Banks Music - classical instruments, sheet music
for guitars and drums; banks', rockola, and MOR music, Acomb Music and Bulmers
What more can I say if you really want pro gear you need to go to Doncaster!
Zack and Lloyd at Rockola are two of the nicest blokes you'll ever meet. They'll sell you a guitar too if a friendly chat is not enough.
There's a few Music Instrument Shops in york.
I bought my guitar at Banks on Museum Street(near te entrance to Museum Gardens).
There are 2 down Fossgate, but i dont know what they're called
Lloyd formerly of MOR has co-run Rockola in Walmgate for years now. Do'nt bother going anywhere else.
There is a good one in Acomb, on the west side of the city, nice bloke, not a rip off. Does PX too
MorMusic not bad. Bulmers good for guitars/amps/car stereos etc..

Banks is alright. Mormusic on Fossgate is too small.

They only sell guitars or piano's. This is no use if you are a drummer - go elsewhere
There's a big one on Lendal, famous apparently.
Banks. Say no more
Best Shop in town is Mor Music, just down the road with the Army and Navy store on the one corner and the Northern wall Pub on the other. Ask to speak to Llyod he's the only one who won't rip you off.

The White Rooms is a superb complex of rehearsal studios. The rooms are big, have great PA's and professional mics. The kits are top quality Mapex and the backline is all Fender, Behringer and Marshall. There's a vending machine for crisps, chocolate and cold cans and free tea and coffee. Dan will help you out with everything you need and can sell you a pack of strings or a pair of drum sticks, etc. The rooms are clean and modern there's disabled access everywhere, a rollerdoor to bring all your gear through and gear storage on site. It's the cheapest place to rehearse as you only pay for the hours you want and will even open up in the middle of the night if you can't get down during the day. There is a huge car park that's totally free and they can record your demo if you book in advance. www.rehearsalrooms.co.uk

YSL is alright for hiring PA, but not great.

Contact Alan Leach, ex-drummer from Shed7, or the guitarist but i can't remember his name
Best rehearsal room in York by a long way is run by a guy called Alex King, it's out near Haxby on a farm. Clean, great PA and it's cheap too.
Village Audio Studio located in Cloughton. A compact but professionally equipped facility biased towards acoustic / singer songwriter artists. Many well known local artists record here ie. Stony.Dave Greaves.Jesse Hutchins.Holly Jazz Lowe. How dare You
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
