Favourite Building
St Andrew's Church. The Surgery in Station Road actually won some architecture prize I believe, and is quite funky for 1960s design. I also like The Bird in Hand, Cromwell Cottage and Chairmakers in the High Street, and "Miss Neighbour's old house" but don't ask me what it's called.
Cement Works - An ugly hole to any new residents or passers by. But you can see it from 20 miles away and as far as I'm concerned it's our 'eiffel tower' and it's been there longer than I have.
Demolish It Now Building
The Bird in Hand, because it is an eye sore now it has been boarded up and it degrades the village.
The horrid housing estate they built on the spinney (off Springfield Gardens), and the rifle club, even if my dad did help build it. It's ugly.
The cement works
Most people would say 'see above'. However it should be the social club - small town personified.
The Best Things
therez nothing there
The people
It's a lovely place to grow up - we used to be able to go off into the hills all day with no one worrying about us because it was so safe. You get to know the countryside well, there are lots of long walks and things to see, if you like the outdoors. You don't even get wet when it rains if you're in the woods, and the views are wonderful.
My mates - none of us live there anymore (I wonder why)
The Worst Things
everyting
The other people
Once you hit the age where walking around the outskirts of the village for a bet gets boring, there's bugger all to do. Cycling to Thame is a pain (10 mins going - downhill, 60 coming back.... or is that my memory?) Nowhere to buy clothes, records, see films, swim if you're over 11 (the primary school not believing that you're only 10...), go to school except by bus, get a job unless you're supremely lucky... learning to drive is the way out.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
