Favourite Building
Queens Hall Seafront. Should be restored to its former glory as a theater
The West Somerset Railway station
Man, it's gotta be the Carlton Plume of Feathers, a classic example of a run down, gothic pub. Oh yeah, lay off the Regal all of you - many years of underinvestment does not a bad building make
Butlins - What Else?
The Rugby Club
Regal Theatre
butlins
The York, What an excellent Pub!!
The Lido!
Demolish It Now Building
The modern buildings on the seafront that do not match the rest
The Warehouse Shop QuikSave and the Amuzements Arcade next door. I'd say the Regal Cinema, but it should stand as an example to the world, plus too many childhood memories
Are those 30 year-old outhouses still masquerading as classrooms at the upper school? Demolish them now, dammit!
That awful pink Beach Hotel - Change the Colour Please.
Clanville Flats / Cheekys Night Spot
Butlins tent
Sorry, has to be the Regal (overstatement there) Cinema
BUTLINS !!! And Minehead Butlins Is A Bag Of Shite That Need's To Be Tossed In A Big Flaming Pit With All The Other Wankers Who Work There .
Don't Go There Believe Me Im Doing You A Favour . And Im Talking About The
Best Thing In Minehead . Go Outside Butlins And It's Like Something After A World War II Bombing Raid . It's Dead It's Lifeless It's Full Of Boring People And Boring Shops . I Rest My Case .
BUTLINS
The whole lot
Sorry, but it has to be said, The Regal theatre incorporating Kwik Save (says it all really) is an eyesore. it looks pretty dangerous too, hopefully they will run out of funds soon so it will have to waste away into obscurity and be replaced with something of use such as a 7-11
The Council offices
"Butlins" the entire site... everything... and all the COCKNEY WANKERS that go there!!!!
The Best Things
in the winter its cold wet and empty.
Most of the people are warm and wonderful. Woolworths (a winner in any town). Relatively low crime rate. Very clean town.
alex cabs
The superb scenery. The West Somerset Railway
I've been to Butlins in Minehead for the past 5 years every Easter for
a Christian event called Spring Harvest.....it is absolutely amazing fun
and I reccomend it for any Christian.....Minehead may not be the hottest
place to go in the world but its a great week's holiday that shouldn't be
missed.....entertainment, accomodation and staff there are all fab!!
The Beach; ok so both the sand and the sea were a grey brown tinge, but I lived in Porlock for 16 years, and sand was a luxury!
The Wellington Hotel
The Fish and Chip shops
The surrounding hills and other natural beauty
The summer time, when the living is easy
Pool in the Queens. Sweet.
The harbour on a sunny day
There's a second hand bric a bric store on the Avenue near to Ladbrokes...the guy in there is very friendly and won't rip you off
The Western Somerset Railway - Slow but Scenic!
Butlins an Architectural Statement putting Minehead on the Map like the Opera House did for Sydney
daves taxis
The Welly on a Monday night during weekend breaks and the Camp on a Sunday (Payday!!)
butlins
Butlin's. Love it or hate it its there and its there to stay. Full of stuff to do and the staff are pretty friendly too
The Youth Hostel; it's a fun place to stay.
The scenery, North Hill
The Worst Things
in the winter its cold wet and empty.
THE JOURNEY HOME.
The cost of accommodation is extortionate. No direct rail link to Taunton, making the place seem rather cut off from the rest of the world at times.
The nothern twats who stay at Butlins and the druggie criminals who work there, they should all go back up north.Minhead might be poorer without Butlins, but would becme a lot more respectable without the common tacky alcholic northern torist or the scummy criminal druggies who work and theive at Butlins.Alsoo thick sounding tacky tracksuit clad Midlanders seem to like everything tacky in minehead(Butlin workers find them easier to theive from as midlanders tend to be of low intellegence(like everyone up north!))
Mine head is a miserable place full of people who are so inbred looking , that they drag thier knuckles on the floor, they are not very welcoming to tourists either!!(only when they are getting thier money) Butlins is brilliant though and its like entering another town,AND THE PEOPLE THERE ARE NORMAL!!!!!
butlins
The cretins who support Butlins because they have a vested interest and who
claim that without Butlins there would be no Minehead. One day, not too far off,
you wil get the chance to put your claims to the test!
I've been to most places in the UK and I know Minehead is in Somerset so cider is going to be better than your average bitter/lager but I have never ever tasted bitter as bad as that served in the pubs in and around Minehead, pure piss, probably contaminated by the nuclear fallout from the nearby nuclear power stations. We hard a very hard job finding anywhere worthwhile to eat at either, a sad place I'm sorry to say. We aren't going back until its improved 1000%.
Shyte Clothes shops aplenty
Butlins - ignore the bitter posts from obvious employees, the whole joint sucks. It may have put Minehead on the map, but the town has got a lot more going for it then that Shithole.
The lack of decent entertainment, leading most people to delude themselves that Butlins was a great night out.
The winter time, when the wind blows and the rain lashes down and there's not a thing to do
Coffe at the Owls restaurant. Nasty business.
Lara. Mmmmmmm
Karaoke in the welly. Nasty business also
The kebab house next to Mr B's. Should be illegal
That nightclub, replicated everywhere around the country, but never bettered....
The so called young comunity, who do their best to wreck the towns displays.
Plus they cannot handle their drink, they are mouthy abusive they cause nothing
but trouble,it is about time the Police gave them more than just a ticking off
rather than just booking motorists for dogdey lights!!
Minehead Residents Association/ Watchdogs and all the moaning ratbags who only ever criticize and NEVER come up with anything positive.
Lynx taxis
Scary residential homes, The direct sewer outlet from the camp.
The old people dominate in the town and think that all the young people are yobs. This is not true, most of us are very friendly.
The scary local people. Unfortunatley Minehead itself is in dispute about what Butlin's actually does for the resort. 50% want it and 50% dont, the 50% that dont generally are just a bunch of whineing killjoys who moved to the town after 1962 (when the camp opened) and then decided to moan that they dont want it there. What they dont seem to realise is that Minehead, allthough nice, would not be on the map if it wasn't for Billy Butlin and their tack souviner shops would crumble into non-existance if it wasn't for the 10,500 guests that walk in and out of the main gate every week.
The lurkers -, yu know the creepy weirdos who hang around every where you go, WHY?
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
