Cringing Cult of Celebrity (Famous residents and ex-residents.)

  • Rick Astley lived in EARLSTOWN not Newton. So did Pete Waterman, he was knocking off a bird in a flat above Mr Morts jewellers next to the market.
  • 1980's page 3 girl Karen Kelly
  • my mum knows some bird whose boss is the queens chiropadist. enjoy.

  • Anyone who became famous immediately left! A couple of famous footballers live in neighbouring HAYDOCK, apparantly.
  • john barnes, roy carrol
  • Ashton produces a classy breed of celebrity. One needs look no further than the singing sensation that is/was Kym Marsh of chart toping act Hearsay
  • Gaz Mong and Turner are the only famous locals that come to mind. Apart from the one from hearsay but who cares about her, shes not as hilarious.

Buskers, Street Entertainers

  • Hank will be coming to a gerard centre near you soon look out for the TIN whistler otherwise known as the tin tootler and wicked whistler!!! ALSO make sure u check out chiffandfipple.com for all you budding tin whistlers out there!!!ENJOY!!
  • has anyone who goes into manchester regularly ever seen that bloke who stands outside boots wailing beatles songs and playing his acoustic harder than any man ever has? i think he should be brought to ashton and stood on that sign to the gerard centre. the place would be packed. but then thats just what i think...
  • LAUGH AT THE PEOPLE ON ASHTON MARKET.
  • I'll have to disagree, Mad Francis is more entertaining. Although he smellls like a wet dog he talks to his pint and salutes to anyone. He comes out with classic questions like "have you ever seen a grown man shot in battle?" reply "no, why have you Francis?" answer "No". Keep a look out for him either in the one of the pubs on in the gutter TN.
  • The best entertainment is watching Mad Harry in the cross keys through the window.TN

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
