Levenshulme, Greater Manchester Triumphs and Tragedies

Favourite Building
there are some nice houses down Albert rd way.
The old Town Hall. The old Railway Station is quite nice, but falling down as the letting agents are blatently charging too much.
Demolish It Now Building
Most of the district needs the plug pulling on it, to be honest
Almost all of it. To be perfectly honest, 85% of Levenshulme is a hell hole. The problem is that when they do knock something down (like the old Police Station), no-one wants to buy the land so it just becomes a fly tip. Which I can assure you, is a HUGE problem in Levensulme.
The Best Things
Very friendly place with good community spirit.
cheap booze from the off-licenses, good variety of food (indian, greek, turkish)
close to city centre
Extremely easy to get to from city centre, the legendary 192 bus runs all day and night for a quid, so you can stay out as long as you want without having to worry bout expensive taxi fare home.
It's cheap. £70 a week for a three bedroomed house. That's it. If you can put up with the area, the gangs of kids, the endless stream of poverty that engulfs the area, then you're sorted.
Close to the centre
The Worst Things
everything else
The kids are all vile, loudmouthed thugs but I blame the parents
It's really poor. It's not the worst area of Manchester (like Beswick, Bradford, Collyhurst or all of North Manchester), but no-one has any money here. Kids get kicked out of their houses after breakfast and told not to come back until bedtime. There's rubbish everywhere. There's one decent pub. The 192 bus into town is incredibly erratic - the archetypal 'five come at once then none for an hour' thing.
Drunken yoofs
Hardcore raging drug/gang/innocent taxi driver gang war.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
