Record Shops

  • HMV probs
  • mvc,hmv,musiczone, many more...........
  • HMV is a good shop but plays crap music
  • mvc is alright get some cds from there for the club market records isnt bad for vynals
  • hmv
  • can sometimes pick up some randomly cool stuff in southports many charity shop bargain bins.
  • hmv
  • The 2 main music shops are MVC which has a crap choice and is pretty average. HMV which has a great choice and is well organized.
  • Market records! MVC is cool too.
  • market records, market street
  • Market Records, go in and say CHHIIEEFF!!! to the long haired blonde guy (chris), oh HMV is coming to southport soon.
  • music zone or andys records in the arcade
  • Vinyl shop near southport college. Market records, MVC, Our Price, Music Zone
  • Music Zone
  • Zoomba has more Hip Hop than ever ! plus breakbeat, techno, broken beats and more - check www.zoombarecords.co.uk
  • andys has gone....sad but true........the Vera Lynne brigade just wont spend their bloody pensions. Market records keeps the faith and there is some golden vynil to be found.
  • Green
  • market records chief!!!
  • zoomba, Andy's Records sells dance music from about 2 years back.
  • zumba is the best place 2 get tape-packs.
  • good old market records on market street!
  • they are all tiny!!!!111
  • er andys?
  • Andy's Records and Music Zone are aight.
  • MVC on Eastbank Street is cheap and has a good selection of CDs and DVDs. Beware the under a fiver bargains though, more Pat Boone and dodgy old punk than you could shake a stick at.
  • What is the deal with the Kurt Cobain wannabe who owns Market Records (the skanky second hand music shop)?
  • MVC is great for fair prices. Tesco has fab prices for records!!
  • Market Records
  • music zone all chart cs's under a tenna !
  • market records, full of old lps etc
  • Amnezia records on princess street is one of the best (when it is open) but the owner has a passion for tatoos and fish with wind
  • M.V.C music store, near cambridge walks. This placee is up to date stoking all the latest albulms as well as videos and dvd's. Another advantage to this store is that it's not the kind of place you would bump into granny looking a copy of a Cliff Richard LP. (Nuff said).
  • The biggest record shop in Southport has a grand total of around 200 CDs. This includes such musical gems as Steps, Spice Girls and any other bratty teen pap that anyone in their right mind would go to great lengths to avoid. Richard Branson has more enterprise in the clippings of his little toe nail than can be found in this city.
  • MVC, andys records, our price.
  • Andys Records
  • Our Price - London Street
  • Zoomba Records - specialist dance music shop Market Records - rarities and vinyl bargains galore
  • For the cheap second-hand alternative try Market records, in the market!
  • Andys Records

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • well ive read all the comments and when did everyone write about southport, 1990??? First of all now Friday nights in Southport are a load of rubbish, so are mondays. Saturdays and Thursdays are the nights to be out and about. We normally start the night of in sugar or the new bar Velvet, real swanky place right next to Zebra Square. From Sugar onto Room 38, 2 second walk normally no queue or entrance fee so walk in, cheap drinks all round. Then if its a Thursday the only place to go is Bar Non, this is student night and it will be full of first and second year KGV students, me being a recently ex KGV student find i fit in perfectly! Most shots in this place cost a pound which suits everyone fine, does get a little rammed though as they pack everyone in on thursdays. Saturday, we leave Bar Non out, its dead, and hop foot it to Zebra Square, might pop into Republik for a cheeky polish vodka, only place in Southport that does it! That normally hits the spot and we all wobble on over to Zebra Square where we're normally on the guest list and never have to pay, if your unfortunate enough not to be under the guest list its £6 entrance fee, very expensive but worth it as this is normally the place where everyone whos anyone ends up. If your an attractive girl you'll probably find an attractive lad. This age range in this club on saturdays is over 21's which basically means if your over 18 you'll fit in well! downfall of this club drinks arent cheap and you may get hit on by a few old pervy men. Positive points of this club the clientele are fit, the bar staff are friendly and its open till 6am and serves till then!
  • i dont know many theres artcenter,elem n stuff........
  • as a nightclub owner in southport have taken on board some of comments roberta lees is definately a place for lads to cop off with girls and we have always been aware of safety its an honour that this site has always given me good reviews i can tell u i get slagged off a lot for being a drag act in southport but we are trying to make a difference the nightlife seems to be slowly getting better and will take a while to get busy again as the papers are constantly saying how violent it is. I say stop all the cheap drinks surely brits cant just be famous for binge drinking and bring back more live entertainment not just discos. Going out shouldnt just be about getting hammered the live entertainment scene seems to be getting better and the nightlife needs promoting properly
  • havana, bakers, maloneys, the coronet, waverleys are the best
  • obviously flava's rock night on thursday and fubar on friday night. Roberta Lee's showbar, good place for men to pull - full of women on hen nights.
