Record Shops

  • used be one on garswood street wen i was kid
  • when i was young there was one record shop in the town, please come back cause i'm sick of going to wigan
  • not in ashton, try Asda price Golborne or Wiggin.
  • how annoying is it having to go out of town town to buy a cd? i'm no 'local shopper' but if thats all you want, going to wigan or earlstown is a bit of a trek. i know kwiksave have started selling them but have you looked at the range? if you don't want s club 7 or hearsay, no chance!
  • Record shops in Ashton now that would be a good idea. Is groove records still there??
  • pink pig, newton le willows nearest
  • Well there was groove records, do Ashton market sell any?
  • no record shops at all now they turned the only one into an internet cafe
  • What happend to Groove records?
  • well we haven't got any now ahve we since Grooves/Phase II Records became an internet cafe. who cares anyway? thay never sold any singles and any that they did have were on import an dead dear. he chareged me 8 quid for an oasis single once, but it did have a free sticker...

Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars

  • OLD DOGS INIT!!!! lol its wierd coz its shit but its good. queens is full of snobs.
  • Drugs, drunks and violence..welcome to Ashton
  • queens is good but its a fiver get in n it shuts at 2 the bouncers r right wierdos. old marys, friends, scarys, old dogs (a few of the names) is good free get in cos they cant charge ne1 2 go in ther its open til half 2 aswel
  • Queens: Or the Queens theatre as it says on the side. Maintained it's success ove the years without many a makover. I put it down to the DJ Stu Williams (think that's his name) not one of these IAM I AM I AM Dj's. adapted well with the changes in music over the years an coped well with the different age groups. Always finds the fine line betwen "thats cheesy" and "thats kickin'". Lighting sucks though!
  • Old Marys was the place, especially when Helen, Michelle and Laura were giving it up for us Wigan Academy lads. Thanks for that girls, appreciate it!
  • if u must go 2 ashton 4 a night out queens is the only possible nightclub. if anyone is even tempted to enter friends we would strongly advise agsinst it.
  • just a word about queens... i went in last summer and lit a cigarette. before i'd even got half way down it, it was soaking with other peoples airborne sweat, and it fell t'bits. it's shit. but it's all we've got. man.
  • Best club in Ashton has got to be Queens. Had alot of money put into it. Even tho the stairs look dodgy, wait till u get up them. Its Ace. Top notch lighting, air-cond, POLE DANCIN POLES, and excellent DJ with great music. Well worth a shot
  • queens, with the best dj ever! hmmm. old marys, need i even mention it.
  • Queens has a website www.queenstheatre.co.uk. Its worth a look even if its for a laugh (check out the page about the DJ Stu Williams).
  • Old Mary's is a dump - do not go in there!!! Queens isn't bad, although there are a few slags in there. Music's O.K in Queens, if you like cheesy tunes.
  • Maximes - Back to the old school - I saved my dinner money from school to buy a £25 ticket (I was a mature student - honest) - First time I went I got changed in skitters woods into a little bright pink lycra skirt and a white top and my trainers!? (so I could jump cos I heard thats how they danced!? Was May 1995 - still have the ticket!
  • does anything in ashton change? old mary's (scary's) is now called frenz(!) but it's full of the same old...well lets call them punters. all raving away in thier trackies or dress II impress gear! class! do any of these people ever leave?
  • Scary mary's, Scags, or Frenz as its now called: This is possibly the worst club in the world. Beer like P**s and full of sweaty spotty young teenagers. 3 quid to get in and your feet stick to the floor. Queens: Slightly more upmarket version of the above, with more arrogant bouncers. do not go in summer, save money and go to a Sauna.
  • is brian boru still going
  • old marys queens
  • Queens and Frenz
  • Reckon the club was called Queens. Seemed a lot better inside than it appeared on the outside. Not exactly CREAM (no scally's with suspicious little white envelopes) but worth a visit
  • queens which is crap, frenz which is the biggest dive in the world
  • Clubs, Clubs, Clubs. Ashton only has Queens and Frenz (formerly Old Marys). both only open till 1am and have lost their licences on neumours occations.
  • Queens open Friday and Saturday nights 9:30 - 1am, no-one usually goes in until 10:30 - 11:00 though, after Queens everyone usually goes around the corner to FRENZ (old Mary's) until 2 but I wouldn't recommed it though!
  • well what can you say abouy night clubs in Ashton! GO TO WIGAN INSTEAD!!! Frenz is about as big as your living room and full of dirty old men looking for a schoolgirl fling.
  • queens lets u and your mate who looks about 12 in one week and you go back the next week, with id, and they tell you it's over 21's. The drinks are dear aswell

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...
