Food
the jacket poto van is mint!
pizzas take an hour to be delieved how fucking shit is that?
royal china princess road middlesbrough, class food, low prices!
Japanese near cineworld, oddles(noodles) on linthorpe road.
NANDOS well nice, not too cheap but its propa mint munch!
KFC Macdonalds
NOT CHEAP BUT THE BEST OF IT'S KIND IN THE 'BORO ... Khans curry house.
McDonald's pound saver menu :D
PARMOS!!!!!!! every takeaway in the boro has them and they're still goin strong, spread the word!!
Maccy D's
boro fish bar (nice photos)
BELLE VUE FISHERIES,BELLE VUE,MIDDLESBROUGH - AMAZING TAKEAWAY FOOD AT AMAZINGLY LOW PRICES. THEY SELL ALMOST ANYTHING AND IF IT,S NOT ON THE MENU THEY WILL TRY TO MAKE IT FOR YOU.PRICE,QUALITY AND QUANTITY ARE ALL EXCEPTIONAL.
Not Fellinis - the service is crap, the food not much better and they charge 3 times as much for the same as you get in many food pubs. Equally bad is Joe Riggatone's where the waiters pretend theyre Italian - I went to school with one and embarassed the hell outa him Try Sassaris on Linthorpe road or Zest opposite the UGC for lunch
me-mo's on eastbourne road. they do great bundle deals on food and it tastes amazing. we've probably put the owners kids through uni (or in middlesbrough, drug rehabilitation courses) with money spent there!
PARMO,PARMO,PARMO
Loadsa places to choose from in Boro, its all soo hard to choose at times but if time is no option go for Linthorpe roads China Buffet King, all you can eat for £6/9 wow, nice staff, spicy or simple fresh food and you can see the chef cooking it too. The best time to eat here is around 5pm as more tasty food options become available around this time Ive found - namely my favourite, salt and pepper squid with seaweed.
FELLINI'S USED TO BE GREAT., NOW ITS OVER PRICED AND THE FOOD IS BAD AND THE SERVICE TERRIBLE, WAHT HAS HAPPEND TO THIS PLACE?
barnacls
i am the grandchild of willaim upex and my dad is arthur upex and i would like to say the pies were great!!!
joe rigatoni's on linthorpe rd, lovely food, happy hour between 5-7, or something like that.
purple onion if u have a few bob spare.
The pizza shop on linthorpe rd! lovely!
BURGER KING!!!!! THE KING OF FOOD!!!!!
Loads and loads. Try Balti Raj Indian Take Away, I've never been disappointed, Iqbal regularly wins a regional competition for curry making and I know why. Pizza Pavillion is my local pizza place and it rocks, but Mega Bites is doing a deal on pizzas just now so I go there. There are dozens of take aways on Linthorpe Road but I wish I knew the number of a good Chinese.
For a meal I would suggest Banana leaf, a chinese buffet place on Linthorpe, Central Park is nice, generally Italian but they do sell other stuff. Fellini's looks really nice but i've never been in. There's a Joe Rigatoni's which is nice but really dark. Too dark, and try the bar next door, its really nice but always quiet!
central park really nice in middlesbrough and redcar!!
who ever mentioned about khans being fined are totaly wrong. They are the best indian by far and they did enter the competion for best curry in boro.If in doubt ask inviromental health about facts. They are the longest established indian resturant chain (3 in all) in town. Not closed down and reopend in different name (ie Masala ). Great family run establishment. My favourite is the one oppisite park gates. Try there speciality Mix Grill ( yummmmmmmmmmy)
food! without a dought the best egg fu young in the boro is from a chinese takeaway at the top of oxford road on the junction with roman road! also the best parmo is deffinatly EUROPA.
Sun Lok Curry House (beaumont rd)......best chinese ever!!!!!
Central Park, best ever meal-Recommend Sicillian Chicken.....If after a night out wanting greasy fattening foods-Pizza 2000, nice Kebabs, pizzas, burgers etc etc Lewis restaurant also a winner with yum food...both Linthorpe Road
Dont go to any pizza shop apart from bellisimo's, the rest are imigrants. bellisimos is a good quality italian/boro lad, he also does the best parmos in the north east.
