Food

  • zing great food, wine and service
  • The Laughing Buddah in East Street gives and alternative Thai option to the River Kwai. This was previously the Marakesh Indian Restaurant.
  • From the carfax have Boots on your left and walk out towards the little stretch of duel carrage way. Cross over and straight opposite to the right of a little car park is a small road. Down there on the left hand side is a top indian, good food (chicken Jalfrazzi is tops)and they often give you a brandy on the way out. OK I now the cost is hidden in your nann but a nice idea. The staff don't rush you either which is a common thing I have found in indians.
  • Paninos are a bit expensive, go to the Candy Box were they sell Panino sandwiches for cheaper
  • I luv this site, its great, but the info about the mongolian restaurant is now incorrect because about 2 years ago it became ANOTHER indian restaurant! called the raj kumar, they have a great all you can eat buffet!
  • Mongolian Experience now an upmarket Indian. Pizza hut in The Crown pub, very smoky and dodgy customers. About 8 Indians, 2 Chinese, 2 Thai, 3 Pizza, 2 Italians, Merrythought in the Bishopric for a hilariously old fashioned experience.
  • Bishopric - 1 takeaway curry, 1 takeaway chinese, 1 kfc, 1 kebeb house, 1 fish and chip shop, on off license, all within spitting distance of each other
  • curry houses
  • Macdonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut in 'The Crown' No good chinese takeawys in the town centre, look on the outskirts. Indian takeaway by the Iron bridge.
  • River Kwai is a very appealing Thai restaurant in market square, near the old town hall and near to Bar Vin a popular wine bar on the corner of East Street.
  • If you want a bite after the pub check out Les'& Arthur's Burger Van at Horsham Station. A good selection of Hot Dogs and Burgers. Look out for the Les special! The Kentucky at Bishopric stays open till 12, but renowned for rowdies and 'Punch ups'. Other good places are Vines kebab shop. Ask to speak to Resate Gondogado. There are the normal selection of Curry Houses. Lastly for the best food in Horsham check out Roffey Griddle. Open 7 days a week, has the best seltion of fry ups you can imagine. I recomend the No. 4 breakfast.
  • Horsham has:- 5 Indian Resteraunts, The Mongolian Experiance (where you get to break your plates after the meal & then dance on the resulting debris), 2 Italian/Pizza Resteraunts,
  • Good selection from around the world
  • Queens Head (excelent sunday Lunch Cisswood House Hotel and Restaurant
  • Ask Palo at the till in Wimpys for "no ice" and you get so much more drink.

