The Pacifica on Westfield street is one of the nicest restaraunts I have ever had the pleasure
of eatin in. The food is outstanding and I can safely say it is one of the few gems to be found here.
La Casa Veja is also a wonderful restaraunt, hidden away near the Alfred. YOu feel like you are on holiday and the food is lovely
Pacifica Restaurant is probably the best Cantonese restaurant I have ever been, I can't belive it is actually in this town.
AFORE MENTIONED "LE PIE" " AND 5 STAR "PIE HEAVEN"
mmmmmmmmm, mcdonalds, burger king, kfc, pizza hut, what more can a girl want??? first class choice!!
SANAM INDIAN TAKE AWAY - MILD BUT GREAT.
COLOURS THE BEST RESTAURANT IN THE NORTHWEST BAR NONE - AMAZING FOOD , CHEAP AND GOOD PRICED BOOZE. I OFTEN DO BUSINESS MEALS THERE WITH CLIENTS WHO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.
NOT FOR THOSE WHO THINK A GOOD MEAL INVOLVES STICKING AS MUCH FOOD ON THE PLATES AS POSSIBLE REGARLESS OF TASTE AND THAT HOUSE RED IS TOMATO SAUCE.
GREAT PLACE TO TREAT PARENTS TO A MEAL ON SUNDAYS £8.50 3 COURSES.
The Bella Roma cafe in George street is a very good restaurant good food with good prices, if your looking for a quick take away why not try the chippy over the road from the conserative club in parr good food only down fall is the woman behind the counter she as a face on her like a slapped arse
THE JADE GARDEN NEXT TO THE BUS STATION IS GOOD AND A LOT CHEAPER THAN MR CHANS BUT BE CAREFULL THAT YOU DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN FAMILY ROW!
I can't believe the Bear's Paw is no more. The gravy was the best in the world

Garlic mushrooms from the spicy rat, just the tonic to follow 6 bottles of bacardi breezer.

LATHOMS FOR A BABBIES YED AND SPLIT AFTER THE GERARD SPILLS OUT
Ha ha yeah right. Good pies though.
The new Burger king...Refillable drinks...
Pimmies and chipmunk
alberts, in thatto heath, cant think of the new name, but it ruled in its time
Chans Chippy in Knowsley Rd. Five Ways chippy. Keith Skidmore's chippy was great too (It used to be where Chans is now). The best of the lot was the "Golden Dragon" in Cambridge road. Their Sweet n' Sour Chicken was out of this world. Sadly, the owner packed up and moved to Birmingham, so those lucky brummies can enjoy his cooking skills.
the chippy in haresfinch - nice!
the helenic for a cheep greek
With reference to the above message, Pimmy's pies are not bloody cheap, they,re the dearest pies i've ever had! Every time I go in they've gone up another penny. They go up more than Petrol and that's sayin' summert!
Crispy Cod outside Knowsley Rd Saints. Not bad. Good chips.
kfc. sorry but it's finger lickin good.
limmosal
As a refugee in Kent, may I commend this wonderful website on allowing this poor, long lost, Sintelliner, to share the memories of what is commonly reguarded as the cultural epicentre of the modern universe i.e. PIMBLETTS PIES!!!!!!!!!! We here in Canterbury await the launch of the Pimbletts international same day delivery internet service!!!
We want a mexican restaurant
Kebab shop near lowies, get a special kebab (doner, shish, chicken&kofte) a wagon load of meat. Mayfair, WestEnd Road Haydock just before you get to the Huntsman complete breakfast on a massive barmcake(about 12 inch across)
sanam gods curry house
latham's before it shut down was fantastic after a night in the gerard arms
the chipmunk of course
If you like Indians then try Sanams on North Road. Its amazing.I recomment the Chicken Tikka Masala ,chips, garlic naan and onion baji.Great value as it will come to about £9.50 and will feed two .
Haydock Supper Bar - Fab Gravy. However, since it's changed ownership, the staff have become CRAP. Same applies to Blackbrook, but the staff are more crap.
chipmunk chips are top!! haydock supper bar is the cock of all chippies though
Larkins is worth going to, For a nice meal and a room of your own, but does have a pricey menu!
Don't touch it please we don't know where it came from.
mc tuckys hut is best place in town
The Chunge Wah Just to the left of the Toen hall does the best mixed grill EVER! Also `Allans' little shop on Hammond St Does A FANTASTIC monty! ( that is bacon sausage and egg on toast )...simply heaven and only £1.45 a bargain!. That greasy spoon next to the station was quite good for a breckie, but they keep putting the prices up.