Linthorpe road you'll find one but dont go to no pizza shop there turd and un healthy too. Go to toby cavern for a nice carvery or go to central park for a nice meal.
Isn't it always worrying how you can still get a takeway pizza for under £2. What do they put in them.
the bite inn two for one pizza's with an NUS card
next door Marios 16" pizza for £6
I WAS SHOCKED TO READ THAT KHAN TANDOORI HAD BEEN FINED UNCLEAN KITCHENS.
I THINK IT IS THE BEST INDIAN FOOD ANYWHERE, AND I`LL BE BACK FOR MORE.
This is where NOT to go- Dragon City in Spennymoor. The owners just been to Hong Kong to see his family, so I think everything comes with a side order of SARS. I'd stay away if I were you.
TGI FRIDAYS teeside park top notch
Banana leaf is brill !
Central park is always me fave, but fellinis and lewis's also gr8 and just tried frankie and bennies lushhh!!!!
Linthorpe road is takeawaye heaven, dam 100s of the inbetween charity shops
The best Italian Food shop in Middlesbrough "Touch of italy" just behind the Captin Cook shoping complex. Can be viewed on line for more info at http://touch-of-italy.com Found it about a year ago my wife had to get all the goddies i like from York but now its just on our door step. Brill you gotta go in!!!!
Palermo on Parliament road. Fine, fine burgers.
"touch of italy" on brentnall road, just behind the captain cook ar park, its an italian food specialists and also do specialist crafts. All of their products are imported direct from italy, and theyre are really cheap. They do over 90 different types of pasta, meats, cheeses, cakes, and also cater. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS IN THE WHOLE OF THE NORTH EAST, ITS AN ALADDINS CAVE OF WONDERS!!!! they are the friendliest staff, and i even got star treatment while doing a little shopping, coffee, tasters, and a real good chat, and they have a website www.touch-of-italy.com
bor is full of them, look for the grezz on the sidewalks
For a excellent curry you can't go wrong with Jamals, situated between The Purple Onion and Bobby's Cycles at the end of Corporation Rd. It's usualy fairly quiet, being just slightly out of the centre. The owner himself will take your order, don an apron and cook the lot within view ! Fantastic food. If you're tired of Massalas, This is a must try.
Gi Gi's used to do nice pizza, The Bite Inn do two for one (NUS) pizzas but you will probably die if you eat them, Anywhere that does good Parmos, avoid the dreaded Fish Parmo which is no doubt as disgusting as it sounds..
yummy, yummy, boro restaurants are among the finest in the world. Forget London, Paris, Rome, the Boro will cater for all your fish'n'dreams!!!
Purple onion is too expensive. Biancos in Ormesby has gorgeous chicken kebabs, GOODBODYS!!!!!! BEST SANDWICHES EVER!!!!!!!!! NEAR HSBC
McDonalds at the UGC Cinemas - shit service and they ban anyone who complains about their food!
forget it... NEWBOULDS used to do soem fine pork products but ive deceide to go veggie and anyway that was years ago
kfc duh!
The Shite Inn (Bite Inn) is the worst pizza shop in the world. But a spitting double for Luis Figo works there so its wicked crack after a nite on the beer hammering him. The man is a fucking machine, he works from 5 in the evening to 6 in the morning then he is seen down town at 10 in the morning. Respect or wot. He even wears naughty green sandles as well so the quaility of the footwear is outstanding. As far as the food goes its fucking rammy the pizzas taste like cardboard, the burgers are like leather and im sure they wank in the mayo. The abuse that the lads give them is amazing but they must have the last laugh when they watch us eat the food. Europa is the fucking daddy for parmos. Also Phil Stamp the Boro player must live in there cos everytime ive been in there, he has ben eating his way through the shop.
Parmo's are our pride and Joy - we have all the usuals but Parmo belongs to us.
