Skateboarding Spots

  • That Victoria square statue which conveniently doesn't get cleaned up by the Council, and the same council who want the statue to get vandalised so that Victoria Square can be renamed to Cllr Marie Rimmer Square.
  • thiers one in vicky park which looks o.k. full of orbs with skateboards
  • Vicky park
  • there is a skate park at vicky park - a bit basic but better then nothing
  • Victoria park Have Ramps For skateboarding
  • I don't skate but theres that skate ramp thing at Viccy park int there.
  • the little park opposite the train station i think it's called friends corner
  • Windermere Ave we go on our skateboard, better when it snowed ther'd b and we'd bout 20 kids taged on back No23 r No24 bus going down .
  • the council being as 'with it' as they are built a skatepark in victoria park, which happens to be much more scally-infested than skater-infested really. cud'v done with it being in eccleston personally, even tho i dont live in eccleston! plus its not been ther long n already its been chewed up by the scallies like a slipper given to a puppy. best stickin to the town centre and the car parks.
  • asda carpark after its shut. and the college carpark as well. by the town hall is the best place though. and theres a spot between asda and the ymca. its a brown church with steps and stuff. its really awesome. and the old petrol station up chain lane by the co op.
  • taylor park paddling pool resurfaced great banks and hips
  • i loved my mini yellow skateboard when i was younger! someone nicked it :'( victoria parks brill for skateboarder's at the top of north rd
  • Everyone just admit it....... Skateboarding in St. Helens absolutely SUCKS. The councils skatepark is shite and most things they do are. wat wankers.....
  • victoria park. top of north rd. duh, something that LOOKS like a skatepark.6 foot tall,12 foot wide quaters with a 1,5 foot tall "3 wide driveway?????? two small l shaped blocks(low side, big side) in realy daft positions. mini ramp.hmmmmm.st helens council too blame, everyone should skate the town square memorial more. hope someone from the town hall tells you off, pretend you cant understand what they are telling you, whilst acting like you know exactly whats going on,when they become confused ,walk away and shout "HOW DOES IT FEEL" .
  • good to skate over the old garage in haydock (near coral)
  • Great place to skate- Blue rales/ Hobo Heaven. Just near st.helens world of glass.
  • I had a skateboard years ago (1987). I thought I was gonna get the shit kicked out of me..... I still love skating, but I wouldn't dream of doing it in St H.
  • outside day and nite
  • the two best spots in st helens are but within a stones throw from each other. asda. lots of ledges, wooden and concrete. banks on top of curb. big long metal curb near petrol pumps.lots of big and small drops. college. lots of luverly ledges. nice car park with gaps.
  • They r buildin a big skate park in victoria park, hmmm cant see it lasting long
  • sherdley park
  • st.julies thats pretty much it
  • The ramp at sherdley park is now totally screwed. There are holes in it, and bits are starting to fall off.
  • Down Leslie road dodging grannies
  • world of glass, that big rail and the market across from there skate down them big things
  • The town hall and opposite "the world of glass" outside the market
  • Dont know of any and would die if there was ever an offical one!! this is how st helens gets it bad names..we could never have a president at this rate!"!!
  • RareUnit mini at Sherdly Park been re surfaced recently with stainless steel which has removed the rip yer trucks from yer board kinks, and is VERY smooth considering. Only a wise choice though when its not been raining for say about two weeks as its totaly surrounded by grass and mud and yell also probably have to beat off the townies and gippo kids with a broken stick.
  • the church
  • PERHAPS YOU COULD SKATE OVER THE HUGE BULGING PIE FILLED BELLIES OF THE LOCALS. THEY WOULDN'T FEEL IT (IF THEY COMPLAIN JUST GIVE EM A PIE)
  • is that ramp still up in sherdley, that was really popular wasnt it ???
  • Newton skatepark - metal Freestyle built ramps and obstacles on tarmac surface. 4ft mini escalates to 6 ft, 2 fun boxes, various quarters including a tightly hipped one. sick metal kicker, solid bench and flat bar. certainly worth popping by for a trundle if you're nearby. get down on a weekend to skate with Woz, Buska, Rich, Shovels and Joeyteacher.
  • Wigan and Leight council just put in this shit hot new installment of stone beches at the top of the high street, pretty well waxed, and that kerb behind Alan's is pretty kewl.
  • the only place i can think of is sherdley park, and thats not much good
  • Try the East Lancs.
  • The new paved area in fornt of the Town Hall?
  • Rainhill! It's all it is good for though.
  • Newquay has a few nice ones ... ooh thats surf boards! well nice thought anyway.
  • OK, so no-one's updated this for some time, this is the crack. Indy Joes mini ramp is a fun device out back of the shop in Haydock. Apparently a new outdoor park is planned for the end of february in Newton le Willows. Some interesting looking lozenge concrete benches in town centre, though no-one ever seems to have skated them so far.
  • Bleakhill school circa 1980. Green Kryptonics etc but we moved to the slopes beside the manchester computer centre in 1983. Now flaneur-ing with on-line skates in Paris 8th arr.
  • The railway bridge at Carrmill Dam
  • Try Chocky Hill. I used to BMX it.
  • Also the town centre is ok on week nights and Sunday afternoons, main hook-up spot and scene of most of the action is the Safeway curbs, right in the centre of town. Car-park banks 45 degrees to platform/vert lip/ wall. Safeway car-park has various types of curb. Transitioned cobbled banks 3-4' high to vert. Rad steps next to Church in town centre. Loading bays behind car-parks with four acid drops. Plenty of benches, walls etc.
  • Lingholme Estate: Opposite car wash, behind where Exotic Pets was: banks; 2-4' high, 45 degrees and about 50' long. Not brilliant but..
  • Sherdley Park: Rareunit 16' mini still very rideable but a bit kinked in places. To get to it you should ask for directions to Sherdley park (no shit!) as eveyone knows where it is as it hosts the biggest free show in Europe every year on the last weekend in July.
[1997:] The ramp's now looking very tired.
  • If yer' lucky you might get to skate the Crowson mini in nearby Rainhill, 3ft metal surface fun device, undoubtedly the best ramp in St. Helens.
  • Best places now [1997] to skate are found at the new college 'technology campus': concrete driveways, brick hip-type thing and ultra smooth flat with some neat little drops and gaps.

