Food
There aren't really any places to eat in arbroath that have a menu that changes more than every 5 years or that dont microwave their food. not the cheapest but for good prices and fabulous food The Chance Inn at inverkeillor has a public bar and a large resaurant which serves freshly prepared high quality food with a menu which changes every 4 to 6 weeks and I've never left the place feeling unsatisfied, I usually feel like i'm about to burst!!
277, wee cafe next to grace pattersons
mcdonalds, but unless you have a car and are willing to pay £4 in petrol to get there....
mandarin used 2 be gid, think its something else noo, my da splashed oot on ameal for my birthday once there
The whole town is cheap for food. It just depends how much hair you want in your doner and chips.
The Golden Haddock - http://www.goldenhaddock.co.uk/
worked there for four years, good food. the hot dogs are the best, hmm or chips and gravy
fish and chip shops geta pint of milk and soem ketchup and ur good to go a great meal for about 5-6 quid
McD 99 menu
Dinos chippie / westport chip shop lunch time menu yea they will sell thos eprices even to out of schoolers.
dukes alltough it is a smokers hang out
Dinos does a dam fine fish and chips now. Fattys for cold burgers.
the bervie chipper or the golden haddock 4 if ya fancy a a chippie, try a legendary arbroath smokie(u even get smokie ice cream in Marco's chipie now...yuk), but n' ben jst outside arbroath is FANTASTIC,theres a gr8 new resteraunt near the harbour tht used 2 b called uncle bucks but cant remb its new name..begins wit a S i fink, expensiv tho..
MACDONALS ITS ALL RIGHT IF YOU ARE PRECNENT AND HAVE THE MUNCHIES
Pie bobs,Delights,Safeways 24 hour,McDonalds
mcdonalds, wimpy etc etc
There is the porty, where u can get some bit of cheap ass cow slapped on a hot dish and called a sizzler. Only costs about £4 or £5.
There is also the brewhouse which is really good, a lot of seafish, but a bit pricey.
Just around from the cliffs is the cliffburn Hotel which is also a tasty place to eat(famous for its steak pie), but a dont think the towns folk realize it still does food cause its never packed.
The cliffburn Hotel is a must. The chef makes superb grub.
again auntie lynnie's macaroni oh yea and 123
LYNNE,S MACARONI AT THAT GREAT CAFE IN THE ABBEYGATE
fatties , serve up shit in a plastic tray , eat before it gets warm...
Please note to all people - McDonalds can be found in a lot of places around the world ( including a tiny island called Gozo ) so it isn't worth putting. People will hardly flock to a town for a Big Mac.
Marcos on the shore and in the town....yuk!!! and the chinky up at Timmergreens....I'm sure I got food poisoning from a spring roll I had there...they put that tinned ham in the spring rolls....bleear....only at Timmergreens.
Brewhouse - definitely worth a visit and a good no smoking section.
The restaurant at the Cliffburn Hotel does great food.
Smithie's in the Westport is good for a light lunch or a snack.
Peppo's chip shop by the harbour
The Corn Echange, no music, no smoking at the bar but cheap drink till late, always busy, great atmosphere, and Im not just saying that cause I work there...the foods gid too!
the £40 a burger Wimpy and a McDonalds about 40 miles away from the town.Plenty of chip shop and curry places though
nope all shit oh no wait McDonalds ye thats it the only great place which is about 40 mile away from anyones house.
Well done to kismet for the brilliant kebabs.
peppos chip shop for a fine fish supper!
MacDonalds
Smithies Deli
any chippies, (one of the many in arbroath)
we finally got a mcdonalds so now all us Arbroath wanks can eat to our hearts content and grow up to be fat lazy sons of bitchs just like our American cousins.
Arbroath is situated in a fantastic area but it never seems to cash in on this. In order to survive and prosper the town's businesses need to pull in people from around the Angus area and not just from far-flung exotic places like Bellevue Gardens. I've always enjoyed a great lunch at the Thai/Chinese restaurant (can't remember the new name. It used to be the Mandarin Palace)and the Brewhouse does a cracking pub lunch. The Portcullis is my local when I'm home with my folks, and we go there for a good family chow-down. I've yet to try a better tasting steak pie anywhere on the planet.
Great deep fried mushrooms at Marcos on harbour. Liked the free pizza last summer, nice touch for visitors and skint tourists !!
Fatty's
A wimpy. remember them, I think BK took over them and Arbroath has one of the
few remaining ones. They have a meal that is like a hot dog and is called a
bender, ewwww!
GOLDEN HADDOCK CHIPPIE. Best in town. Find it at the dangerpoint.
McDonalds. What else can we say.