Sunflower chinky in North Ormesby makes a crackin Beef Curry, Tell Lee I sent you and you will get some free prawn crackers, Hee Hee (Or Barred out)
Isaac Wilson(Wetherspoons) - Excellent food at great prices
munchies in eston do top parmos
If you want to wait for 2 hours for your meal after pre booking then go to the Central Park restraunt on Linthorpe Road, the waiters and waitresses never smile..
Boro Fish Bar
Made in Italy on Linthorpe Road, not far from the Crown. Cheap & cheerful Italian. It doesn`t seem to be very well known, but is getting busier every time I go. Great food with a very `home made` feel and always plays superb music ( Sinatra, Dean Martin etc ). I can personally recommend the `Penne Sole Mio`. Fantastic service too
"Genuine Upex Pies" are no longer, sadly after trading for over 100 years the upex pie shop was closed in 1998 and the building demolished in 2001.
Visit the Pekin Villa for the best chinese around what more can i say
JOHNS CHINESE ON BEAUMONT ROAD - THE BEST!!!
the best---Cleveland Tontine.
Chippy--Lealholme crescent.
Newboulds pork pies.
purple onion, joe rigatonis, fellinis, central park all good
PARMO ..IS EVERWERE
Kebab Centre, Boro Pizza, Peking Villa, Jade Garden, YK Chows, Kowloon House
Jade Garden chinese on Linthorpe rd £6 all u can eat
I DONT KNOW WHY WE BOTHER WITH MACKERS [MACDONALDS, MACKY DEES, ETC] ITS ENTICING, THEN YOU ORDER AND START TO EAT. THEN YOU REMEMBER THAT THE LAST TIME YOU WERE IN THERE YOU SAID 'I AM NOT EATING THIS AGAIN..' OH WELL. A LOCAL HANG OUT FOR THE KAPPA PATROL ON ALL DAYS OF THE WEEK. YOU CAN COUNT ON THE FAT GIRLS HOLDING A COKE AND A [LOW FAT] CHICKEN BURGER, OR A [EVEN LOWER FAT] CHEESE BURGER SANS CHEESE. I ADMIRE THEIR DETIRMINATION.
If you are in the Boro and in need of the culinary delicacy The 'parmo' That's escalope parmesan to the connoiseur! Then you must go to the EUROPA on Borough Road. They've been making them for as long as anyone can remember and once you've tried one you just can't help going back!
unon restraunt and boro pizza's thats the best they have to offer
Chinese take away in North Ormesby (doggy) at the bottom of Beaumont Rd,the main man,s called John, been there years best in the town.
The Pizza shop on Parliament rd with the huge fat bloke who drives the soft top sports car. Can anyone understand his thick teesside accent?
The bite in does a wicked kebab - tastes brill with or without a nite out. There are tons of places who do massive sandwiches for a quid around the place
Peking Villa is definately the best Chinese food ever and the best fish & chip shop in the town is Croft Ave in Acklam1
Whoever suggested eating at Khans must have steel lined guts. Sadly out of date information I'm afraid. They were recently fined £30,000 at Teesside Magistates for the appalling state of the kitchens (cockroaches. mice etc.
The top indian restaraunt in town is the Massala, opposite the Gazette offices. The have been voted top curry house for the last three years in a competion organised by Middlesbrough Council's environmental health department. Needless to say Khan's declined to enter!!!!
The central park on linthorpe Rd is really nice and friendly good looking staff!
Mojo's is fab for great food. Also try the China Buffet King situated in Linthopre village - loads to eat for £10.95 and you even get to select your own ingrediants for the main course - of course if it tastes like shit you cannot complain!
AS FAR AS THE INDIAN FOOD IS CONCEREND YOU HAVE TO VISIT THE 3 KHANS RESTAURANTS.EACH WITH ITS OWN DIFFERENT ATMOSPHERE AND MENU. GREAT PEOPLE TO DINE WITH AND HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR OVER 20 YEARS.THEY ALSO DELEVER THROUGHOUT THE CLEVELAND AREA.MOTO "NEED A CURRY?. DONT WORRY. WE'LL DELIVER IN A HURRY".
