Food
topkapi is fabitty AND not to expencive!
Topkaki has good choice for vegetarians
Some really good kebab take-aways, but you are better off going slightly down the rd, and into longsight, where the best Kebabs in the world are served at mirage kebab house. be careful u don't get yourself shot though!
Loads of take aways. For burgers and pizzas, the Canadian Charcoal Pit is wonderful. His burgers are the best in South Manchester. For curries, Bombay Spice is wonderful and very accomodating and will deliver until the early hours of the morning. For kebabs, Red Cherry does some of the finest Seek Kebabs I've ever tasted. Really really nice, though spicy. The Chinese near the Railway Pub is pretty good - nothing fancy, but nice.
Levenshulme's most upmarket restaurant is 'That Cafe', which is right down at the South end of the Village, near the Vets. It's VERY expensive for Manchester(ie between £12 and £15 for a main course) and a bit overly middle-class. And be warned - the menu (though delicious) is very specific. If you're a picky eater, phone and check first.
Tokapi - excellent kebab shob. Great kobida kebabs.
Numerous chippys.
Pubs
most of the pubs about levenshulme are no go areas if u dont have a group of 25 people to defend u from the friends of the guy u luked at for 20 seconds in "that" way!
Horshoe at the start of Chapel st, off Stockport rd, is a very friendly pub. Unfortunately no real ale but a good pint of guinness
To be avoided, the pubs are either closed down or run by protection rackets.
Pubs in Levenshulme are not quite as welcoming as in other parts of the City, with a few exceptions. The Farmers Arms at the top end (near the Charcoal Pit) is easily the friendliest, by not just just miles but light years. It may look a bit unforgiving, but it's OK. Previous landlady Kim was a diamond and the new boss Jack is a decent bloke. The Weekend discos are ear drum shatteringly loud, so best to go in the week.
Across the road 'The Midway' has a late licence at weekends, but the crowd can be a little lively. As for other pubs in the area ... and I'll mention no names ... but they should be avoided like the plague. Signs on stairs in these places frequently read "mind your knuckles".
The Ceili House - quite good.
The Pack Horse
Hennigans Sport Bar - packed (often with locals only), but cheap beer offers and loads of sport on tv.
Cafes and Coffee Shops
I have to correct the person who said there are no coffee shops in Levenshulme. Actually one has opened lately and it serves cappucinos, lattes, paninis and other similar stuff. It's called Cody's and is opposite the antiques village and is very nice. I think the fact that it has some customers is a sign of Levenshulme's gentrification.
that cafe is kinda pricy and v.specific but has really gud food!
Lots of run down Irish cafes, reek of elderly people, avoid!
Loads of greasy spoons ... the one in the Antiques Village is the best, by a long chalk, though the Cladagrrghghggaghhh (whatever, you'll know which one I mean) is very cheap and has a good range of meals. There's no cafe bars or coffe shops though.
