The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
The Regal Theatre - Hated by those who neither know or use it. Inside it is home to some of the best amateur dramatics in the South West. It is in the process of an application for a Lottery Grant, so although not in perfect condition will soon be - and the technical equipment is always updated and up with the best. Try it before you slate it...
We went to Butlins last year for a week and it was wicked! All the staff were EXTREMELY friendly, (esp the male ones!) and we were well looked after!! Despite contrary views, Jaks really was Jumpin', especially after a few tequillas!!If you're ever thinking of going, look out for BR-ian the life guard and Geoff (aka Gary) the security guard. Have fun!!
GOLF GOLF GOLF. Yes there is a golf club, links course and a good one too. For Golfing breaks see York House Inn they specialize in that sort of thing.
despite its lack of facilities and prediliction to catering for an aging population at the expense of progress, Minehead is a decent town full of mainly honest, kind people and I sometimes long for the days when I lived there. Then I go back and realise why I had to move on. A rite of passage town if ever there was one - grow up there, enjoy it then leave it to your memories. Quit slating it, people!
CAMPING SPOTS: Well Minehead is very short on camp sites, well what do expectfor a seaside town. There are 2 in Minehead. The first in on top of a very steephill whichoverlooks the town. Greatcoming down but a bugger going up when your pissed. Car recommended or taxi. The other is justoutside Minehead onthe Porlock road at Middlecombe. About 2 miles to the centre of town. Both OK sites.
Minehead is not a place anyone would have ever heard of it it had not been for Butlin's settling there in the early 60's, the Local whingers probably wont hear of it, but lets face it, ive seen that place when the camp is closed and it's like a ghost town.
It has to be Exmoor, Minehead is a minute out of Exmoor and 5 minutes climb up North Hill you are in the middle of absolute isolation with spectacular views of the town and the severn esturay rolling into Wales.
TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DAMN EXPENSIVE!! I could have bought four times as much stuff in Liverpool with the same amount of cash as I did in Minehead. Ive got to admit one thing though the folks down there are nice some of the nicest Ive ever met, a bit dim though, but nice!
In addition to Guest Houses and Hotels, tourists can also stop quite local to Minehead at beautiful Blue Anchor, 100 yards away from the Steam Railway Station to Minehead etc. Why not give me a call if you're interested in stopping in my six Berth Luxuxy Caravan from £150 per week, situated on a quiet site, 150 yards away from the beach near Minehead. Call Andrew on 0121-608-2604.
Town full of tourists (either wrinklies, parents or kids), amusement arcades and tourist shops during the summer, dead in the winter, must be hellish to live there. Surrounded by beautiful but empty countryside. Don't go swimming on an incomming tide!
Me and my friend have been to Minehead and we think that it was good BUT IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE.
While I appreciate that your site allows the expression of personal opinions I object to the derogatory comment about the Regal Cinema being referred to as a 'fleapit'. We know that it requires work to bring it up to the standard we would like, but it is clean and fighting to keep a venue for the performing arts in West Somerset. Comments like the one referred to do not help. If you feel unable to delete the comment to which I object could you at least place in a statement to the effect that "Improvements to the facilities for the public are being made in order to raise standards and provide a source of live entertainment for locals and visitors alike. Now that we have finally signed the lease that guarantees our possession of the theatre for the next 100 years we can at last start to make substantial progress. " Many thanks for supporting us through your site.
The Regal Cinema - The definition of the word 'fleapit'. This place makes Butlins look stylish.
The Regal Theatre, The Avenue, Minehead provides a venue for amateur and professional performing arts throughout the year. The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