Chicken Barbeque do absolutely delightful Sausage and Bacon Barms and Cobs. Try the Turkey with Stuffing too. Mmmm.
Try the new Colours Restaurant or Limosal the Greek restaurant? Top
Nabis. Something hairy and furry rubbed against my shins here and it wasn't the proprietor's leg.
Pimblett's pies are legendary. Without doubt they are the pies Meat & Potato pies you will ever taste. Yum.
According to this page, We Sintellinsers eat more pies that Wigan Pie Eaters...
Johny Leungs in Chain Lane offers the best Chinese food in St Helens
Larkins , North Road . Great food , weird staff
Mr Chans - Chinese: v.g.
Tandoori Garrrrr in Westfield Street, looks like a prison, but serves great food.
Sammy Livesley Pies, behind the town hall - melt in your mouth the gravy dribbles down your chin from the steak pies and probably the cheapest pies in the world
Restaurants - Chinese, Indian, Greek, Italian, Thai, ENGLISH (not bad for a smallish town)
Probably the worst place for grub in the Uk . Honourable exceptions:- Ruan Thai in Hall Street Italian Restaurant next door Palace Indian in Duke Stret Mr Chans Chinese in North Road Otherwise.......see your doctor or go into Liverpool/Manchester
One of the best bakers is/was Skellands in Boundary Road particularly for steak pies.
We now have two (yes, two) McDonalds!!!! One in the town centre, and one just outside - a drive thru that actually has a claim to fame - it has two big 'M's!! No-one else has that!
Never mind Pimbletts pies - try Birchalls and Blackburns pies as well. Just as good. In Westfield Street and Cambridge Road.
Pimbletts Pies
I was amazed to read the Knowhere guide to St. Helens without seeing mention of Pimblett's bakers. Pimblett's are producers of the best pies in the whole of the North-West of England and are the first choice of all St. Helens fiolh. Definitely not one to be missed.
The part I like best about your page is the article on Pimbletts Pies. I have to agree that they are the best pies on the planet. Having spent twelve years in the R.N.and having travelled the globe a few times, I can tell you quite frankly that there is nothing to compare. I have lived all over the UK and for several years overseas, but the Gold Standard for pies has to be Pimblett's. Their meat and potato pie cannot be bettered.
One word that can sum up St.Helens is "Pimbletts".
This chain of pie shops are dotted around St.Helens and make the nicest pies in the land.
The reason it sums up St.Helens is that they're cheap, common, but absolutely smart!!!
While I'm on the point of food, Christies Deli at the bottom of Kiln Lane is absolutely gorgeous.
All the Saints players go there, and they'll make you any butty you want.
The owner is a baldy bloke called Pete Bonati and all the ladies that work there are really friendly.
Pubs
Maloneys is possibly the best bar in St Helens nowadays. But The Sporties is good for a laugh.
market place
cream lounge
The Woodands disco sunday ,tuesday ,thursday 49p for half lager 1.00 for double vodka n orange! completely pissed off £4.00 either way!suffering hangover in school amd another lie about what film we'd watched at the pictures!!!!
the bullion is the only pub to my knowledge where you need a preliminary swimming certificate to take a piss!
THE GROGADILE IN THATTO HEATH
I love Bar X, if ur a student then the best place to work is the wheatsheaf, all the tutors drink there so, if you are discreet about what they get up to, u can get away with murder!!!!
chicago rock is better than any place in scummy liverpool scouse inbreds
Ok, there are lots of nice bars, just a real lack of clued up people. The best music in the town (and probably the surrounding areas)
is the Nelson on a Saturday night (ok the pubs a sh1thole but the tuns and mixing is outstanding). Uncommercial House and Garage with some old school thrown in. This DJ is wasted round here.
Westfields on a Saturday also has a top R&B DJ, but why does the bar fill with middle aged, has been blokes. Shouldn't you be in Crystals, you certainly aint there for the music.
To be fair some decent bars have sprung up, just need decent people to fill them instead of the meathead massive.
