Food

  • Food in The Crown is generally very good. Only had one poor meal there, but it is rather full of Ruperts and Felicitys from Hampstead. Dont object to them too much but a balance would be good - as long as theyy are polite Im okay with that!
  • Ives tea shop, just a little way past The Swan Hotel is perfect for a really good cuppa and a slab of cake, jsut around the back of the ice-cream parlour.
  • evry one sells good food but the red lion sells the best fish &chips.
  • First Indian restaurant opened 1997 worth trying

Pubs

  • The British Legion club (near Picture Palace) sounds tons duller than it is: their quiz nights are a laugh & you can win free drinks. Seems easy to join & drinks are v. cheap.
  • There are over 10 pubs to choose from in Southwold. I think the Lord Nelson on the sea front is great. The Kings Head has quite a "fresh faced crowd" that hang out in the pool room
  • Red Lion and The East Street Bar and Cafe (The Wine Bar) are the places with most locals - quite a lot of kids in The Wine Bar tho, but its better that than they hang around on the street corners! The Nelson is a good pub, but does attract a large amount of rugger idiots - especially that twat Simon who does the excrable Blyth Bugle - give it up loudmouth! Pier Avenue - God knows what theyve changed the name to now is awful. Tacky decor - this place really is nowhere! Kings Head - bizarre is the best word for this. It really seems a bit of nothing to be honest. So, ed Lion and Nelson are your best bet, and Wine Bar if you know people!
  • harbour inn blackshore the best hangover in southwold harbourthe award winning eyesore, next door to the harbour inn blackshore southwold harbour
  • Lord Nelson definitely the best, though try the Bell at Walberswick also. I think all Southwold pubs are kid friendly, though they don't have child licences.
  • For the Best meals anywhere, try The Crown's bar food. You'll have a job getting a table and must be smart (I saw my first Skyline parked outside here!)
  • 'Southwold Arms' no longer exists. It was closed some time ago. It is now a hostel for hotel staff.
  • The Harbour Inn: there are regularly bands on in this lovely fishing pub. Southwold is the best place!
  • You've under-rated the beer, it is the BEST!!!!!!!!
  • There are so many pubs in this small village, all selling extremely good beer, as there is a big brewery called ADNAMS taking up most of the village. They brew a lot of different beers, and they also deliver all over the country, but in Southwold they deliver to all the pubs by horse and cart which is so nice to see. The best pub is called the Lord Nelson. Has the best landlord and friendlest staff. Nice open fireplace and always good atmoshphere. Beer to definitely try if you ever visit Southwold is BROADSIDE, nicknamed ROADSIDE as that's where you end up after a few pints. The worst pub is the ARMS miserable staff and full of unfriendly people who stare at your every move. Good beer though, and it has a dart board and pool table unlike most of the other pubs in Southwold.
  • Loads - all worth seeing and doing a pub crawl.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • only posh ones
  • Behind the hotel the is a very small but friendly teashop. Avoid if there is a coach trip tho. as it is very small

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Southwold. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Southwold.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