Skateboard Shops

  • Hmm, somewhere in Wigan I guess.
  • go to mr darwins we love you mate
  • darwins is a skate shop in st helaens by the train station
  • manchester there are loads of shops to many to name it's £3/£4 for a childs return ticket and about £4.50 for an adult!! but your only on the train for 1/2 an hour!
  • i can't/don't skate but i've seen sk8board equip in darwins music shop if no-one knows about it already! coudn't tell u whether its good for reliability or prices though
  • crazy john sells skateboards in his dads music shop, its fully ligit, the music shop right near the train station in st helens town centre go there n ask fr crazy john, his prices are crazy ha
  • Venturas in billinge.
  • The one in the palace in Liverpool does really good clothes, and the one in quiggins too. Get your vans online though, they're well cheaper, or cheshire oaks.

  • ALL ABOARD SKATEBOARD SHOP IN PARR
  • THERE WAS ONE IN HAYDOCK WHICH WAS BUILT WHEN THAT SNOWDOME THING WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BUILT BUT OF COURSE OUR FANTASTIC COUNCIL DECIDED TO SPEND THERE MONEY ON KNOCKING DOWN HOUSES AND BUILDING EVEN MORE PUBS SO IT WENT OUT OF BUSINESS AND SHUT DOWN.
  • Alan's my friend...It has everything
  • Newquay has a few nice ones ... ooh thats surf boards! well nice thought anyway.
  • Indy Joes Pleasure Dome, Haydock. Fairly new still, has a ramp out back. More snowboard orientated but the guys there are OK and it has a mini ramp out back.
  • I have a nephew who lives in St.helens and he has an interest in RollerBlading I think this would be nice to have and also an icerink and Cinema..Why do we have to go to Warrington, I would go to the pictures alot more if we had one in town.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about St Helens. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in St Helens.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
