Cringing Cult of Celebrity (Famous residents and ex-residents.)

  • THE DELAYS,from Bitterne,you know!
  • Benny Hill was born in Eastleigh just up the road.
  • Rumour has it that Postman Pat was born here... but I have no proof...
  • Adam Gage the "General" still hanging out in clubs now he is in his 40's Sotons best known clubber,Footy supporter etc.
  • david chidgey lived somewhere round here. craig david aswell in some flats.
  • To the person who said the Titanic was built in Liverpool... you're the dumbass! (You should check your facts before you put them down in print you numpty!) The Titanic was built by a company called Harland & Wolff in Belfast but its home port WAS Southampton!
  • Singer-songwriter Helena Costas who goes under the stage name Elenni went to uni here. Aqualung, drummer out of Kosheen, bloke out of EastEnders, etc.
  • Ade Edmonson is probably the most respected, or Benny Hill. The guy who plays Lou Carpenter in neighbours was born here too. Woo.
  • Craig David, the boy from Holy Rood done good, coz it's a crappy estate in the finest traditions of post-war Labour housing appeasement, he did well to get out. Mike Osman, comedian and Capital Radio DJ, the rug wearing side splitter comes from Millbrook as I do,where you either fight or take the p*ss to survive. I've got a broken nose, Ozzy hasn't..
  • Craig David
  • Michael Jackson Clare Grant
  • Richard Parker, cabin boy,who was eaten by the rest of the crew in the south seas. Memorial in Peartree churchyard.
  • Adrian Edmonsdon is from Southampton. Apparently from Weston Park Boys school which explains the bizarre acting roles he always takes up.
  • JOHN STONEHOUSE - Postmaster-General in the Labour govt. of the mid 70's - faked his own death. Went to Tauntons School. MARTIN CHIVERS - Former Saints/Spurs/Norwich and England striker.
  • craig david, nuff said
  • LeTiss, Craig David, Artful Dodger, MC Alistair, Dennis (Sambucca being his latest accelaide!!)
  • Craig 'can't stand his songs' David
  • Mainly music stars. Craig David and the Artfull Dodger were both born here plus a few others
  • Whoever it was that said that the Titanic was from Belfast is also a dumb ass. It was built in Liverpool but had Southampton as its home port (since this is where the 'White Star line' were based)
  • Millais, the famous 19th.C. artist, was a Southamptonian; Jane Austin stayed at St Mary's College when it was a private residence; the Spitfire was designed and built in Southampton; Mott the Hoople were from Southampton; the drummer from Coldplay is from Southampton; Howard Jones was born in Southampton; Patrick Garland, the film producer, went to school at St Mary's College; the Pilgrim Fathers originally sailed from Southampton; King Cnut (Canute)and the tide thought to have occurred here (disputed)
  • Matt Le Tissier has/had a lap dancing down on Oxford St. Fred Dinenage often seen in Tyrrel's.
  • a celebrity of cringe-worthy stauts, Craig David is from the fabulous Holy Rood estate. he still lives there, so anyone with a phone book and enough sense could quite easiy boast "i have craig david's phone number!"
  • Spurs midfielder Darren Anderton went to Bitterne Park school.
  • some spurs players have been seen at Ikon on a wed night!!
  • Craig David and......... Mike Osman
  • Wasn't the Titanic from Belfast you dumb Brit?
  • benny hill was actually from Eastleigh...townies heaven!!!!!!
  • Craig David & Artful Dodger (obviously), the Titanic!
  • Actually, Fred Dineage hails from, (choke), Portsmouth. If I find out which twonk reckons he's a Saint.......
  • The Artful Dodger - UK Garage Remixers, DJ's and Producers Craig David - Vocalist (vocalist on No.2 hit single - Re-rewind)
  • BURREL - FOLLEY - FISHER
  • Mike Osman is from Southampton as well. He's a comedian who also is successful as a DJ on a London radio station. He's also a Saints fan (Southampton FC Football Club) and was a business partner with Saints Legend Matt Le Tissier in the (now closed) Celebration Plaza night club. Francis Benali is the notorious defender with Southampton FC who is from here as well.
  • Fred Dinenage (News reader from Meridian news)
  • Chris Packam off of the Really Wild Show.
  • Bobby Davro
  • Ken Russell, the film director - he made a bizarre short, featuring his mum and his sister, about getting lost in Southampton's one-way system and ending up on the Isle of Wight. When my sister still lived in So'ton she used to see them at the local shops all the time.
  • Benny Hill

Buskers, Street Entertainers

  • Man with Teletubbies. Can't BELIEVE he is still going.
  • Old Jimmy, the Bedford Place drunk is still around. He's this drunk Scotsman with a moustache. Was sory to hear of the passing of the Tyrell & Green Busker.
  • There's a George Harrison type who'll play 'Streets Of London' and 'Hotel California' if you ask him nicely.
  • in the main street in so'ton there is an old dude with his 'one man band'
  • the guy with the teletubbies + elvis cut-outs dancing. great guy!
  • I'm afraid the busker from outside tyrell & green's died a few years ago - or so I believe. But the man with the teletubbies is good.
  • Whatever happened to the Tyrell & Green busker? There was a long-haired bloke with a guitar who used to busk outside the Tyrell & Green department store.
  • Weird bloke who stands outside River Island with an accordian and lifesize cardboard cutouts of the Teletubbies which dance.
  • There are normally some fairly average tending to mediochre things occur on the High Street each weekend - that's about it except on the underpass near to St.Mary's (the red light area) where there are some good buskers on occasion, although its not the kind of place you'd want to hang out for very long.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Southampton. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Southampton.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