Get yourself down to Blackbrook Rugby Club on a Saturday or Sunday. Watch the games (Open age Saturday, kids 7-16 Sunday). Bring your kids, leave them to run riot and smash up the premises whilst you get pi**ed, (Thats what everyone else does). If you're lucky you might see the rugby team getting their kits off on a Saturday after the match, setting fire to their todgers, throwing women around on the floor etc, etc, Don't pay good money for mediaeval entertainment, it's all for free at Blackbrook. But seriously, top beer, reasonable prices, a steward who cleans his beer lines regularly and actually buys his beer from the brewery in sealed barrels. (Unusual that!). The bar staff here are probably the best in the world, the customer is never right and all staff appear to have undergone training at the Jim Royle charm school, you'll pick up some great insults to use on your worst enemies. They only tend to insult people they know - so you'll be safe for your first few visits - you mght even get a smile - but don't hold your breath. Clientele are from all over due to the rugby at a week-end, but through the week be prepared for the Blackbrook and Parr in-breds.
There are no decent pubs/clubs in this backward shit hole. Get you arse down to Wigan for a proper night out.
The Plaza is now called the Orange something or other - has anyone been in it yet? Anyone know what it's like??
no good pubs in St Helens, only gathering places for inbreds to fight. I mean the gate was good fun, but it was still a $h1t hole. Although the Nelson was less aggressive than most.
JAM PACKED WITH HOB GOBLINS WEARING THE STRANGEST OUTFITS DRINKING THE LEFT OVERS FROM LONG GONE HORRIFIED SCOUSERS. (GROSS)
THE WOODLANDS ON WOODLAND ROAD IS AN EXELLENT PLACE TO GO ON A WEEKEND WITH PINTS ON CARLING AT 1.55 IT CANT BE BAD.
THE GED ROCKS!!! (Gerrard Arms) specially Quiz night - a fave for all us student types!!
Java An unspoint drinking haven.
Best pub by far in St.Helens is defo BAR X!!!!!!!
Chicago Rock -This place is like the Star Wars bar....take your light saber with you.
BAR X IS A GREAT BAR AND SERVES MICHELOB , GOOD TUNES PLENTY OF EYE CANDY.
CHICAGO ROCK IS A VERY BAD NIGHT OUT FULL OF OLD PEOPLE AND THE SAME TUNES WEEK IN WEEK OUT. SUNDAY USED TO BE A GREAT NIGHT BUT ITS VERY BAD NOW.JAVA FOR A QUICK SNAK.
The Turks head when Sirley and Earnie hadit. Top place.
Red Cat nr crank
chicago rocks good but they dont serve guiness, but they have all these pictures of the beatles and the stones and the who but no way do they play their music.the chicago rocks a nice place but it dont rock
Chicargo Rock, Yates's, Forrum 44 and the superb "BAR X" Finally a place where you can dance to modern dance tunes. A slice a Liverpool Scouse House has been delivered with stlye, without the fear of getting your head kicked in. This place is really nice and modern with two floors, nice people and a great DJ on Friday and Saturday nights playing the best bouncy tunes and modern chart! BLOW MY WHISTLE BITCH!!!!!
the bullion is ace and forem 44 is the limit
nelson- sound, forum- wheres everyone gone, bullion- too old now, buzbys- not bad

Weaterspoons is ace in my opinion.....those who moan about no music will be outweighed in terms of cheap decent pints (no watered down here).. plus u have the chance to chat and listen to music later on in he night.. CJ
TOPLESS BARMAIDS IN THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE, YELLOW ROSE. BUZBYS, RENDEVOUS, THE PHEONIX - NO OTHER TOWN HAS THESE PUBS
Gerard Arms when it's full of pissed up teachers from Cowley.
The bullion..what a dive but for a treble and splash at £2.80 you'll soon be too pissed to notice the state of the place anyway they've tried to do it up just look at those trendy wicker chairs....
Hartley's and the Tudor House
gerard arms, good place for meeting friends, Chicargo rock (if it counts as a pub) is the best place in town in the moment!
Forum 44 1998 world tour continued.... Jameso!
the forum 44 when it was the bank cool night out
Yates, Chicargo Rock, Nelson, Lincoln, Forum, Bear and Barrow, Or if you are really classy The Landings, Lamb or the Bullion. But where evr you go your guaranteed a laugh and usual a friendly welcome ! Just avoid Crystals dodgy!!!!
Who said St.Helens was Shit? -
Forum 44, Bar X, Weatherspoons, Chigago Rock, Yates's, Dali Bar, WA10 do I need to continue? Just open your eyes all you who think you know a good place when really your eyes are full of shite
Has to be The Royal Alfred early 90s. Fantastic. Get pissed and then outside for a grope with your maths teacher.
I wouldnt spit on bar x and ITS contents of snobby fat FOOLS.THEY WANT TO GET A LIFE AND REALISE THEY ARE STOOD IN ST HELENS,THE TURD PIT OF THE UK AND NOT IN A DESINGNER BAR IN MILAN.
