killed at the Castle but in the Royal George for looking at another customer). The Castle was never finished but now acts as a very exclusive restaurant and as a hotel for fat Americans.
Demolish It Now Building
Tesco - do the architects who desighn these crappy little boxes have no imagination! Also the coucil offices which has a masonic insignia outside one of the buildings.
The building most in need of flattening is the whole town. Thorbury has the appearance of an idylic, quaint, tranquil little town. It is however full of drunken yobs who have nothing else to do, as stated by a previous person here. There are many pubs, all of which are 'clicky' and the general young population visit the pubs, get very drunk and fight - their idea of fun!
Give Thornbury a wide birth if you are at all respectable and value your health...
THe Royal George. However, that might mean its customers are released into the community so maybe not.
The Best Things
Glourius countryside. Whoever said it was boring obviously has no imagination or would like it to be MOntycarlo. St Arildas at Oldbury has a very dramatic setting on its hill and the ountryside is full of fantastic architecture - but hey maybe thats a bit too intellectual for some people!
Thinking about how things used to be in the past and how much simpler they were, but were they? The whole place looks smaller now some how, never look back
Mikes travel - friendliest bus service around
Mikes travel - friendly coach service to Gloucester
The best thing that I can remember about Thornbury is the Cast Iron pump thing on the 'Plain'(I live in Manningtree Essex now, but grew up in Thornbury).
The Mumtaz Curry house, the Knot of Rope and Shelly's Cafe
The Worst Things
As an outsider moved from Bristol it is hard to get to know anyone aged less than 60!
Greasy fish and chips that are served on a regular basis in the chip shop, such a shame.
People that mill about in the streets just getting in your way when you are trying to shop, but then, they can be found in any town in England.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