Middlesbrough's speciality - the parmesan, an enourmouse chicken or pork burger covered in breadcrumbs and soft cheese. Go to the "Pizza Shop" at the top of Lindthorpe Rd. for parmesans with pizza toppings! GREAT
Top restaurants in Boro are The Purple Onion (near the Odeon) and the Mojo Cafe. Both serve top quality food in quality surroundings. Purple Onion now has a cellar bar with live music.
The bay horse at great broughton
There's a chinky in Doggy that's wicked, don't know the address.
The Dickens Inn. Smart pub, smart tribute bands, smart beer, smart food what more can be said!!
The Kings Head (Newton Under Roseberry) excellent atmosphere for a meal, country style seating. Meals are wonderful. The desserts are to die for.
Good FISH'N'CHIP:
Emmersons chip shop on Ormesby Road
Barnacle Bills on Linthorpe Road
Robinsons Chippy on Ormesby Road (situated in Norfolk Shopping centre)
The Cany Caff - used to be called Jesters on Borough road, they do a fried egg and bacon butty which is to die for.
Roy's Cafe - across the road from The Hogs Head - good all day breakfast, always busy, bit of a student hang out.
The Bite Inn - 2 o'clock in the morning after a night on the beer, their Chili and Garlic Pizzas are heaven, espescially at only £2.50 (at least they were when I was there a year ago).
A really good Chinese place is the PARKWAY CHINESE which is situated at the Coulby Newham shopping centre.
The BEST chinese food in the north of England is the 'Peking Villa' where you are made to feel like a long established client from the first time you walk in. Its food has only been equalled in Chinatown, San Francisco.
Cheap cup of tea and bacon butty, Saturday morning in the church hall of St Columbas (sort of a greenhouse inside the church), corner of Sainsbury's Car park, Central Middlesbrough.
The finest restaurant in the UK is just outside Middlesbrough "The Cleveland Tontine".
I think Upex pies is still there, you are right legendary, we used to go from college!!!!!
"I worked at Skippers Lane industrial estate for 4 years and the best meat pies in the world could be had at Upex pies? Is the place still there?"
Chino's Pizza Shop, Acklam Road, M'bro. Coral Bay Fish Bar, Borough Road, M'Bro does legendary greasy pizzas with free chips.
San Remo's for food
Internet cafe in Linthorpe Road, called the Media Cafe. Cafe, club, licensed restaurant (creperie) etc. The cafe clientele also frequent the chat rooms at both geocities and l'hotel if expats want some real time conversation.
Anyone who hasn't visited Roy's cafe it's a must. Roy got voted honourary member of Teesside Uni over many famous celebrities. Spot on for a good hangover cure!!!
Pubs
myton in ingleby overpriced managment sucks
corner house, FLARES!
cant belive people ov boro would let the temple on linthorpe road go 2 the f***ing state its in now1 whats going on???
Lloys on a Saturday for your dinner & a few bottles of wine with the girls is good!! Gets ya ready for a Saturday night out in the town!
Coranation
The Cleveland on Linthorpe road is a good pub to go to, Full of decent people and the Manager's sound.
tall trees deffo the place to be
Coronation for the regulas, master cooper over the road for the ayeinebrau strong beer that got u smashed. everyone likes the camels hump but i aint a fan, isaacs is cheap as as well
the coronation. corra reds on tour!
the linfield farm up eh lingy does cheryl still work there
Scruffys on Bedford St - nice atmos, cheap cheap beer and friendly punters.
Pied Piper on ormesby bank - a bit "council" but cheap and friendly
mainly avoid localised pubs and stick in the town centre. otherwise a non-teesside accent will get you into trouble. the locals like to point out you 'aren't from around here!'
every pub in boro serves kids
THE ACKLAM PUB IS A GOOD LAFF, ITS GOT SOME INTERESTING SAD OLD FACES LYING IN THERE OWN VOMIT AND EYEING UP THE MALE BAR STAFF.
