Favourite Building

• the ex army building from the war that is half way to reighton and burried in tne sand how ever it now serves as a very good toilet
• Has to be the flats at 17 West Avenue, particuarly when I lived there! Better neighbours you could not wish for. They know who they are .
• 9 mitford street (noddfa), is the party capital of filey now belle vue has lost its late night liecence, theres still vomiting, fighting, passing out and all the old belle vue faves. tickets are available at the door.Probably the next on the oap's hit list.
• St Oswalds Church Because many tight, dure, Filey fishermen are burried there.
• My favourite building is the San-Marco resaurant, it used to be one of those cheapo shops, but they have done brilliant things whith it. Lovely marble and Italian things every where.
• Lager Daves fish ind chippie in Queen Street
• Bus station! helps me escape the madness of it all
• the ambulance station,never know when your gonna need it.
• The original Deepdene gone but not forgotten. The Masonic Hall. The Crescent and the Filey Museum which is well worth a visit at least once a year.
• All them houses up the top of West Road and on Rowan Avenue where the bathroom is over the yard. A really bizarre design. Stopped you getting wet having a fag outside. That is until they emptied the bathtub.
• BAKERS SNACK BAR WHAT A MULTITUDE OF LIFES MISFITS IN HABIT THE PLACE , THE AWESOME JOHN HEATONS EVEN BEEN IN
• The new Deepdene / The white house on the front-leave it alone you greedy bastards!

Demolish It Now Building

• THE CROWN BELLE VUE THE STAR

• This one is easy, it has to be The Crown, preferably when it's full of punters but just Josie would suffice.
• The star pub with the battle axe landlady still inside. shes an old hag from west yorkshire who unleashes her fury on the youth of the town
• Queen Street. Because many tight, dure, Filey fishermen live there.

• The Deepdene, it's just a place for people who don't care about the town to come and stay for one week of the year.

• The whole Grange Avenue as the scrubbers live there mainly the Tucks and the Bushbys.

• That well maintained,looked after,in absolute exellent condition Train station.......Well they have been patching it up with double sided sticky tape and elastic bands now for years. Come On get a new one!

• That horrible grey block of old people's flats on the street behind the Crescent. The Conservative Club.

• Not so much a demolish it now building as much as a demolish it soon building. Father Ted is altering the Tophouse without planning permision, by the time he's finished it will need demolishing
• The building which should be flattened is the old police station in the main street. It is totally out of character with the rest of the buildings. There is never anyone in when wanted in an emergency and the building is far too big for the purpose that it is used for. A modern smaller replacement could be built adjacent the bus station.. in that position it would serve the town better and would be in the ideal position to watch for incomers and outgoers. The space left on the main street could be used for car parking or a small shopping complex as Filey is void of both.

The Best Things

• BONHOMMES MUSIC AND QUIZ NIGHTS
• the views
• The Coble Landing, Brian's karoke singing in The Top House (the guy has definately got a future, and a very funny man). Seeing how pissed off the locals get when hoardes of tourists invade their favourite pub.
• USA CHICKEN is pretty good, although a passport and visa check wouldnt go a miss on the staff, there more everytime you go in.
• THE GRAPES WHEN AL & LYNN WAS THERE
• A really good calm sea. Makes so many tight, dure, Filey fishermen leave Filey. (Trouble is, it's only for a short time and they usually come back).
• As a pinky, soft, shandy-drinking single mum southerner visiting last summer, me and the kids thought the locals, specially the bloke in the chippy in Queen Street, were really welcoming and friendly - might even come back next year.
• It is situated in a place where you have access to lots of local walks and National walks.
• The beach. The waves crashing against the sea wall in the winter. The fish & chip shops (scraps!)
• The CODGERS play here a lot
• karen butterfield,the i want to know everything about everyone,moved to scarborough.
• underage sex! and lots of tourists to annoy
• Been responible for putting a big fucking tree in deep dene roof...........it was fucking huge.
• THE BEST THING ABOUT FILEY IS WHERE EVER YOU LIVE YOU ARE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE MAIN ROAD OUT OF THIS GODFORSAKEN TOWN FULL OF INBEEDS

• When the wezzies go home and the camps shut down for winter and the wezzies stay inside cos it is too cold When the coppers ignore you at 3am trying to stagger home after a bevy night out
• Is there any??? Beer is goodin Foords, The Star and Tuns (Cafreys especially) Wife swapping is rife... Fileys speciality!!!!
• The beach is ace. Walk along the tide's edge at low tide at about 1am in the winter, on a clear night with all the stars out, contemplating your existence. Flamborough lighthouse is top 'n all.
• Jack herer, Northern lights,Super skunk,skunk,Black domina,Purple haze,White widow,Blue berry,Lambs bread,Thia sticks,Durban poison,Juicy fruit,Nepalese temple ball,Gold seal,Red seal,Oil,Paki-black,Rocci.
• A very good hardware shop that sells everything one would want and will order or get anything not in stock. Has a modern name 'Star Trading.Co.Uk'is situated on Station Avenue.