Jasmin Palace is brilliant as is Cafe Indiana. There is also the Brewhouse which serves traditional Arbroath food.
Peppo's at the Harbour (if it's still there) has got to be the most sexual fish and chip shop in the world. It sells the best fish served with loads of chips and I have never had anything like it anywhere else!
SMOKIES - they speak for themselves. One of the great PR jobs of all time. If only people knew what those fisherman did to those fish!
A couple of chinese takeaways where I can guarantee you'll pay premium prices for below average food
A nice resturant called The Trewithen. And a Cafe called the Tawney Owl. Jocks Cafe and a Fish & Chip shop.
The Golden Cockerel at Brothock Bridge does a mean curry and a tangy deep fried shredded beef !!
Pubs
Fishys,staish,newgate,nash
if you want action, go into the centre, if you want a quiet pint got outside, stay away from the slum end of town, the rams heid is quiet and cheap, the corner is boring but you wont get your head kicked in, the viewfield is friendly but sometimes attracts gadge. lochlands is good but clique.
Spoons, and give the Ship inn a try! theres 2 sides to it, ones filld with mid-old agers with dodgy perms and bad karaoke singers (avoid!!) but the other side is smaller, has a jukebox with sum decent music, pool table, is cosy, and the bar staff rock!
Madisons was excellent, Tom the perfect landlord went on to Chaplins is it still there? RIP Madisons
Witherspoons is always a laugh once the marines are back from exercise. Hang around for ten minutes and watch one of them collapse and or piss himself. Great entertainment.
wetherspoons is cheap and everyone goes there, apart from that, most pubs are empty and expensive, but if you must, all stars or decs
The Station Bar Westport where you can talk about the rigs or the rigs or the rigs or any offshore subject.
weatherspoons!! dead cheap....but no music:(
eh... let's see.... The west port bar and the fishermans through the back if you know what I mean.
Spoons, beer is shite but £1.25 for a pint... well!
oDEN FOR ALL THE TINKY SLAGS CAUSE ITS FREE TO GET IN
the viewfield the only pub you can go to dressed like an absolute tramp and fit in!
spoons guid food cheap booze on you go
the abbey old smelling pub with a moody owner that goes mental if you touch the pull table am suprised he doesnt go mental when you plce the balls on the table!lol
Smugglers Tavern In Arbroath is good - cheap for there drinks. Worth going in for one or two before you start off! LIve bands at the weekend but dont think young folk would like it - its a laugh!! Try it > there is nice badmaids and the owner is quite cute!
fishermans
fishies rules the roost for the FRESHED FACED crowd
Wetherspoons rules especially that rad blonde one who works there!!!!
The busiest pubs are usually Declaration and Wetherspoons, slight problem being that spoons is devoid of atmosphere and Declaration has become quite the place to be if you are a marine or a tart and like to think you're better than everyone else, doorstaff are cute though!Wrights(Madisons in a past life) can be good but with spoons and declaration on the go it's getting emptier by the week, can't beat the prize karaoke on a sun though!Bernard De Lintons has been refurbished and is waiting for someone to take it over so that could be alright when it opens, depending on the staff!
Always welcoming to the lesser fortunate people of the town,be they lacking in cash, clothes or looks, theres the line bout Bernie again.
breakers!!! wow i gotta love that place, also the viewf is pretty good when the karaoke is on. emm theres more, but they really r too dire too mention. oh! i forgot spoons!! ohh that bad boy serves cheap drink
The skate got to be the best, nothin like a gid auld banter we john ayr. The Cliffburn Hotel bar if your lookin for a fight we some auld timer shams ie. Dave Spink, Bruno, Kraut, Stuart Cadger, Sean Martin etc.
weatherspoons good atmosphere always a friendly face and someone you know but most importantly CHEAP drink what more do you need but a boogy
FOA A GOOD CHEAP NIGHT(STUDENTS) I RECOMMEND A PUB CRAWL AROUND ALL THE OLD PUBS ESPECIALLY ONES WITH KAREOKE SUCH AS THE SHIP INN.
The Fishermans 5 or 6 years ago was extremely cool, everyone sitting on the floor in the back as there wasn't enough room for all the grungy/punki kids in there, aaah the good old days, if only one could remember them particularly well! Alcoholism as a way of life! :-)
Em The station bar
the fishermans is an excellent pub to go and have a gid auld jig with the many sounds on the fabulous juke-box. nae body bothers you and you can enjoy a really gid pint and have a laugh with your mates.
Lots of them in Arbroath. Take your pick.