Pubs

  • The Merry Monk has at last been rescued and is now the Coot again. It has been taken over by a guitar wielding Irishman and it is better than ever. Live music going on nearly every night - fantastic. Over 21s only.
  • Update: The Horse and Groom now has a great new Manager, young, good looking and enthusiastic. Definitely not dodgy now!!
  • Lynd Cross. Those new to the pub experiance-also new to the life experiance so expect the odd drunken revalry. I have been offered a fight because of the jumper I was wearing. This attitude says it all. Cheap drinks though, and if they managed to get a music licience I expect it would be more enjoyable. Despite the excitable boys it is always packed out and I think the bouncers do a good job. If you fancy your chances against the bum fluff sporting lads there are often quite few nice lay-dees too. Bar Vin is a big open plan bar and seems to attract the business man straight from work. Give the impression of being full of high flyers and big earners, truth is more likely tele sales staff! Busy on Friday and Saturday but a good place for a drink mid week. If Milf's are you thing you will love this place :o) B52's has a DJ and a selection of cocktails. Also sells Absinthe an evil drink which knocks you sideways. It's £5 a shot but the results are interesting! You can sit out side in Summer and occasionally attractions like unrideable bulls are hired in. Doesn't seem to be regulars but everybody seems to go there at some point in their evening. The don't give you the rest of your can when you order a Vodka Redbull a bit tight as they are expensive n there. The Crown has a reputation as a bit rough, but I have been in there and acted a total fool and no one has ever said a word, people seem friendly enough, not sure if it deserves it's rep. Green Dragon all ways end up here at the last stop busy but tables out side, people seem friendly and there is a good atmosphere. Strange beer selection no Stella in this pub but a good equivalent called Premium????
  • Piries, the smallest toilets in the world. Girls get one cubicle, blokes get a crapper and two urinals all next to each other
  • Queens Head, Horsham. One of the more local come traditional pubs in Horsham that offers fantastic food and a relaxed atmosphere. Cheap double bar!!!!
  • Tut & Shive is now the Horse & Groom again, still just as dodgy!
  • Lynd X - Marvelous pub, big picture windows means you can sit outside on a balmy summer night watching it all kick off inside. Clientel has recently become a bit more mature, owing to the amount of plod nearby these days. Crown - No idea usually too rat faced b4 I go in (note for those from out of town : this is usually the best way)
  • ones with lots og grog
  • Good bar grub at the Green Dragon lunchtimes. They have a smoke free conservatory too.
  • Queen's Head Pub is a great place if you like to watch locals play American Cricket darts. Do not take Brian's stool unless you like corn. Do not discuss gays or drugs with Carl unless you have a 5th degree black belt. If there was a Stoneage pub this would be it.
  • Millions of pubs. The Lynd Cross is a Whetherspoons pub so has no music but in the evenings it is so packed with 18 year olds you wouldn't notice. When you turn 19 you go to the Green Dragon next door. Also very busy, then you later progress to the crown opposite Burger King. The police wanted The Crown shut down for roudyness, but it is still there.
  • Greebn Dragon and Lynd cross most popular, The Crown is a bit rough.
  • Queen's Head Pub. Just ask for Ken and Barbie if you can find them. Good for robbing fruit machines because windows are left open. No chance of a late one anymore. Malicious local gossip. Food is mediocre. Quiz machines set to pay out at 42%. Go to Piries.
  • how could anyone forget to mention the merry monk, merryfield drive. just take a step back in time coz the brewery seem to of forgotten to decorate it the last forty years. still it does do good beer at reasonable prices,a pub that used to have a good regular clientele until a previous landlord thought a pub with no customers was better. so if you've got a spare hundred grand come and save this pub with potential or complain to PUNCH TAVERNS about how they have let it slip.
  • B52's was always the hub, but it has lost its atmosphere, just like the town.
  • 'Piries' - big up Graham, Steve and Candy
  • Huge selection. But one does get bored with getting wasted and coming home at half 11. Shellys Nightclub is not worth the effort. I'd rather have go home and enjoy my own company.
  • Bar Vin - corner of Market Square and East Street. Popular with 21-35 age group Expensive beer, best buy is wine by the bottle (no surprises here, then) Recent menu change reduced cheaper snacks..
  • There are lots of these in Horsham - here is a brief summary of a few: Golden Dragon - Good atmosphere on Fridays, mainstream music. 18-24 ish, outside tables in summer by artificial stream/fountain is nice. Lynd Cross - Big, Restaurant there, Smarts on Fridays, 18-40 ish. Crown - Wooden Boards, bit dingy, little girls and drugs, 16-23 ish. Tut 'n' Shrive - Wooden Boards, very dodgy, live DJs, hardcore techno etc. 18-24 The Vin Bar - Yuppy pub, Smarts, Pricey 20-35 ish. The Stout House - Regulars only pub! Comfortable, no loud music, 28-70 ish. The Malt 'n' Shovel - Mainly regulars, strangers grudgingly accepted, all ages, outside tables in summer quite good. The Bedford - Awesome pub for pool. Two excellent quality pool tables and regular competitions. Its £1 a game but the quality makes it worth it. Busy on Fridays and Saturdays, and on most evenings as its just behind the station. All ages. The Station - Nice food, all welcome (quite a few truck drivers dine in as its near a motel), homely atmosphere. The Black Jug - Yuppy pub, pricey, good but expensive food, dress smarts. The Bear - Tends to be a regulars pub. Very small. Gets too crowded on Fridays, nice for a quiet drink otherwise.

Cafes and Coffee Shops

  • zing piries place horshams best kept secret
  • to dear
  • Tons. No need to say where they are, they are wherever you turn.
  • We celebrate the sad demise of 'Fontanas'
  • Christian Cafe. Friday nights feature free food. The price is obvious.
  • Panino sandwich bar in the Carfax (daytime only) is great - excellent coffee and good sandwiches.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...