• Watching the boats come in and getting hit in the head with a lobster by a friendly fishermanfriend who wants to make the wezzies laugh at your misfortune Also swimming in emperors pool round the back of the brig, cause theres no shit in it, its warm and the wezzies dont know how to get there (No, Im not telling you!)
• Miles of brilliant lonely beaches and the Brigg
• Occasional Hippy visits. :-) Megga beach Spring and Autumn (no wezzies or 'cumfers') Beautiful cliffs (wezzies occasionally fall off 'em) The Dams Bird Sanctury (except when it's cluttered up with wezzie twitchers) The Brigg (wezzies occasionally get caught by the tide, or slip and break a leg) The Edwardian Fest is only once a year and only lasts nine days Police station closes at 5

• THE CROWN BELLE VUE STAR SHOPS
• too many wessies not the holiday makers but the ones who decide to stay and infest the town with their scum
• The amount of small minded, malicious gossiping and petty squabbling that goes on over a pint of beer.
• Filey is a sad backwards town, full of useless inbreads! Anyone who gets stuck there ends up being related to everybody else, and then seems to be under the impression that they own the town. There's no night life or anything else to do for that matter.
• the old people of the town who seem to make it there life dutie to hate anyone young in the town.I wouldnt be supprised if the oap's made it law for knowone in the town to be under 65. That way they could let there dogs shit on the paths, be the first in line for special offers at safeway and not have to worry about any noise after 8.30pm. oh yeah its like that already.
• the awful landlord from the belle vue you know calls himself RAMBO or is it BIMBO

• Someone escaping the explosion.
• Many tight, dure, Filey fishermen returning after a days fishing knowing that thay've earned lots of money to be tight with.

• The people in filey are two faced and hypocritical. I don't think half the slags realise they constantly have their legs clamped open while they accuse those with honest and trusting relationships of 'slagging about'. They aught 2 take a long hard look in the mirror. Terry anns huge chimn!!!
• The Tea Bar on the promenade, the girls that work in there are really cheeky they were being rude about every customer. You won't catch me near there again!!

FILEY IS THE TYPE OF TOWN WHHERE IF YOUR FATHER ISN'T YOUR UNCLE THEN YOU JUST DONT FIR IN, GET THE DRIFT?? OH YES ANOTHER WORSE THING, 1 WORD IS ALL IT TAKES, THE PLEDGERS! • Snides on every corner of every street with no job, no life, just girls many years younger than them.
• All of it. It's just so old and full of Kappa Slappa's!
• Filey people who think that everyone who was not born there comes from West Yorkshire. Not true! Rude Filey people who do not realise that if it wasn't for tourists the town would have died long ago. Filey folk who think people who retire there are snobs. Not true try talking to them and make them welcome. The drug users who frquent the bus station. Vandles who are mainly Filey youth. Local dog owners who blame holiday makers for dog shit. Its there in the winter!! so it must be the locals who do not care about their town.
• The person who wrote the insulting comments below is being extremely hypocritical. Is it any wonder that todays youth has a mistrust of the older generation when they write in to what is primarliy a youths website (you dont see many skateboarders in their 50s)insulting the 'brainless baseball capped' generation. The truth is that there is a lack of things for young people to do in filey. However I suggest that we should take a look at many other areas of the country where it isnt safe to walk around at night. Young people are exactly that.....young. So let them experience life to the full, whats wrong with saying their opinions on a harmless website. I grew up in filey and It was a great place to grow up in. I have now moved away and of all my friends now, the most mature and self sufficient of my friends are from the filey/scarborough area. However,I still get very angry at the older generation who stereotype 'teenagers' as criminal and small minded.Look in the Mercury on Saturday, most weeks there is a story about these 'youth criminals' working to improve the community, rairly is there a story about the older generation doing just that. Or is that you have reached the age that you can just take?
• The amount of obnoxious jumped up little shits who have just left school and think that there the dog's b*!#&*s. Many of which can be found in the star and belle vue on fri and sat.

• The annual return of Filey Fare......I once got lost.
• The retired folk who live on the crescent and they think that they are royalty and above everyone else in FIley Owner occupiers ..whats worng with good old fashioned council housing
• The Village Idiot and his village relatives Parking in Filey ... wezzies own 4 cars each Disabled trucks thingys ... for disabled people to shop in

• Stupid brainless kids, who use the lack of nightlife as an excuse to hang around, smoke dope and look stupid with baseball caps on. Hey, we know there is nothing to do for young people in Filey but there are stupid kids in Fiesta's in London too you know... Appreciate a bit of the environment you ignorant people. As for "Wezzies" I've been in Filey in summer and winter, and have found the people friendly most of the time. There may be an older population here, but they are not all demons - Take the time to talk to a couple of them! Then again, the brainless baseball capped youth of today will probably be the old codger in 40 years time.
• THE EXCESSIVE LOUD NOISE FROM THE GRAPES PUBLIC HOUSE, QUEEN STREET. WHEN THEY HAVE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT ON AT WEEKENDS.
• THE ROADS IN
• The chippies close before the pubs. Dog shit all over the streets. The state of the pitches at Clarence Drive, if it wasnt for Pinball doing the grass & stuff no games at all would be played, GET IT DRAINED!
• Winter (all you need to say really) When the most exciting thing that happens is watching the sea cadets freeze their balls off by going swimming on New Years Day....WHY??????????
• DEEPDENE DEVELOPMENT an eyesore, built for the rich who are never in residence. See how many apartment lights you can see switched during any winters evening.
• Wezzies Cumfers The Ed Fest Marion Wright(chair person Filey Ed Fest and anything else she can get her true blue neb into) Uptight wezzies who retire here, take over the place, join all the commities they can and MOAN!! >:-O Mr. Gobels the dentist. (he hurt my hippy chum) People who wear sports wear People who make their own 'Edwardian' clothes for the Ed Fest (the do yer 'ed in fest...)

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
