Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • new look, dorothy perkins, new touch, select, burton, next, peacocks (?!), bwise,
  • Bootleggers, new look and dorothy perkins are only half decent ones left!!
  • Polden Virtual Shopping Mall on www.polden.com Shop securely from recognised UK companies
  • they have a new look near blake statue
  • Bonkers on eastover 01278 459696 has the best fancy dress clothes and stuff ever
  • I misunderstand how the second hand shops in bridgwater keep full of stock as there are more of them than regular clothes shops. Hustlas is good for skatewear. there is a place down the avenue also bootleggers which is good for shoes. otherwise it's all high street stores.
  • new look new touch select is crap dorothy perkins next
  • too many to list, posh frocks is a one off
  • dragons lair, indoor shopping centre, eastover
  • wot clothes shops? Bridgwater seem to have nothing but cheap junk shops which sell nearly new(!)rubbish. What sort of name is 'FAIR SHOUT'(a very high class clothing store) Now closed down(why does that surprise me!)I suppose that with the Fair and all??! (or as the locals pronounce it-FUR!
  • bootleggers in the avenue is the top dog for all your needs.
  • Bootleggers (hidden in The Avenue) is the only place in town to get decent stuff! Trust me.
  • Oxfam, burtons, next, plenty of other charity shops, but importantly no ?River island Envy etc.
  • New Look is surprisingly good for Bridgwater, but again has been upstaged by Taunton's bigger, better, gigantic new branch. The only thing is that, is it me or does NL Bridgwater sell SKIMPIER clothes in LARGER sizes than Taunton, and why are there always so many fat tarts and slags hanging around??????? New Touch is one of those shops which will close down in a few months time for breaking copyright laws and slave labour in deprived countries. The clothes are a total rip-off of other shops' designs, and very cheap, but still worth a look. They also sell nondescript grannies' clothes like those in Posh Frocks and the few other clothes shops in Bridgie. The only other clothes shop worth mentioning is Dotty Ps seeing as Marks & Sparks closed down, and so did Etam through lack of custom. Much cannot be said for MK1, and the only other places are Edinburgh Woolen Mill and B-Wise. Otherwise, it's all charity shops that sell old clothes for cheap 50-yr-olds.
  • There aint hardly n e there but newlook wud have 2 b the best oh yeah there is another cool one but 4got wot its called
  • You can only buy decent clothes here if: a) You are over 60 (try Posh Frocks) b) You wish to buy something that costs less than £2 and doesn't need to last a wash; or c) You like your garments second hand. In which case, my friend, Bridgwater is your spiritual home!!!
  • Hell of a lot of charity shops but I did get a very nice fake fur coat for £4 so who is compaining!
  • Lofts-------the best place
  • In the avenue Boot Leggers sells cool jeans and other stuff like Kangol wallets
  • Bridgwater had the largest Oxfam in the world, but it closed down.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • The Arts Centre, the fabric shop near Strings 'n' Things. Actually the whole of that street is worth a look. It is behind Angel Place. They have a dolls shop, too.
  • Lanes only decent art shop really! art centre aint bad!!
  • Quilting Classes from Colonial Quilting Patch Tel: 01278 685923
  • There's a place on High Street which sells basic sewing & knitting materials, and right next door, in Cornhill Market, there are some stalls selling similar stuff. The Sewing Station on Wye Avenue, off Westonzoyland Road, is a specialist Patchwork & Quilting shop.
  • Lanes in George Street (Down the side of WHSmiths') - bit expensive for some things though. You can buy some stuff in Wilkinsons
  • plenty of pavement artists using all kinds of different materials from urine to vomit and even blood in many varied and interesting patterns highlited with chewing gum and seagull droppings
  • the arts centre is in fact the oldest in britain and a listed building. It used to be a great place to see a band play but their nextdoor neighber didn't like the noise, something you think she would have considered buying a house next to an arts centre and so this only happens on rare occasion, as it did a few years ago when she took a holidy.
  • place on the corner of the avenue
  • the arts centre chandos street
  • the indoor shopping centre on eastover has just about everything arty, crafty, trendy and twee!!!
  • The carnival !!!
  • Surprisingly quite good Drama workshops at the Quay Gym, nr. Admirals Landing pub.
  • Arts, Crafts and such, known in Bridgwater as clubbing each other to a pulp!

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • you'd probably have to head for taunton or bristol.
  • Correction: it is Weil's not Viles and in any case it is spread by rats not cider! Yes they might just pee in it but it is a good disinfectant anyway. Great site. Keep up the good work.
  • Bookworm. St. John Street. It's no Forbidden Planet, but has a range of titles.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Bridgwater. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Bridgwater.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