Aggie and her mate would certainly have a challenge with the White Rose on Marton Road Middlesbrough. It must be the dirtiest pub in town. The "ladies" toilets are disgusting.
Wall to Wall 'Theme Pubs' in town centre now - for a decent pint I'd recommend Zetland, Princess Alice or Issac Wilson
For a decent fight you can't beat Dalziels or whatever De Niro's is called these days
Trendy place with Upfront tunes but Absolute, is full of the wannabe beautiful crowd and a few genuine babes.
The Isaac Wilson is a J D Wetherspoon pub so there for a few cheapies first, but with not even a jukebox for musical background, we soon usually end up hitting some of the livelier bars, and like most towns just try to avoid the places the wankers are heading.
annies bar first floor linthope rd
the dickens! trendy as u can get and amazing in the summer, great outside terrace. great totty, plays funky house, does student discount.
The crown! great atmosphere, same old faces. cheap offers, student discount, plays everything, busy EVERY NIGHT!!
Issacs IS the BEST pub in teh worl EVER EVER EVER!!!! Although a strange new discovery that the Camels hump, round the back of Rileys is not at all that bad, infact its quite good. Cheap drinks hmmmmmmmmm.
LLoyds is gud if u wanna have a drink during the day. (alco)
The Crown was my home from home through my Univrsity years, but it sucks big time now. All the bar staff were my mates and I knew three of the DJ's but they're all strangers now. And one barman is a prat! The southfield is a regular haunt on southfield road but its a student pub. The cornerhose is really nice, as is the Purple Onion. They've got a Yates's and a Hogs Head and pints over a pound keeps the students out. So try those. BTW The Dickens is way overrated, its a cattle mart of weekends, prices are extortion and the clientel are predominantly wankers!
don't go into town centre to many FRESH FACES and i'm only 19. southfleid road a much crowd and you'll strugle to hear classics from flip flip, scooter and the new boys in town ultra beat
the hoggs head,bierex(alobert road)dr browns.
THE LINNY IS WICKED SO IS ISACS AND LLOYDS. BUT THE BEST PUB IN THE BORO HAS GOTTA BE DR BROWNS ESPECIALLY ON A MATCH DAY WEN A BAND R PLAYING AND THE BORO WON
Middlesbrough must possess the most drunken women (Wimmin)in the UK
although pretty and fashionable enough watch how they deteriorate
from 7pm-2am on a Saturday nite to such an extent that they possess
not a shred of dignity nor alure by closing time. Horrible!Stay Away!
a pubs a pub i have visited them all a few too many times!! some less than others (exchanges) sticky floor ew!
Lloyds bar, yum food and cheap drinks offers, Boro centre.
The Camels Hump is great for chilling out and catching up with friends - food is good, prices are ok, and the coctail menu will give a good start to any night out!!
I could go all day, Inn off the park, The Cleveland, Isac Wilsons
Go to in off the park some pool tables and plenty of snooker tables.
the brunton arms is an untapped resource with the strongest and cheapest pints in middlesbrough (fact) a pint on prinz and you want to kill the walls
haha the hairy lemon what a fukin dump
The pubs around the A66 flyover, seem to be stuck in a 70's music time warp and the people and pub layout are stuck in an 80's time warp. Plenty of "Bud" drinkers and sunbed faces can be seen. You may even see you mother in a short skirt here! Watch out for those divorcee man-eaters
hi there, rumpoles in the cleveland centre closed years ago.still a chinese on beaumont rd but not owned by john anymore ,still good grub.wee willie aka ,the evesham hotel was closed after drugs squad raided it ,up for sale now.the old mint is now the ayresome park with footy on telly every night and memorabilia all over the place, good pub.im boro born and bred so ill keep you updated ok ,there is a great new pub ,used to be the odeon called jumpin jacks, good booze deals and good entertainment, real fun pub ,the bar staff get up and dance on bars and on stage
The coulby farm but more for their cheap food!!I love lloyds!!excellent!!!!
avoid anything near the uni as they are full of stuck up students who cant wipe there ars* clean
MY arse ffresh faced crowd you been in flares ????? eh god its school reunion night (before youve left school)
Mourn the loss of Rumpoles ladies and gentlemen, Doctor Browns is a poor substitute, but tries hard.