The Beechams Bar and Brewery( under the beechams clock tower in westfield street) is a crackin little pub it makes its own real ale and recently came second in the Liverpool beer festival, the barman Paul is a sexy bast*rd and is currently looking for someone toplay with so give him a shout. Also its full of students and some off the female students r well worth a look
the sutton oak is run by a dirty middle aged slut who looks like a man, I kid u not.The landlord is a terminal twat and lets just say some off the locals should ave been in the legue of gentlemen
teh duke street shuffle is a must for all local revellers. You start in the lingholme( shithole, strange bar staff) then go to the sportys(shit ale but a top dukebox)then the rifle hotel ( shithole fequented by benefit scroungers and old tarts) then Tapas bar( class bar top ale top food but a little to packed at times) Bar Jaxx ( new bar no life in it but ales alright) then the duke of cambridge( not bad ok ale nice middle age whores go in here) then 2 the landings this is full of pissheads who have just got their giros and like listening 2 pap irish bands. THIS THEN TOWN, HOW CAN ANYONE SURVIVE.
The best build up to nexus is...sefton,nexus bar, westfeilds, then dali bar.The dali bar is just great wham is always being played whooooo!!!
BULLION(OR SWINGIN TIT) IS A LAUGH, NOT SURE IF THERE CROWD IS ILLIGAL DUE TO THE WATERD DOWN ALE
Don't go in Joker's, it's full of Derby Hillers!
Eagle + Child not bad for a quiet drink now and again. I mean quiet :)
the bullion is a dive, like all other pubs in the town centre. but we still go don't we?
barx~(new)....bullion(top pub).....the lamb(2nd best pub)hen and chicks(superb)
Many pubs in St Helens operate a 'no moustache, no entry' door policy.
Go to Buzzby,s and have a cheap pint of beer in a dirty glass. Before entering the pub though, get somebody to kick all your teeth out, tattoo you, and make you smell. Then you'll look the part.
Java bar on westfield street, ask for Jackie (even though its not her real name)
GLASSMAKERS ARMS SUTTON: Under new management sorry owners used to be a good pub with good entertainment on a sat/sunday disco. What happend to Mike who used to run the pub.
He was friendly, pleasant, and single every girls dream, well mine anyway.
If anyone knows were he is tell him he's missed.
british lion toll bar because/ ?
My pub routine is Bear adn barrow, Lincoln for a screaming orgasm, nelson, bullion sin bin and then the nexus. What a night!
the gerard arms in windle is the best pub in town, with a decent crowd and a good atmosphere and no scumbags like you get in the usual town pubs
The Gerrard.........not sure why it was so popular but it was a good place to catch up with people.
Forum44, Bullion,
Forum is full of kids and snotty cows. The Nelson is full of pool tables,Im sorry but who wants to play pool on a night out.It is impossible to get a drink in The Market Place. There may be all these new wine bars but who actually goes in them they have no atmosphere at all !!!
The Sutton Oak, Bold Road, St. Helens, where mine hosts Tony & Anne will serve you with Traditional Cask Conditioned beer, with Boddingtons Bitter and Websters Yorkshire Bitter always on tap. This is probably the only Pub in the area STILL serving cask conditioned mild, and Theakstons at that. With a sizable beer garden, GIANT television screen, and bar meals we've got something to please everyone
check this out on a saturday night the Bowling Green robins lane sutton
great kareoke brilliant friendly atmosphere. Quiz nights on thursdays.
Tapas bar in Duke Street. 70's Music, mainly Abba , in lovely darkened taverna style surroundings. Sunbathing facilities for the odd day that the weather mimics the Spanish. Friendly staff, regular food and GREAT BAPS behind the bar!
The Glassblowers!!!!
The Bear and Barrow, The SinBiN and the Sefton b4 Nexus
Does anyone remember the Primrose? Ex landlord being non other than Roy Matthias. Not a bad pint and a good crack
The Forum 44 has great music and is good for a laugh before you go clubbing and Sin Bin the new bar is great always has lot's of saint's players in there
The Royal Alfred, Sportsmans on a Wednesday - sadly full of 15yo's in "KORN" T-shirts (Isn't it ironic that KORN have no adult fans - a bit like Steps really!)
