Moseley School is looking amazing since the scaffolding came off.
The Fighting Cocks - handsome.
Loads of Victorian houses which are truly beautiful.
Demolish It Now Building
Kwik-Save. Crap.
Kwik Save, I guess.
The Kwik-save supermarket - an absolute monstrosity.
The Best Things
Moseley is an eclectic and unique suburb of Birmingham. There's always something interesting going on and residents have a genuine affection for the area and interest in what's happening. It's close enough to the city centre to mean that a taxi home isn't TOO much of an extravagance but it's far enough away to still have some green space. Best of all it's full of REAL characters.
Generally good people, superb atmosphere, especially in the summer. Moseley also attracts a superior nutter/drunk - on the whole, far more insane than your run of the mill fruitcake.
Relaxed part of town - very mixed.
Some ace folk.
Moseley is relaxed and bohemian in character - all sorts of people live, work, and play there and they all get on pretty well together. There's a definite sense of community and identity.
Cinephilia - a video rental shop that's truly different. No Blockbuster trash here - every single film is pure quality, from The Seven Samurai to Citizen Kane.
The Worst Things
Smugness of the residents who think it's an interesting place. In reality, it's just a step away from suburban boredom. Most of my neighbours are precious semi-professionals (musicians, teachers, bankers) who are only ever seen getting in and out of their sporty/posh cars. As for the nightlife, it's got pubs, bars, and other drinking establishments, including a decent billiards/pool/snooker club. Not much for the mind, then. So much for its reputation as an artist's enclave.
Spiralling house prices. No book/record shop. Kwik Save (even worse since the Somerfield takeover). The Number One Bus (whose occasional appearances in Moseley bear scant relation to its official timetable).
People who call Moseley "the village". You know who you are.
No bookshop - Moseley could really do with at least one.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