Dickens, Union thats all everywere else u go to die.,
Dickens Inn! Quality pub
Camels Hump and the Southfield, best jukeboxes I've ever come accross
best or full of student blonkers
Go to the Issacs, no dance music cheep drinks and beloved curry club..
the Brunton Arms is a good pub, beers spot on and the lager just a shame about the manager{dark cloud}what a sour faced twat
roseberry, oh no, shut down. been open about 8 times under new management
Cassidy's Bar - A great place where a lot of men like to go, especially if they are on the look out for another man! If you're a person who is against gays I wouldn't hang about there on a night, people are sure to see two men having sex, which quite frankly isnt a very nice thing to look at!
Southfield Road is the best place to be either day or night. Students beware later on though as they are definitely a target for muggers
The courtyard is ok with a couple of pool tables and a karaoke on a thursday try it...
the rat and parrot
No pub will ever match The Empire, which became the Hogshead, the Tavern and is now The House. RIP.
There is only one Pub in the Town for me. The Brambles Farm Hotel.
It hasn't changed in twenty five years, same decor, same customers, same 80 bob.
Had a few bosses come and go but still keeps going.
Had me 1st pint there, me 1st fight there and well you can guess the rest.
Best pub in Middlesbrough is The Zetland opposite the railway station.
Great manager, lively music and interesting regulars.
Isaac Wilson - Cheap Beer
Middlebeck - Ayeingerbrau(ask for a pint of Ordinary) £1.35 per pint. It's the best lager I've tasted anywhere, even better than Stella. It really will blow you away.
barzantia top pup
The Pathfinders pub in maltby, a quality country pub, nice food, great service good night altogether!!!
The Star and Garter - Southfield Road.
Sruffy Murphies - Bedford Street
Royal Ex
Doc Browns near the UGC cinema is the epitome of the perfect pub. An excellent local with great guest beers, a real fire and friendly service. Close enough to the town to be a good starting point, it is always lively but never rowdy. Attracts a varied clientele from tired office workers to (not so tired) students, and locals, as well as football fans on match days.A great place for an after work pint on a Friday.
The Dev if you behave yourself
bar zantia, bierrex, spensleys, dickens, camels hump, ts one, all good
THE BEST EVER BAR IV BEEN IN WAS FLARES IN THE BORO GREAT FUN THE DJ IS GOOD THE BEST EVER .VERY BLUE THO AT TIMES .HE WILL HAMMER YOU IF YOU ASK FOR IT C ROCK TUESDAY .CORNER HOUSE .
Scruffy Murphys, The Isaac Wilson
The Linthorpe is a great pub, constantly being revamped but attracting the same laid back crowd
...the house, Linthorpe Road. Formerly The Tavern. Yet again another name change and a whole new refurb. Great student friendly pub. Good fun and plenty of totty!!
Rumpoles in the Cleveland Centre. Rock night every Wednesday, buy one pint of John Smith's and get another free ..... Had some serious hangovers from that place. Live music too.
the southfield , cornerhouse, the dickens
yello rose
The Endeavour in Acklam is the only pub in the world
FARK, PUBS? THERE ARE SOME GOOD ONES, THE CAMELS HUMP FOR ALL YOU UNI GOERS, HOT SHOTS POOL PLACE AND THE HOTEL ITS ATTACHED TO, ERM.
Norman Conquest is a good local. In town the Dickens Inn always stands the test of time. Also, the House, the Cornerhouse and the cellar bar are good pubs
Chicago rock cafe is a trendy chic meeting spot on Wilson Street . Issac Newton , Flares , Huxters , hogshead , The Hairy Lemon , The Marquis , Dr Browns (the best meeting point in Middlesbrough!) ,
dickens inn gets packed almost too packed so if ur looking for people thats the place but if ur looking for a drink u might have a little wait
Camels Hump - No bother, no fuss, put some tunes on the jukebox and put the world to rights.