Forum 44 used to be the top place on a thurs night, until they stopped having WKD for 1.50, nexus cafe bar is smart, though, and has cheap drinks if u can put up with people singing bon jovi all the time on the karaoke, get back to the bullion, (bullion has a new carpet and chairs that must be from a garden centre or thriftys or something)
You've got to like Buzby's for Irish Rover at last orders.
The Rifle....The Globe.......The Ship Inn
The woodlands free pooltables as its always empty.
You can't beat the Sefton! and Tracey is a top bar maid.
The Wheatsheaf on westfield street, because you can get REAL beer ie Ruddles county , Theakstones `old peculiar' . And the landlord knows his stuff , doesn't water down the beer and cleans his pumps. God I cant stand Lager or Greenalls bitter (which incidentally started orignally in St Helens, before it moved to Warrington.) Greenalls now don't even make there own beer any more, which is as well cos it tastes like its been through the digestive tract of a labrador. This last statement is true of ANY beer that's brewed in Warrington. The only decent pint brewed locally is Caines in Liverpool and because most of the pubs in ST Helens are tied to Greenalls or Whitbread(just as bad) you just cant get a decent pint.
Golden Lion in Rainford. Well we lived there anyway. Try Gerard in Dentons Green.
What can I say.. Things have improved, We have Nexus wine bar and Westfields.
If you ever in THATTO HEATH, pop in and see Joe and Jenny. They also have a lovely Barmaid call DEB: CHEAP beer and good music and lots good conversation
The Elephant in Thatto Heath is a Good Pint and lots of Music and Good CROWD
The Black Bull, next to the Saints ground - its like two pubs in one. One half's a dump and the other's posh (but you have to pay 2p extra per drink for the privilige of drinking in there)
Buzbys pub nice friendly place full of Thatto Heathers, by the way Thatto Heath was once known as That Way To Heath, (but the letters on the sign fell off the sign post to read Thatto Heath).
sportsmans inn duke st, rock night every wednesday night, soul, northern and tamla every sunday night
The Windle on Hard Lane has some really great food, drink, oh and excellent staff. A must for young and old alike
The Pig,in Sutton,a pub that literally is full of pigs that need a Good Swill !
The Gerard Arms has ad a bit of a face lift and has since lost it's atmosphere. Still it's a good pub for meeting up in before you trot off into town.
The new Bear & Barrow is a good place for meeting up in, in the centre of town. There are lots of good looking girls in there, everything is nice and clean and if you're not old enough to get in then there is always the Forum about 100yds away.
THe Gate is the number 1 pub, the regulars are good bunch, and it serves meals as well as beer. Beware that you don't get hustled on either the pool table or the dart board though as there are some shady characters.
The Alfred , The Gerard ( beatnik heaven on Sundays )
Check out The Mill House near Sherdley Park in Sutton to see Julia the best looking barmaid in the north of England
The Windle Hotel in Hard Lane - where I live
The Abbey, Bull and Dog, Gerrard Arms out of town. Sefton & Nelson in town.
The Turks Head - Cooper St. Cheap and EXCELLENT ale, a landord and landlady who are the epitome of domestic harmony; and a welcome safe haven from the antics of the pie eating lager swilling nurks who inhabit the town centre pubs every night after 20:00.
Brown Edge, Nutgrove - a real local's pub and home to a number of sports teams including the infamous Prescot RUFC
Jokers is a great pub in the town centre......good fun....brill atmosphere!!!
The Yellow Rose has an "interesting" Friday night show. It's on North Road.
Good pubs if you don't mind the Trevs everywhere... The Gerard Arms is the pub to go in if you want a good nights drinking. Forum 44, Lincoln Square, Sefton, Alfred, Lingholme, Nelson.

cassandras coffee is as weak as p##s, if your posh you go to tyres
woolies for a quick brew and a fag..
Coffee makes me shit like a baby
Best of the lot was "The Caff" on Duke street/Crab street. In 1985-87 they did the best chip barms in the land...BAR NONE!!! A woman called Doreen used to make them. If she was off though, the owner Ian made them. Ahhh, I can see it now....Me and my mate Gaz poppin' 10p coins in the "Double Dragon" machine as if they were going out of fashion, while Tarzan boy, Madonna's Holiday etc were being played on the juke box. Brilliant.
THEY STINK OF PIES AND SO DO THE SCRUFFY IDIOTS IN THERE
We want more cafe bars and coffee shops
HOOBY DO, WHICH IS VERY CHEEZY

Asda coffee shop is fantastic! 65p for a cappacino! and the foods cheap too.
loads of Coffee Shops, I like the Patisserie near Marks and Spencer
