• Pete Shelley lived off Chapman Street
• FYI: Myra Hindley lived in Gorton on Bannock Street with her Gran. She did not attend school in Spurley Hey. . . she attended Ryder Brow Secondary Modern. Ian Brady lived in Longsight with his mother and stepfather until he moved in with Myra and her gran in the earyl 1960's.
• Myra hindly went to the local school now called cedar mount but it used to be spurley hey.
• John Nettles (Bergerac)
• The Buzzcocks were just off Chapman st Aiden J Harvey
• Jack from Coronation St, and someone from the Bee Gees apparently. Nicky Butt.
• Nicky Butt (Manchester United and England) is from Gorton and so is John Thaw (Inspector Morse). I swear to you that's true but you would never tell from his accent.
• That guy from the Monkees who used to live near Tanyard Brow
• brian statham was born in gorton.born 1930 died 2000 aged 69. lancashire and england bowler.

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