The Jack and Jill a good place to meet new faces as well as the locals it also shows live sport
The Wee Willy now known as 'the eversham'
thanx for the good write up ..ie im the dj from flares ...the mad one however we have a new bar in the boro called planet yummyumm...the old huxters site ..give it a try....
Barzantia & Bar Fresco... The two best places in town easily... If you like it busy, crowded and stylish with lots of relaxed house music...
The Coronation at Acklam is full of friendly faces and the beer is decent but if you want strong lager with is guaranteed to get you p***ed after a pint is the master cooper on Acklam Rd the lager is german i think and very strong...trust me!!!
The corner house is a gr8 bar it isnt a club but its cool!! On a thursday night its £1 a shot £1 a cocktail all night!!!
Bar Fresco is £1.50 for a treble vodka/malibu/archers!! And bottles r buy1 get1 free Only before 9.00!!
Flares which is attached to the welly and is great the dj is mad even though he does take the mick with things like "If u easily take offence then fuck off" and is mad all the music is seventies buit does get u going on a thursday its buy one get one free on selected drinks and i have to say even if ur not going clubbing its a great night!
Crown converted abc cinima massive on a thursday night on Linthorpe road
Yates wine lodge, great Irish booze
Any pub on a Sunday night is going to be full. Everybody is in a good mood, on Sunday, aswell. This is wierd as it is back to work the next day, but that's the Boro for you!
Doctor Browns (formerly the Malt Shovel) often have good bands on on a friday night
The Rudds arms (on Stokesley Road - continue down Marton road past Stewart's Park) A top pub, great food (served 12-6.30 everyday), super staff (the fastest service in Middlesbrough!) Kicking nights: Tuesdays and Fridays - a mixed crowd, occasional theme nights - come in and laugh at the staff wearing MAD 70's clothes and other fancy dress. A refreshing change to the town pubs, big (safe) carpark lots of taxis and buses, try it you might just like it!
bar zantia..good pulling pub, on albert rd
The Tap and Spile in Guisborough, just outside Middlesbrough, has a great range of beers, and live music on Wednesdays.
On Friday and Saturday nights I would recommend most of the pubs in the town. Here is a list of some of the best pubs:
The Royal Exchange.
The Old Mint.
The Venue.
The Lord Raglan.
Bolcows.
The Corner House.
Wickers World.
Grenadier Pub, Acklam: Great pub. Good pool. Big screen TV to watch a boro match. Trivia night is Wednesday with prizes.
One of the best pubs in the Linthorpe Area of Middlesbrough is the Linthorpe; it is kicking every night of the week especially Thursday to Sunday.
The Kings Head at Seamer near Middlesbrough, has a unique collection of brassware and a good athmosphere.
Other decent pubs include the Malt Shovel (Corporation Road) near the ODEON CINEMA, and the Tap and Barrell, both serve a range of real ales, some brewed in the town (Try the Flying Herbert). The Malt Shovel is desserted on non-match days, always a seat available, even on Friday Night, real fires etc.
Also Rudds Arms Tuesday nights very popular.
The Tavern/Star and Garter/Fly and Firkin/Dickens are all located around the same block and are all decent pubs with a good range of drinks. A bonus is that none of these pubs have any strict dress codes on a weekend, unlike the pubs around the Cleveland Centre area of town.
Cornerhouse Bar under the railway station owned by The Arena. The best in the North. The Cornerhouse is most definitely the best pub in Middlesbrough with the exception of O'Dwyers (the Irish pub opposite the bus station). The Cornerhouse does occasionally have some decent college bands playing there such as Helter Skelter while O'Dwyers I remember for getting very drunk on Guinness. Also as the toilet doors state the sex in Irish, it has caused a few laughs to see friends who are male come rushing out off the girl's loos realising the mistake they have just made!
Bierrex is a continental style bar which sells about 10 different Belgian trappist beers and various other interesting brews.
The Old Mint, Bolckows and the Venue are good on a weekend night.
