Cringing Cult of Celebrity (Famous residents and ex-residents.)

  • webber crops up again famous for goin down the firestation hill on his board and taking half his hip off after he cleared the junction _ without his board. AND jamiaqui the soloist stayed in the lorna doone hotel once
  • Adam (Fat Ad) Harris, bin on radio 1 a few times with his mate Chris (Gwindaf) Gibbs. Cant see them leaving some how!!
  • I don't know if he's current or deceased, but for my money, a real 24 carat hero of Porlock is/was Dudley Richards!! I believe he was the half brother of the late Barry White......
  • Does anyone know what became of Eric Saunders ?? Eric was a complete nutter (and a blacksmith for Fred Kent) and he worked at the bottom of Doverhay. Eric was in the Paras, the SAS, the Salvation Army, the Luftwaffe and any other organisation that appeared in the press that day.Eric's modest unassuming manner used to render me in stitches when I listened to his "war stories" in the Castle on a Saturday evening.
  • Surely Dudley Richards of Sparkhayes warrants inclusion in list of Porlock Greats?? I have no idea if he's still with us or not,but a nicer, more gentle man you could never wish to meet. AND.....don't forget Eli Gibbons and the ever kissable George Bloys (or was it Blois??) Sorry George!!
  • Steve spurr (i think) great computer engineer who is cheap !!!!!!! if he can't fix it nobody can
  • Derek Dascombe has to be the most famous within Porlock, he stole my heart completely...
  • David Westcott, famous in his own right for everything he says and does.
  • For the BEST computer engineer in west somerset see Steve c/o the Royal Oak or the Anchor Hotel or even phone on 07968681577 he's good and cheap can solve major and minor probs well recommended by all his customers!!!!!!!!!!
  • Famous Residents: There is a famous poets grave in unusual terraced cemetery. Can't remenber his name and have yet to find him - HELP - WHERE IS IT?
  • Paul Gibb - See letters in the Telegraph, and listen to Terry Wogan for more details.
  • Tim Moore. Played keyboard for top popster Nik Kershaw and recently with the Bee Gees. Apparently he is currently on tour with some french geezer.
  • Porlock will forever be famous because of the (apocryphal?) story about Samuel Coleridge and the 'unfinished' poem Kubla Khan. Coleridge awoke from a laudanum-induced sleep with an urgency and began to write his most famous poem Kubla Khan which everyone knows by: "In stately pleasure domes...etc." After a few verses he was interrupted by 'a visitor from Porlock', and after dispatching this intrusion his train of thought was lost and the poem was left tantilisingly unfinished. "A person from Porlock' is a euphemism for anyone who stands in the way of creativity in others.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Porlock. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Porlock.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
