Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
life has gone downhill since B's aka The attic aka Cheeky's was voted the worst nightclub in the country by FHM 3 years running and the wellie hasnt done a very good job of trying to keep people wanting to go out, by playing ultra crap music charging stupid prices for enrty and drinks and employing bar staff old enough to be our grandparents which is not a pretty sight even when you are completely wasted.
WELLY,Is bent as fock, but everyone goes every saturday as what else is their to do....
There are no proper night clubs in Minehead and probably never will be. The only place to dance is the welly and that is tiny and dead crap, most of the people who work behind the bar are on drugs, the dance floor is tiny and its full of underage kids just looking for a fight!!! other than that there is kareoke night at the queens hall on a sat night whoopy doo. or jaks in butlins (if u can get in) but thats only if your desperate because anyone who lives in mimehead only goes to butlins when they are desperate!!! So i'd say the nearest half decent night out is Taunton(26 miles away!)!
I wouldnt waste time going to any other than the good old ruggers club for a few cheap beverages and great local entertainment!! before heading to the Brit on a sat nite!Enough said!
The Wellington Hotel night spot has now opened and the new resident is DJ Spanky (female dj). (with her mentor brother Independence, as cover). Spanky is a top class dj and her brothers music influences have brought her to a status of "superstar" dj. She likes to drink pints of bitter, play club orientated music and basically have a laugh... Her brother is the pioneer for disco vocal house in the South West. His knowledge of all genres of music is not surpassed by anyone we know. Next gig is the 6th of December and the next one is sometime in january 2004. Long live spanky, lets do a petition for a permanent residency!! Fred in Weston Super Mare
full of suit wearing rugby pricks!
Cheeky's now called Bz is shite! new owners are crap! dont do it!
Well.... there's The Attic, if you are into a dingy shed for clubs. There's Madisons, previously New York, New York, which is about the size of an apple. There's Jaks on Butlins, which is ok if u like cheesy pop bands and the YMCA. The nearest you'll get to a half-decent club/pub in Minehead, is The Welly, which opens till 3 on Friday and Saturdays, and serves a free brekkie at 2 o'clock!
The welly has changed its looks its now hip and funky Barry richards is also planning to open a nightclub round the back of the welly! He is going to own the whole of minehead one day!!! B's is now called The attic still tacky and most of the people that go there are under 18 its like a youth hostel that sells alcohol
It pays to be drunk at nightclubs because mistakes can be blamed on that.
'Jak's' in Butlins is a meat market. You have to either be staff of on holiday there tho to get in with a pass. Its cheesy but good nites had by all.
Tha ATTIC aka CHEEKYS aka BJ's NITESPOT is the only place to find young looking
drinkers and old dad style dancers
No clubs really, if you're in Butlins go to Jaks, its cheesy and small and blaintantly crap, get boozed up, walk around mindlessly and i assure you you'll meet about half of the staff making fools of themselves on the stage. A good laugh if you're in that kinda mood.
Cheeky's is like a youth club who ever wrote that New York New York is a like a youth club they have got it wrong it's the other way around, don't bother going there because it's a load of crap, stay in the welly if you get in there before 10.30 it's free but after that it's £2.50 plus you get a free cooked breakfast afterwards, Cheeky's is a fiver to get in and if you want a crap night that's the best place to go because it doesn't get any better trust me i know.
I would like to say hi to Rory who works in Jumpin Jaks who threw ice down my top on Saturday night(remember me the one with the red top on in Jumpin Jaks)
B's, Saturday nights = a top night out,the music believe me much better nowadays still some dodgy tracks but later on >:O) !! bloody good nights can be had, avoid the much less than full NYNY unless u r past it!
See Rugby Club This is Where it is at
B's or New York, New York
B's for under 16's
NYNY for over 40's
The Horrendous B.J's Nitespot, This is tiny and expensive, New York, New York was kind of good when it opened but now is more like a youth club!
Minehead has two night clubs. One is a over 18's called Cheeky's, the other is over 21's called New York New York.
The York , BLOODY good bands in there mate!
Live Music Venues
The York..
The York House Inn is now open until one'O'clock on Friday & Saturday nights with live music. Don't miss out on Thursday night with a quiz with cash jackpots up to 500 quid. Fun night too with music.
'The hobby horse' on the sea front, got different bands there most weeks.
The York House Inn in the main street is by far the best for live gigs. Bands every Fri and Sat. Good atmosphere, beer and food. Nocharge on the door. Closes at Midnight Thurs/Fri/Sat.
Thursday night quiz with a difference. Good cash prize. Fun night.
Butlin's Once again I'm afraid - again, corny Hi-de-Hi stuff but they do have excellent weekend breaks and do have some top names there once in a while
See above (ie.The York)
Cinemas
one small cinema located on butlins so its closed 1/3 of the year and when its open most of the time its not worth even looking at. odeon in taunton is nearest cinema and its open all year round.
The cinema in Lynton 17 miles from minehead is wicked and is really retro. The other cinema is in bucklins
The only cinema is the one in the opening of the opposite end of butlins and funnily enought they never show the good films you see advertising on the telly its always the ones that you see and think 'Yeah rite that looks crap'!.
The only cinema (on Butlins) plays films no-one in their right mind has heard of, nor will they want to see it, and they'll play it for weeks, maybe months running at a time.
The Odeon in Butlin's, Minehead, is open to the public without having to pay an extra entrance fee. You need to "report" at the East Entrance (at the end of the seafront nr the Golfcourse), but when I've been they don't really bother to check you out.
still haven't got a cinema closest one is Taunton
Odeon in Butlins, can't say I've seen NE others!
butlins.
We haven't got a cinema cause Butlins thought that they would like the exclusive rights to it. You have to have a pass to get on to Butlins and then pay to use the cinema so it would cost a fortune. We have to therefore, travel 3/4 hour to get to the nearets one in Taunton.
The Regal: yes! they support local performance art/ theatre, and yes! they try, bless em' and yes! the cinema was dilapidated, badly painted, and antiquated. The progectionist had Parkinson's, the hallways stank of Piss and the actual cinema smelt of vegetables. Oh, and John "smiley" Welsh's Evil/Pissed Off visage was always a treat. I remember going to see Flash Gordon there as a kid and when I first saw Ming the Merciless, I thought it was our cheery host!
Wish we still had one
In Butlins not for locals
There used to be one just at the front of Butlin's thus enabling the 'Locals' to use it, However, Butlin's in their wisdom decided to put it inside the camp now as the locas never bothered to go there as that would have 'supported' the camp, funny though - now its been taken away, they seem to miss it - Thats Minehead people for you.....
The Regal Theatre is not closed - it has a 410 seat auditorium which hosts amateur and professional theatre and music, and a film club which provides a varied season of top class films. It is run by the MATA Regal Theatre Company, a registered charity, and is very much open for business.
Butlins has now anounced that the cinema they used to deprive the local cinema of trade with (and therefore shut it down) will not be open to the locals UNLESS you buy a day pass which is about a fiver, But you still have to pay to get in the cinema AND have to be off the camp by 8pm. Nearest cinema is now taunton 25 miles away.
The Regal cinema (Now Cloased) was the last one man cinema, it was also the worst. You would sit in the 100 seat empourim diying of hypothermia whil old jonny welch would stand at the back winding the projector. He would also do his own editing of the bits he didnt like so it would wreck the whole bloody film. One last thing it took at least five months for a film to be shown there.
bowling in butlins hotshots is brill great staff
The Odeon, Not sure if its closed now though. This is attached to Butlin's and last I heard was that it closed due to their Butlin's 2000 upgrade