The Tavern (formerly the Hogshead, formerly the Empire) also has a good range of beers
The Star and Garter, the Fly and Firkin are nice pubs with good range of beers - both mainly student retreats
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Sams place, excellant coffee on Linthorpe Road.
local pubs are crap!
Gotta be the little shop on bedford st near scruffy murphy's - bacon butties 99p
Why would anybody wanna pay three quid for a cuppa?? - gimme a nice mug in the Dundas or Hill Street - 75p
Most of them in Boro, like most coffe shops I spose are full of dithering old people confused about mocca chocca chino lattes n stuff but Sarahs cafe in the Cleveland Centre still serves up the goods to a decent standard and at the right price.
canny caff on boro rd! lush sandwitches
The hot chocolates are gorge from 3rd floor in Debenhams. they r called hot choclate supreme!!!!!! £1.60 Bargain!!!!
Esquires Cafe, located in Clintons Cards do really good milkshakes & smoothies. At reasonable prices too
Aunt Ethel's coffee shop springs to mind, but only because I actually had an Aunt Ethel. There are plenty of them tucked away, Costa being the most high profile, but its in the back of a Clinton Cards which is weird. The most oddly named one is Comrades Cafe Bar which is on Marton Road, right next to (and I swear its true) the Unemployed Working Man's Union. Surely they can be only one or the other. But I don't trust the Commie Cafe so i've never been in
Healthy Bytes, 1 Grange Road. The cheapest cup of tea and the best cake & custard in the boro. All this plus free internet access too!
Goodbodys serves the best ever Pasta Italliano with Bacon & Cheese,Mmmmm, try it you wont be dissapointed....
Dont go into rendevouz
kofe in Durham! Excellent! Best Americanos in the North.
NON!!!!!!!I WANT A STARBUCKS i love it and the only way i can hav a caramel mochiota is when i go 2 newcastle,PLZ STARBUCKS=WANTED not that costa shite
Supernatural cafe cleveland centre and supernatural take away linthorpe village is great(not juts because i used to work there!!)the sarnies r really lush and value for money!
best coffe shop is bus to hull ferry to holland train to amsterdam walk up dam square and look round. You wont find that culture in the boro
the one near the suspended boat inside cleveland centre, dont know the name........
Grangers next door to the post office in the town centre, dare to try the granger burger?
The one upstairs in Cleveland centre is good.
Oodles is a noodle cafe the cafe is clean stylish the staff are friendly and the food is great.
Late 70s.the old butchers coffee and craft shop on devonshire road, run by a load of christians. I used to serve coffee to Eugene,Chris Rea's cousin or brother, then I'd empty the contents of the till into my pocket.Hallelujah! hot cheese scones are best made with milk thats gone off.
The Porthole for a hangover clearing fry up
lots
HMMM HUXTERS IS OK ........HOGS HEAD
Brambles id loveley for when you are shopping- great sarnies!
Cafe Pronto on Albert Road is a MUST - not only cos the blue/orange decor looks v funky! seriously, the coffee is nice (and reasonable)as are the staff (who remember you and your order) and the people who drink there (note the amount of poetry etc pinned up on the noticeboards)
Coffe Pronto on Albert road is a fab place , trendy and unique in its own right , Costa coffee isn't bad - but please why doesn't this dump have a Starbucks or Coffe Republic!!!
Stay away from the Dundas Inshops cafe if you don`t want food tasting of smoke.
Good Cafe`s that aren`t too pricey and posh are Sarahs in Cleveland Centre and the one up the stairs and above the cake shop in the Hill Street Centre.
Also, a good bacon buttie in and English cafe opposite The Westminster Pub on Parli Road.
Roys, I must admit is excellent but San Remo's pizza shop is not even
in the iron gut league after the pub, a friend of mine still goes there
even though I found a durex baked into the dough of my pizza after a heavy
night out!!!! Run past the shop fast before they try and cook you!!
The best Bacon Buttie in the UK has to go to the Canny Caff of Borough Rd. Quality grubb at seriously low prices!
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Middlesbrough.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Middlesbrough.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
