Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
Paignton is not the best place for a night out, it used to be fantastic about 5 years ago but gone a bit down hill since then. If you're out with people who know how to have a laugh then you can have a fab night out. Paignton is best probably on a fri night and sat night is better for torquay. Again Spinning wheel is a favourite, Isaac Merritts (weatherspoon), The central, the gallery - which is mainly full of teeny boppers and not that busy although its getting slightly better, the lighthouse, fairly quiet in the winter but when it gets packed there is no air conditioning so if you want to sweat loads then go there - it gets way too hot, its a bit of a dive nowadays but depends what your into. Its expensive and they do charge on the door at weekends...i wouldnt pay to get in there! Not unless I really have to. Remedies, I avoid whenever I can, it doesnt get very busy but when it does its full of scroats and weird people, they do drinks offers but atmosphere wise its very lacking.
Crazy Horse Saloon, The Lighthouse
Crazy Horse - good selection of music and fun place to go!
that gothic place hideaways is shut right? i fink them scruffy boys go to hot rock now where all them sluts are at
The Cave is a cool hang out. Its beneath the Beach Bar on Paignton seafront opposite the cinema. Thursday nite is jam nite so anyone who wants 2 have a go just go down. Friday-Sunday nites are rock nites which r cool 2.
The Monastery in Torquay has become famous and one will have to queue even in the wintertime. Unlike so many nightclubs it is not owned by gangsters, quick rich merchants, and wide boys. Starts at 00:00 Saturday night and ends Sunday morning at 07:00. Can you last that long?
The Fiesta Inn is now called Sport XS, and the club upstairs is called Club XS. The Mermaid's club (formerly Slammers) is now called The Void. The Spinning Wheel is great for live music, and all ages (don't let this put you off, it's brill..)
"The Monastry" For high power rave music and those not short of natural energy
Kristy's in station square is currently the favourite, followed by The Impacto in the Fiesta on the seafront. If you want a good night out - go to Torquay!
Live Music Venues
The Spinning Wheel on seafront has great music, often rock, but best I've found in Paignton
The best place for live bands is the Spinning Wheel on the sea front...they have live music 7 days a week with a different act on every night..sometimes they even have tribute bands. It's expensive for drinks but then you get it in most places in town. Generally a good atmosphere, pool table, smoking facilities, food etc Another is the lime tree, they have karaoke and sometimes bands but you get some very strange people in there so I tend to avoid it.
UPDATE: THe HALF MOON changed hands and no longer has live music.
the Embassy tavern has entertainment every night from may to sept, and during all the bank holidays.
the music is aimed at the over thirtys, the atmosphere is great and the food they serve is very cheaply priced. get in early if you want a seat!!!
for more details visit thier website at www.theembassytavern.co.uk
The Spinning Wheel, The Half Moon
Half Moon - great live music every weekend, mostly free, good parking and nice food too.
The Half Moon in Preston/Paignton have some fab bands on weekly, they have a website, and most of the emtertainment is FREE!
Palace Avenue theatre, just round the corner from Winner Street.
The Cave, I just told u all about it!
Spinning Wheel Paignton is a great venue - live music every night...check it out!!
Paignton Parish Church, Church Street, Paignton. Friday Lunchtime Organ Recitals given by Gareth Perkins, MA, BA(Hons), FLCM, LRSM, ARCM each Friday lunchtime 1.15p.m.-1.55p.m. Mid-April until the end of October each year. Classical organ music. Admission free.
The Spinning Wheel pub on the seafront has local bands playing most nights. The Torbay Leisure Centre has the occasional well known band playing (although very rare).
Cinemas
Appolo Cinema
Apollo Cinema, the biggest cinema in Torbay
Apollo - clean, big and good access for people with disabilities.
apollaaa
Theres the Apollo cinema but thats expensive so apart from that go 2 Torquay for bowling and MEGAZONE!!
Apollo Cinema - Paignton Seafront is absolutely superb. Its not just a nine screen multiplex, its an experience. the staff are great fun, dressing up for big films, they decorate the public areas, have charity events and its NOT too expensive really - £5.30 / £3.80 for comfort, excellent vision and surround sound....you can't beat it !!!
Big Multiplex opened last summer on Paignton Seafront (used to be Festival Theatre) - very good.
There's a new nine screen cinema which is good, but as £5 for a ticket is
way out of the price league for those poor "Devon folk" then it'll probably shut
within 18 months due to a lack of revenue over the 'low season'
New Multiplex just opening on the sea front. Should be good.
