Best and Worst in Erith, Greater London*

Erith, Greater London Triumphs and Tragedies

* Important Note: all entries in the Knowhere Guide are the opinions of its users. see What is Knowhere for more info about the Guide.

Favourite Building

  • In ERITH? Sorry it's a 60's nightmare.
  • Probably Christ Church in Victoria Road!
  • probably the chruch in Victoria street, alot of family history!
  • Christ Church, Erith Erith Library Erith Town Hall My house!

Demolish It Now Building

  • um.. ALL of Eith. It really is bad, still at least it's not the early stages of Thamesmead..
  • The whole of Erith town!!! Its falliong apart anyway, and looks extremly ugly!! Some fool, decided in the 60's or 70's to demolish a very quant little town and replace it with concrete city!!!!
  • the whole of the town centre, which was built using concret only thinking that it would look nice!!!! why didnt u leave it alone, i've seen pictures of how it used to be, very nice and traditional
  • Erith School The whole of Erith town centre including multi storey car park...its a concrete nightmare of small alleyways and one way roads The homes of the 23% of the constituency who were dull enough to fall for the BNP's ONE legitimate political point and vote for them.

The Best Things

  • Houses have been cheap, although prices have been going up since Morrison's opened.
  • the posh bit between town centre and north heath with lesney park and all that - i have tyo say its lovely during the summer and avenue road as well.
  • Not that much really!!! S'pose walking along the river front is quite nice, as long as you hold your breath so that you cant smell the river!!!
  • urm, are there any???? well my family all came from there (on my mothers side), apart from that none!
  • Close to central London. I can see the Thames from my house, although I can also see the Landfill site on the other side (Essex) and that sinister industrial building with no windows except at the very top and the blue floodlights. What goes on in there? People are nice, not that many nasty kids even though I live close to the school. Good train service....well, as good as Connex gets! Plus, you always get a seat. Cheap house prices/rent.

The Worst Things

  • This text box isn't big enough to list them all... LOL
  • The way the council have let the town become a slum, and yet have spent sooooooooooooooooooooooo much money on doing Bexleyheath up, when it didnt really need it all!!! Sort it out Bexely Council
  • i needs doing up! leave Bexleyheath alone, its fine how it is, spend some money on Erith, it needs it! everything has closed down, im ashamed to say that i come from ther!
  • As much as I appeciate this type of comment I don't want the Knowhere Guide to turn into a noticeboard. Please if you want to put a dossier together use the notice board as it will keep everything nice and tidy.
    The Knowhere Janitor
  • I have lived in Erith all my life and am sad to say that the town is degenerating day by day into a haven for thieves and louts with no respect for anyone or anything. The police are more interested in catching motorists who are two miles an hour over the speed limit than dealing with the verminous gangs of children hanging around on every street terrorising and intimidating anyone who crosses their path. I have written to our illustrious MP, Mr Nigel Beard, inviting him to actually take a look at what is happening to Erith and Slade Green, but have yet to receive any response - over two months since posting the letter. This apathy is indicative of exactly why Erith has fallen into such decay. However, there are many good people in Erith who want to stamp out the disease of delinquency and despair and turn this place around. How about some comments from others visitng The Knowhere Guide? I am putting together a dossier with which to approach the local auhtority and police. There is no real plan as yet, but I and many others are determind that Erith will not be turned over to lawlessness and filled with uncaring people.
  • Expensive train fare, not that many great pubs, plus sometimes a bit scary. Bad for car crime.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Erith. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Erith.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
