Food
Sarahs dairy is cool
Dominos are good but quite expensive!! So pizza king! Or Kebab kitchen down bath road!!
Polden Virtual Shopping Mall on www.polden.com
Shop securely from recognised UK companies
KFC - near cornhill and mcdonalds - near sainsbury!
There's a fairly new Chicken & Pizza place in Eastover, and we have a Domino's Pizza next to Wimpy now.
Charcoal Grill takaway in St. Mary's Street, Deniz (Kebabs) in St. John's Street, and we now have Crystal Kebabs in Eastover. This is the only town that you can stagger from Pub to Take-away.
the admirld (you can tell I come from bridgy from the spelling can't you) Blake yummy, the chippy of course not the man himself.
macdonalds!
admiral blake
the dragon palace in eastover restaurant and free delivery take away. absolute bargain
Do people still queue up to get their mits on some tasty KFC after kicking out time????
Blake fish bar is still the best, and the only one to do scollops.
Moghul on St John Street deserves a mention, the food is good, the service is good and they soon cotton on to a new regular and what their feeding needs are.
You've just got to try Attilio's, which is part of the Watergate Hotel. Excellent Italian food coupled with Scottish hospitality. What could possibly be better?
Lots of dodgy takeaways - make all their profit on a saturday night, where crowds of people are actually drunk enough to want to buy the food. Avoid all these takeaways with your life!
On the positive side, there are a couple of good chippies - the Dolphin Fish Bar being one of them. Also, the Admiral's landing does pretty good food.
Dolphin Fish Bar on Westonzoyland Road is the best for traditional chip shop food
Bridgwater is the mecca of fast food. Every other
restaurant in Bridgwater is an Indian or some Asian mix.
However, saying that, Notun Moyna and The TAste of India are really nice, so apparently is the other Indian.
Vivaldis in the High Street really is nice by anybodies standards, but avoid the Chinese in Broadway- just WHAT is that odd looking meat? And avoid Top Kebabs as we saw the assistant wiping her nose on her uniform on several occasions.
You can get really nice DELIVERY kebabs here, too.
The Old Vicarage Hotel + Restaurant. Good food and I think it's the only upmarket place in Bridgy!
Durleigh Farm Foods deliver food to you during your lunch break. They're very good and not too expensive. The van is driven by a girl called Charlotte Ellicott who is a great laugh. They also do buffets and stuff it your'e having a party.
When it comes to post clubbing food it has to be KFC, though Admiral Blake Chippy is the best in the world.
The one Balti place is very good, although good reasturants don't last in Bridgwater. 'A Taste of India' is well regarded locally.
Er, there's a McDonalds, and a Wimpey.
People in Bridgwater are too stooooopid to know how to prepare nice food but the Chinese take-away on West Street is OK.
There's one good Chinese takeaway, off Rhode Lane. It's called Ruby's, and although they sometimes get your order mixed up, the food is always great!!
Pubs
Bridgwater Arms- gr8 staff, gr8 atmosphere, massive tv, really NICE place!
Galleries- pre club bar, where all the young uns go
Remedies- popular with the older generation, still get a queue on a sat nite!
Mansion house!! Cheap as hell!!
bridgwater has LOADZ of pubs but there one im most common with which is The British Flag which is on chilton street
admeralds landing is great to be honest I can't think of another that makes me smile.
maltshovel inn
The River Parrett Inn on salmon parade does the cheapest pints in town!! lovely friendly atmosphere, tasty pub lunches, warm homely surroundings, gets a crackin party atmosphere on weekend evenings.
Very limited amount of pubs and very limited people over the age of 18 go in them, well aprt from the OAP's. Everywhere you turn you see a relative.
Some nice pubs, especially the fountain, the lime kiln and annies bar if you like your ale.
Holts Bar consistently fulll of narrow minded bastatards
Minors? - in Bridgwater? - drinking? - Perish the thought!
the bristol and exeter inn has got the longest hours and best cider in town
There are some good pubs in Bridgy, Two of our favourites are the Lime Kilm with the friendly Landlord George, and a nice atmosphere.
Also worth a visit if you like real ale is The Fountain, which avoids any noisy youngsters but is still friendly, even if it doesen't have a pool table.
The squib Bridgies freindliest beer shop. Trev and Jayne alway happy and bright no matter the time day or night!
the green dragon i feel is not given the credit its due. wouldnt recomend it to people who dont like dogs but its got a nice picture of a lady who looks like a scottish widow on the fag machine or at least it did.
The town centre pubs are all in league with each other to keep prices high for maximum profits. On the upside, the Admiral's Landing by the docks is a great pub - one of the few decent places in the area - not too bad on the wallet, often is showing MTV, and has 3 pool tables. All the people with sense drink here.
Galeries and remedies are fairly good as is admirals landing !!!
Annies Bar for nearly authentic Irish feel very cheap food good Irish coffees - avoid ridya nights as it is sing around the piano night
Avoid Bristol & Exeter in st Johns st. This is indiscribable. Also to be avoided is the Rebels Retreat. Holts is the best the town can offer !
There's a new one 'The Gallery' it's apparantly quite good.
Everyone in Bridgy does a big pub crawl before ending up in Toffs or Palace nightclub. Always starts in The Great Escape and includes many other such as Holts, Rock Garden, Marketplace. Always totally packed and a great laugh as long as you stay out of fights and don't laugh at women in inappropriate clothing.
Admirals Landing. Only Good pub in ten mile radius.
There all shit full of big headed dickheads and fat old tarts trying to pull.
But of course there was the Lions Club in the early 70's. had a great pinball machine. Many's the time we got so many specials up it was free for the rest of the week. We also got busted there alot.
The "Admiral's Landing" is good for a quiet night out with friends. Its got three pool tables, its spacious with loads of seating, its got tasteful decor, and a friendly environment. Gets a bit crowded on a Saturday night, but then so do all Bridgwater pubs. Drinks prices a little over average, but this is made up for by being able to get your full pint right across the room without spilling a drop. Unlike a lot of Bridgy pubs the music doesn't pound at you continuously. It's set at a level where you can hear it AND hold a perfectly normal conversation. Definately worth a visit before heading off for Toff's.
Bridgwater once had the largest number of pubs per population and area in England but many have now closed.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
cherrys! opposite great escape, nxt 2 mias. do gr8 sandwiches & a nice upstairs bit
Cherrys is the cheapest and best probably!! All others have an inch of grease on the walls!!
Can't beat 'Spoons hot chocolate with cream
if you dont have a smokers cough when you go in to a bridgwater cafe you will by the time you leave
bridgwater was when I left a starbucks free zone I hope it still is. The flying teapot in the indoor market offers the cheapest greasyfryup in town and free entertainment from the local loons.
cherries
cyber cafe eastover....opposite woolies
eastgate cafe on eastover, best fried brekkie in town.
There is a real gap in the market for a decent cafe/bar place in the town, I reckon theres enough reasonably bohemian folk (at least 15, maybe 20) to make somthing like that work - just think, what are the admirals clientel doing during the day?? they could be eating in your swish 50's-style (or whatever) diner type place, thats what!. If someone doesn't open one soon, I'll do it myself.
The Nutmeg tree is pretty good and quite posh for Bridgwater.
