Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains
Langleys has the best selection of clothes for wrinklies in...well, Watchet. Oh, but they now have TIMBERLAND threads (WOW!)...who knows what will be next?? Country Matters has wonderful clothes for Pakistani's (or, perhaps, hippies?)
Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)
apart from the occasional fire and graffiti in the town there is a very good gallery in swain street, one of the better things in the town !
BIGG UP TO THE COTTENS!!!! KEEP IT UP WE LUV YOU
Lynda Cotton Art Gallery sells original paintings as well as other bits and pieces such as Abstract images in local stones by David Milton.
The other gallery is Alan Ward's Sidelines. This is mainly train associated and you'll struggle to find a picture that isn't a print.
Watchet it self is an Artform!!!
People come from far and wide to visit Lynda & Nick at the Lynda Cotton Gallery. They have a large knowledge of modern, local & Victorian art. If you just want to browse, get info, or buy - you will get a warm welcome! And pay a visit to Grandma's Attic, just down the road, for a great selection of second hand books, antiques and bric-a-brac.
There's the Art gallery at the top of Swain Street - strictly for Anoraks of the train-spotting type. Then there's Cotton's further down the street - pricey but quite good. Nick's stuff is OK.
We have 2 art galleries!!!!! Linda Cotton Gallery is the best (& I'm not just saying that because I know her son & daughter....or am I?) Sidelines is the other and it's all about trains. Alan Ward sells his original stuff here. Anoraks come from all over the country to buy his stuff. And he DOES sell some really nice pictures of local scenes.
Magazine and Comic Shops
Harbour news is the place for your papers and magazines, however the Alldays and Londis shops also carry a selection.
theres 3 shops for Magazine's
There's Chilcotts, but you don't come here to buy magazines and comics. You come here for a blast of fresh North Coast sea air . Checkout the beach at Helwell for fossils, you cannot fail to find some .
Harbour News has the best selection. Hardly any porno, though!
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Watchet.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Watchet.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
