Food
Food Restaurants, take aways etc. On the Western side of Crown point possibly trying to outdo Wilmslow Road. For persons not familiar with Manchester area Wilmslow Rd. has a nick name of being the curry mile with possibly hundreds of eating establishments
Suhag Indian Restaurant in Haughton Green. Lucky Chinese on Taylor Lane
Pubs
The Red Lion serves females BEFORE males even if you arrived before them. Not very good!
The pubs of Denton, well in a word..Pants! Wth one or two exceptions. Noteably : The Angel on Hyde Road, The Fletchers Arms on Stokcport Road.
The rest are local pubs for local people. Don't upset the locals, by talking to them, looking at them or indeed looking in their general direction. There's a great comment above about the Toll Point being friendly...Hmmm I don't think so. I've seen manay a fight in there. In fact one bloke who had a fight in there a while back, was murdered shortly after leaving the place, by two idiot locals, with a hammer.
The other pub of note is the Coach and Horses. If there was a prize for smelliest pub of the year, this place would win hands down. It stinks. Not sure what of, but believe me, it's rank. Now this is another "local" pub. I was once asked to leave for talking, during the pub quiz. Apparently you can only sit in there during pub quiz night, if you remain quiet. I've heard of going for a quiet drin, but that's just plain madness.
My advice..Don't go drinking around Denton, unless you really have to.
We don't call the place "dumpton" for nothing you know!!
Red Lion on a Sunday afternoon.
They either have an artist on or Karaoke.
By far the busiest pub in Denton on a Sunday afternoon.
The toll point in denton is the busiest pub in the area and ver safe and friendly. The late licence where you can drink till 1am obviuosly brings the odd drunk but the fast friendly security staff always try to prevent such happenings and vey rarely are required for trouble. The fast efficient bar staff serve customers with a smile and quick as possible due to the amount of customers they have to serve. Get to the 'tolly' for a asfe trouble free lively weekend night out - TOP TOLLY
Valentine's Disco Friday 14th Feb at the Bowling Green Pub. Disco with Graham. Contact Cath 335 0283.
I don't believe The Toll Point warrants such a fleeting mention, the establishment is an absolute must for any visitors to Denton, It is the place for anyone who wants their personal space invaded by drunken criminals and manhandled by unmarried mothers. Marvel as the big hand on the clock behind the bar travels 3/4's of the way round while you wait in the free-for-all that is 'trying to get served'. The DJ hasn't bought a CD since 1994, but that won't stop him trying to damage your ears with Alex Party & Culture Beat.
ps. Don't let the recent hammer murder outside 'The Tolly' put you off your visit, they got him.
Owing to possible infringement with th lawe! The Kings Head a Pinacle of a place is now closed, Full Stop! As is much of the rest of Denton
Pubs :- yes lots, in the main selling inconsistent to poor quality beers at exorbitant prices. The hostelries in the main look tired & shabby. Some bordering on possible breaches of Health & Hygiene Legislation. Tended by weary staff that don’t really wont to be there & show it. Management with split personalities, [talk one day and next you’re the invisible man or woman!] some frequenting other pubs more than there own and old hat entertainment! A breath of fresh air from the Med! The Big Chap! Good inexpensive Beer, Good food. Clean / well furnished / decorated surrounding and good entertainment Wed. Sat & Sun.
Big Chapel House. Little Chapel House. 3 X Jolly Hatters Pubs. The Angel. Tollpoint.
Crown Point (originally the Kings Head), the Red Lion and the Toll Point.