I have my quiet Local and I can't say where it is cos I don't want it to be filled with Gadgies........the National....oh dear....less said the better.
weather spoons
Bernard de Lintons, Kirk Square
The fishies and Weatherspoons are the favourites
Wetherspoons...the corn exchange. It was what the toon needed, a decent place to go and chill or get pished if u want. much cheepness as well!
Well gotta say if you want cheap booze go to Weatherspoons but theres no music, pool table or entertainment so it aint a PUB.Want dingy go to the Abbey Inn Fran and Tams friendly nature and good service will cheer you right up oh and pool is only 20p and the jukebox is only wait for it..............10p
ROCK ON THE ABBEY INNSTARTED GOING THERE IN SECOND YEAR.GREAT FOR UNDER 17s NO ID REQUIRED
Rock on the Abbey in at Ponderlaw.been drinking there since i was 14 so it rocks
Wetherspoons has just opened in Arbroath now - great pub, cheap booze and Tracy from "Ballys" works there now!!
the best pub has to be the west port bar on the west port.
Lochlands best local in town.Corn Exchange newest and cheapest.
The fishermans? decide for yorself......
The Viewfield. alway something happening there
The Rams Heid is ok i suppose
The corner has a great atmosphere except when OAP's die while sipping their pint
Okay well I've been once for a total of 24hrs and only went to one pub and it was the one at the caravan site. It was okay though and no trouble getting served even though i'm 17. Bit boring though - I was there on Karaoke night!!
The pubs are all shite , most are complete dives or they are full of coffin-dodgers
all because the olympia closed
FISHERMANS, FISHERMANS, FISHERMANS ... ok, so it's the dingiest craphole around but ... shit, I can't think of something good to say. They serve a crap pint. I dunno. I'm there. Um ...
West Port Bar is excellent on a Wednesday night. Usually a live band. Me brother's band play there once a month (PEPPERPOT) and they iz jamming and stuff!
I believe Arbroath has more pubs per population than any other city in the UK.
No joke. Let me put it this way, you will have no trouble finding one, and most in the centre of town are
friendly.
There is also the Commercial Inn, MUCH better than the Ship Inn. Nicer barstaff, better and cheaper beer AND you are allowed to wear football colours! unlike the Ship!
Fave subject! Hot spots - Madisons, delany's, liberties, chaplins, WPB,
Devito's etc etc. Ship dick's suck! One to avoid! Visit granny Graeme!
Loads of buffty's there.
Madisons, Viewfield, The Brew House and many more great pubs in Arbroath
West Port Bar on a Wednesday night is good, Madisons,
Loads of 'em 'cause there is nothing else to do in the town! Visitors to the town are almost assured of the complimentary 'doing' by the locals (easily spotted by the inbreeding birth defects) if recognised as out-of-towners
The west Port Bar has to get a mention here. On a Wednesday night you can
always find a local up and coming band - always worth a look.
The Royal Oak = Good food & drink The royal Talbot = OK The Kings Arms = Poor The Globe = Small The Monmouth = Full of kid's The Earl of Chatham =Dire
Cafes and Coffee Shops
seven
Smithies deli, actual real coffee, yes real stuff from beans n everything and not the dusty instant stuff. Serves food all day and they do alot of takeaway food too, without a chip in sight! Open Monday to Friday 9.30am till 4.30pm and Saturdays 9.30am to 4pm
there are some but they shouldnt really have licenses to serve food.
Arbroath is full of these. It's where all the coffin dodgers congregate when they're not trying to slip off their mortal coil.

Calum's in Commercial Street is great and one of the few coffee shops where prams and buggies can get in without a step or hassle but why does it close so early on?
Smithies does great soups as well as wonderful coffee. It's been converted from an old butcher's shop, and they've done a great job with the decor.
Citizens Advice Bureau

Smithies Deli, the best in Arbroath. Take away sandwiches, cappachino's, espresso's or sit in and admire the fine waitresses on a saturday afternoon
Dukes Cafe, run of the mill place
The grape vine. nice place with a very cool talking christmas tree (you can tell i was a deprived child cant you.)
Yuo people are kidding right, a good cup of coffee in Arbroath?
and who the hell put macdonalds on that list, its barely a restaurant let alone a cafe
McDonalds has just been built in Arbroath so everyone goes there to eat. A lot of youngsters hang out there on Friday nights now. That is the latest craze.
But Marco's (A fish and shop) there are 2 of these and they rock!
Lots. A particularly nice one is in a lovely B&B off the main street.
Can't remember the name though, just keep walking up the high street and
you will see it. There is also a tea shop in market square.
Callum's Tea Room is well worth a visit. There's also Naylors, Scotties and Blairdene.
Naylors off Commerce Street does lovely coffee and coffee and fresh cream choux buns. Definitely worth a visit.
