The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

The only good thing about Filey is waiting for your mum to move abroad so you can buy her council house , cos you wont have the brains to do it unless she does.
To find out about some of the 'odd' things / people of Filey. Check the The Knowhere Board.
Things Filey people don't like: Anyone not born in Filey. Any one born in Filey. Anyone born in Filey but not living there now. Anyone not born within 3 feet of Queen Street. Anyone with a different name to themselves. Anyone with the same name as themselves but with a different mother. Anyone not related to them. Anyone related to them.
To round it up ANYONE. They're the most xenophobic people on earth.
Things to reminis over about Filey:
While living in Filey for meany years, the one thing I noticed was the fact that the people around me were as tight as a crabs arse with their money and dure enough to stip paint with one glanse.
The tightest and durest being the fishermen! If anyone can prove me wrong, let's hear it.

I have to say, I lived in Filey 'til I was 18, and although it was a pretty and safe place to grow up, there was nothing for teenagers to do. I slag the place off, but don't like other people to. It's very geared-up to pensioners, but when I'm a pensioner, I might want to live there. But I can't imagine living there again until then - I'd go mad!
Wanna fit Tex in somewhere else but he dont fit anywhere.
...Peter Athorn.......
Ideal place for families and young children. Teenagers can get to Scarborough easily by train or taxi. Golden beaches are lovely.
Well i have to say that i have always very much enjoyed my drunken times in Filey. I have always been trated to a wild time thanks to John Whithead and his family who take me and my drunken mates into his house, when we have performed at the Filey Edwardian festival.
Infact if you have a look at this site you will see some pictures of us performing during the festival itself. www.thepierrotters.co.uk
Long may Filey remain wild aswell as lovely.
Gacko The Pierrotters
dont come here unless you are desperate
No one would live here really if they had a choice
All locals here have 2 names ...one the Dss knows them by and the other is what they do on the side that Dss dont know about
A nice man in th Foords knows another nice man who mends cars !!! Mind you ask for anything in the foords and they know someone who can get it .. a bit like the magic genie lamp !!!!!
Filey is basically an elephant's graveyard. People just move there to die. With no life to look forward to, these over-sixties gaze nostalgically backwards. The result of this is that Filey as a town turns its back on progress & it's youth. Anyway, if you ever find yourself with a huge shipment of contraband plastic hips to get off your hands, Filey's your town.
A CERTAIN BARTENDERS BITS
LOCAL GOSSIP/NEWS.
the grapes public house has been refused a public entertainments licence.fed up residents on queen street objected in force, and won the battle to stop the terrible excessive noise from the pub when it had live turns on every weekend.
noisy pubs take note, people power is strong.
What about fish. We all love fish. Fish is what Filey is about. I'm not obsessed really I just love fish.
WHO IS STU D.BAKER? WEVE BOUGHT BOTH HIS ALBUMS AND WE KNOW HE LIVES
IN FILEY,BUT CAN ANYBODY TELL US WHERE?
Forget the Ed Fest and printed tea towels, get yourselves along to the Foords Cricket clubs match against Yorkshire in August, David Byas testimonial I think.
Filey desperatly needs investment in the 10-16 age group. There is NOTHING for 'em to do except hang around the bus station.
The wezzie old codgers who retire here then moan about the kids so the police put in CCTV and hassle 'em.
Something needs to be done about the traffic, you cannot MOVE down the main steet on pension day.
A ban on building any more retirement homes would be a good start. At least 40% of Fileys population is retired and it's upsetting the balance of things.
Boy racers meet at the bus station, every night and drive round the town and drive round the town and drive round the town and.......................
Every year we have an 'Edwardian Festival' for the old farts who can remember that era! (yawn!). All the oldies dress up in their grannies clothes and frighten the tourists away.
All children stay indoors for their own safety, during this week long spectacle.
This is my last update on Filey, lets see if anyone is interested or has ever heard of the place!
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Filey.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Filey.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