  • suga-decent music, atmosphere, prices. bar non-amazin when its not cramped but still v busy. maloneys is boss for drinks nd music lyk 9to5 etc old bank was good but empty now
  • There is a few clubs in Southport like club Code and Zebra Square where you can find model Jordan and a few other celebs.
  • Fubar sometimes gets hardcore dj's in (Hixxy was in there a while back).
  • southport is a pile of wank it has like 2 decent clubs which arnt even that good i went 1nce n sum fuking ugly 16 yr old girl put her hand down me pants n gave me a lob on but that doesnt rele matter does it???16 year old girls reked in fuzzy peach no thank you n by the was i dnt like zebra square its a shit hole
  • Once Kinsway, once Astoria, once Bliss now closed down! Club Code Fridays and Satdays full of pretty boys mainly from the clever college (KGV). Plays crapy pop songs and attemps on the odd occaison dance music, but fails to go off. Infinity played good dance music but was taken over mainly by scousers and under 12's. Old bank is a good starter for the nite with loadz of fine totty. If you are in to wigan pier/scousehouse the old G-Spot near waverleys is good for bouncy tunes but club is quite small. Zebra Square (snobby) has mainly taken all of club codes customers supposidly being the new place to club in soutport? It is also open till 4am.
  • bliss club code maloneys republik
  • For Hip Hop check Friday nights at Flava - 4 turntables and guest drummers and other musicians. A cool night on a par with Manchester.
  • CODE BABY! GET YA LACOSTES ON NOW U SCALLIES
  • Infinitys is the best place foe cheesy scouse house and fanny on saturday, not been out for a while on friday, but there is £10 in and free bar in infinity and bliss, infinity is meant to be the busiest.
  • i remember when i was very young and going to that remarkably young clientelle astoria! some memories there!
  • ok, update, Evolution (used to be colusseum)-for all those under age folk. Code is cool and swanky-bit small though. Beach is gone. Bliss needs a cleanup. Then there are still a varity of bars.
  • Suga is a gud new 'un
  • Old Bank, Bar Non, Republik, Infinity, Code, Bliss, Maloney's are all phat as fcuk.
  • YEHHHHHHHHHHHHH BLISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSss
  • Follies and Sandbaggers were good rock clubs, both shut now though. Anywhere round the Lord Street area should still be good for a weekend fight or stabbing though, if the local paper's weekly litany of town centre carnage is to be believed.
  • Bar Non - Thursday - RnB - Great atmosphere - excellent! (Oh and they do have an 'ID required' policy on the door THANK THE LORD!)
  • Not sure how long ago this report is written but the club status is continually changing in Southport. The Bliss: everyone goes in underage, and then when they are old enough and realise how many young people are there they leave. Flava: chilled by day, funky by night. Well worth a visit. The Coronation pub: worth a try for the jugs (one for the lads there!) Waverleys: CHEESE CHEESE and more CHEESE. If you like that kinda thing Glasshouse: Does ok. Karoke stars(!) out on Thursdays Carlton: Trying to do the rock thing in Southport, so if you like metal, give this place some support. Its a dying breed. Malonies: The "90210" crew come out on Saturdays and cram the place. Expensive cocktails but worth the 2-4-1 on Sundays. Bar Non: this is where you'll find the 10inches of make up and Ben shermans. Bakers: this is where you'll find the 8 inches of make up and Ben shermans who didn't get in Bar Non. The Beach: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. STAY AWAY!! Republik: Middle of the road bar, sometimes worth it, even better as it's next door to Turkish delight (ask Eric for a confused look, don't ask me just do it!) Club Code: Expensive London prices in a shit Southport location. Nice try.
  • The Colaseum no longer exists as a club.
  • The clubs in Southport are far from decent. G-Spot is full of under 16s, and Bliss always plays poncy music that you can't dance to, thats if you can get into the place, with the number of bouncers on the door, its like trying to get into Buckingham palace. New club opening where 2 Brewers used to be, finally, maybe this will be the new club that Southport needs to renew its respect in the clubbing world!
  • Bliss, The Old Bank, Glasshouse, West End, Waverleys, Bar Non, Republik, Maloneys
  • 1 night for the girls start at the beach ( the bar not the Raeil beach!) for way cheep drinks offers all week round eg. 3,4,1. n a good age n music range then off to bar non to pick up those classy designer guys then its malonies for a bit of a fancy coctail and on to republick for a few more classy guys then to finish the night off at bliss with a good dancing spree n hay your that drunk by then that you dont even notice all the pervy guys n girls dressed up in school uniforms
  • g-spot
  • They usually change their name after 3 cases of assault. 'The Old Bank',Lord Street is promising though - really good sound system which is banging on a Friday. Strangely enough, it used to be a Natwest bank before it turned into a trendy wine bar.
