Musical Instrument Shops and DJ Gear

  • Try Blueyonder in Turner Street. New place with some good deals. Don't expect Gibson or fender tho'
  • In light of some issues that have been brought to our attention by several students here at Dudley Music Centre, Lawnswood Road, DY8 5PQ we would like to issue the following statement. Dudley Music Centre provides music education for young people throughout the borough and is part funded by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council through the Standards Fund. We promote music education by: providing instrumental and vocal tuition, supporting and developing music in schools/colleges, and organising a wide range of music events. Dudley Performing Arts activities also take place at Dudley Music Centre. Dudley Music Centre only offer music tuition and examinations (for those who want them) from our site here on Lawnswood Road, excepting when our tutors travel to various schools and colleges. We provide a first class environment for music students. All our staff are carefully vetted by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council to be suitable to work with children and young people, and are required to be qualified in first aid. We are not, nor have we ever been associated with the music shop and guitar tutoring at 61 Tower Road, Dudley nor do we endorse the said shop in any way even though they have adopted the same name as our older establishment. The only music shop in Dudley that Dudley Music Centre ever used for instrument and equipment repairs was the superb Modern Music on Castle Hill (which has now ceased trading) though we were not in any way affiliated to it. However we do now currently have our own repair services, so subsequently do not need to use outside service providers. Hopefully the concerns of our students regarding Dudley Music Centre have now been addressed.
  • I get my guitar stuff from Soundcontrol or Digital Village in Birmingham, they're cheap man!! Forget lessons I learned from tab books (Just got the new greenday book on ebay for £5.00 bitchin!!!). Been in the other dudley music shop in tower road a couple of times so will join in the fun. 1st time I went in with my mates they let their dog p**s all over the floor and everybody was soakin soles in it, was funny man!! and the old woman who works there keeps slagging off everybody. Her favorite peeve is the other dudley guitar shops, jeavons, the new one on wellington road and modern music( arent they shut down for like years already?) she even started whinging about her eldster husband/partner when he went off to give a guitar lesson. She just swears and swears, recorded a bit of it on my phone, will post it on our bands frewebs and myspace when I get a chance kerrys emo dream (please download it dont stream play it we got to watch our free banwidth limits) .Will sample her on our next band demo, might call it crazy bitch, lol. If u want a laugh ask her a question about amps or guitars and try and keep a straight face when she tries to answer-you score extra points when she reaches for the mystery voice on the phone.Wouldnt ever buy from there but like 10/10 for entertainmemt value man, and dont forget yr cameraphone - keep it hid. Ha ha. Check us at the courthouse soon, 'Kerrys Emo Dream' free in -will post dates on all the usual lists when the night line ups iced.
  • Really? Excellent!!! The guy who was rude to me and my dad said he was the owner John Whorton, a little creepy grey haired weasel faced guy. I'm glad to hear you've got rid of him -fair play -he deserved it he was so rude. Thanks for the apology. I'll pop in and check you out now the creepy guy's gone. PS Just one thing though- since everyone knows Dudley Music Centre is in Lawnswood Road (has been for many years) and they had the name first so why don't you change the name to avoid confusion? laterz
  • MESSAGE FROM DUDLEY MUSIC CENTRE. We have no interest in free advertising and would not use this forum in this way. The views below represent our customers opinions and are not covert advertising tactics. To respond to the last users comment. The man you would have spoke to is not the owner and is no longer employed by us. We are sorry for any comments he may have made. Dudley Music Centre & Guitar Studios
  • No way!!! I get my guitar set up, my strings and my lessons from the real Dudley Music Centre,Lawnswood Road, DY8 5PQ. They're linked to Dudley Schools and Colleges and part funded by Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council so they're fantastic - I get to jam with all my mates and my boyfriend too, though I'm better than him of course ;-) I did once go to the place in Tower Street with my dad to find out about lessons and equipment but the guy who ran it was rude to us and didn't seem interested. Anyway he gave me the creeps!! - Sorry but just telling it like it is. - I only went there because I got the name confused with the real Dudley Music Centre in Lawnswood Road (My Tutor said that they had the name years before the tower st place). And Hey! Call me a suspicious Alice about the last couple of posts, but how do we know that the Tower St music shop isn't posting here for free advertising??? PS I've also tried Jeavons Music, King Street they were pretty good, but you have to travel to the big shops in Brum if you want to try out loads of funky gear -laterz!!
  • Thanks for the word up about Dudley Music Centre, found the shop in Tower Street. I spoke to the owner John who gave me gr8 technical advice. Bought a great new bass at a very good price. They did tell me they are about to set up a website and have plans to do mail order (www.dudleymusiccentre.co.uk). The shop does not open on Wednesday and Sunday but is open the rest of the week. Would recommend to anyone.
  • Just found Dudley Music Centre in the centre of Dudley. What a place... only a small shop but has a massive rang of guitars, amps and other items and all at decent prices. Why have I never heard of this place before, it even has a guitar studio. Well recommended

  • Just recorded a new 3 track demo at the Den in Dudley. They just put in a 32 track protools setup, very professional and well run and very good at what they do, will use them again. *daz@spiderbite*
  • Feb 06. Basement much improved and very busy esp midweek evenings (aren't they all). Good recording packages and solid gear. Recently padded rehearsal room gives great sound.
  • The recording studio at halesowen college is the goats horns!!Mackie desk, cubase and reason software, pod modelling fx, virus synth. If you dont sound good with their stuff you aint never gonna sound good.I love it enroll if you can man - see u there.
  • For recording;Jam Jar, Jam Jar, Jam Jar!!!! Brill recording studio. My last demo turned out great. For rehearsal rooms I prefer Dudley Music Centre in Lawnswood Road.
  • We used Jam Jar in Cradley once, totally USELESS and never again!, the basement is ok, recording is dodgy tho. We use the Den in Dudley and have for about 6 months, great rooms and equipment, the guy that owns it is really sound. We recorded there in October and it sounds wicked.
  • Jamjar -In Cradley they're excellent!!! Some of the rooms have valve Marshall Amps in -scuze me while I kiss the Sky.....
  • Den supposed to be ok but havent tried it yet. Apex in Halesowen is good -you get to send your gear upstairs to the practice rooms in this funky old lift (not for people though -you have to walk up the stairs -bummer!!)Friendly place though -some nice gear in the rooms.
  • The Basement now has Recording Facilities. Only one room and a booth but well equipped- an excellent facility. Base rate £5 per hour but deals for block booking.
  • The Den Studios is the only recording/rehearsal facility in Dudley that I know too. Owned by a guy I know from college. Check it out!
  • The Basement Rehearsal Room and Teaching Studio. 89 High Street, Dudley. Tel: 07979 653412
  • The Den Studios. This is located on the industrial estate North of Top Church. There is two practice rooms with 2 guitar amps, one bass amp, a drum kit and a PA system in each room, accessories are also sold there. A quality place for practicing with bands.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Dudley. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Dudley.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
