Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains
CHARITY SHOPS- thats all there is
Dreadful selection - there is Mackays if you are over 90!
Oxfam, The British Heart Foundation, The Shaw Tust. Says it all really. Scabs!
Oh, yeah and the stuck-in-a-timewarp Worthingtons (unfortinately not the brewery) and The Post Office, it's still the 1950s according to them. Incidently (don't think Rob mentioned this) the shop front of Worthingtons was used in the classic Two Ronnies sketch "The Worm that Turned", and it was while in Thornbury that Ronnie Barker got the idea for Open All Hours when he visited Riddifords (and not some lad di da shop up North that's just closed down, despite what some newspapers have been saying).
I heartily recommend Thornbury's wide array of charity shops. They have everything the discerning bargain hunter (or, if you're more like me - junk-buyer!) could wish for and more.
The basic choice is Mass Market, poor quality gear such as Mackays in St Mary's centre. Otherwise there are numourous charity shops!
Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)
Art festival and esitedford once a year
Bibelot in St Mary's Street has loads of new age type stuff.
Oxfam is excellent - they do an excellent line in josticks too!
what about Busy Beas the new Art and Crafts shop opposite the barrel? I am she, the girl who owns it and i need more support. Ask if you want something you think i could get. Everybody is welcome!!!!!
And Ive got a space upstairs for workshops, exhibitions and functions.
Lots of gift and craft shops. Bibliot (St Mary's Centre, near Safeway) sells exotic things. Heritage (High Street) sells the kind of thing your Mum would like for her birthday.
Magazine and Comic Shops
No specific shops. Plenty of newsagents for mass market publications.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