  • Bliss although cheesy a pretty good nite out but always full of the same old faces we need a few new people. but the best had to be the collusium it was a top nite out and i hope it reopens very soon!!
  • Avoid Bliss! its a dump! my boyfriend got beat up by the bouncers for no reason and we had to spend the next day in hospital.
  • I guess i'm a bit biased(my ex boyfriend is bar supervsior at Bliss). That place is o.k, as long as you don't mind abba tracks played on a loop downstairs, and trance shite with drunken teeny boppers pole dancing (more like drunken swaying with style)upstairs. Still when you get in for free on the guest like me (perk of his job!)then i guess you can't complain. Still your not lucky to be dating someone who works there, then i guess i'd give it a miss.
  • the Astoria is now The Bliss
  • All pathetic attempts at nightlife. Great if you want to shag a 16 year old that looks 60.
  • dont bother go up2 the krazy house in liverpool+ stay at a mates house
  • If you like good 'cheesy' fun go to the Astoria, especially if you also like 16 and 17 year old girls,( like I do)!!!!
  • The Colleseum , The Sands
  • Nothing worth mentioning. Southport needs some variety, too many 'towny' type places.
  • The Carzbar/Baroque has just got a fantasic new paint job, apparently done by a Southport student. It looks like phycadelic cow prints.
  • Kingsway had a face lift, now called Astoria, stil much the same but with carpet & a bit of a cage! Most happy teenagers ie 15+ spend friday night there! Glasshouse -new trendy bar, down an ally off Lord St, open till 2am, 'beautiful peoples' hangout, cheap on thursday nights. Malonies, much better now, girls will fancy the barmen who enjoy showing off their cocktail shaking skills! Men go for the girls!
  • None - they're all rubbish!! Stick to the many excellent late bars
  • You could teeny bop in Wetherspoons but you might upset the management
  • The Baroque/Cazbar night club, over 21's allededly, Not to good on Fridays but Saturdays are getting better, with regular events happening every 2 weeks e.g. the full monty live show, and other guest D.Js e.g. Kendo Nagaski, Phil Day and Pete Pinnington (Rock FM)etc, Tuesdays are jumping, usually a lock out by 10:30pm good 2 for 1 offers on before 10:00pm with special guest Rock Fm DJ Simon Ross, full of good-looking 20 year old totty...

Live Music Venues

  • artscenter, southport theater, n elem agen.....
  • Fox and goose - cable street.
  • Southpoty theatre has some bands. It has the local bands and the tribute bands. And on a few rare occasions some well known ones.
  • The music you find in Southport is awful, wether it's polluting the bandstand or taking up vauable space in Fubar, it's generally awful. Except for one rather entertaining band called Chief.
  • Fubar on waverley street
  • The Rocknights that are still going on at FUBAR in Southport have a new website address. Instead of www.d1e.co.uk its www.d1e.biz Also, they don't do them at Casablancas at the moment, and Mr Bs is now Esco Bar
  • Sometimes there's live bands at Club Code on a Wednesday night. We need more music venues!!
  • Through the D1E Project (www.D1E.co.uk) bands can be seen at Club Code, Fubar, MrB's, and Casablancas - if you're in a band contact them to get a gig.
  • Arts Center
  • Ahh for the music of the Floral Hall in it's heavy metal days. Does anything replace it now?
  • Arts center has good blues and R&B gigs......theatre has some ,but not enough decent gigs.
  • THE BANDSTAND ON SUNDAYS - CLASSICAL LOVE MAKING
  • Band night, suttons art center alchemy
  • arts centre
  • The Band Stand. Thats ABOUT IT. Shite music n all!
  • Very, very ocassionally a good band turns up at Southport Theatre by accident, but it's more likely to be old-time dancing or The Chuckle Brothers. Nearest decent live venues are in Liverpool.
  • Fox and Goose pub for mosher music
  • Rock nights, but dont encourage them
  • KGV college often has gigs
  • In summer there is usually a talent show (talent my arse!)on Lord street. Before you get too excited, i should warn you that this event normally consists of some loser singing Simon and Garfuncal to an appeciative audience of Grannies (half of which always appear to be dead in their deck chairs, but actully just sleeping).
  • art centre: local band night, most fri. £2 a ticket, mainly a hang out for punkz+metal head, grungrz etc.
  • arts centre, lords st, does a monthly band night, when local bands get their chance to perform, some are quite good, rock orientated
  • WAVERLEYS BAR ON WEST STREET
  • Neil Sedaka and Daniel O'Donnell are playing the Floral Hall this year.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Southport. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Southport.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
