Skateboarding Spots
not much to say, 25 years ago york had a good view on skateboarders i was one of them we had a ten foot half pibe two 7ft quarterpipes atached to the back of the half pipe we were nearly finishing a very large bowl when the local drunks smahed the place up we were gutted this park was in the car park over the road from edmond willson baths it was the in place to go not like the kiddy ramps they have at rowntrees park, its about time york council gave york a good skate park with thrills and SPILLS added they would not be disapointed (i would even be prepaired to work there for them) we used to go to the half pipe on a frosty morning with our blow lamps and burn the ice and frost of the half pipe and just skate like loonies we never had no bad injuries a few scrapes but hey its part of life thats the problem with this city its worrid it will get sued all the council has to do is to get the skaters to sign some thing to say thre council will not be liable for any damages and so on, SO COME ON IF YA FROM THE COUNCIL PLZ THINK ABOUT IT THE GUYS NEED A GOOD PARK AND IF IT IS A GOOD PARK IT WILL BE A MONIE EARNER FOR THE CITY ALSO a nice size skate park with a caffe and loo what more would they need to get them of the street they would look after the park as we did i could go on but i dont want to bore you all,HO JUST ONE THING I KNOW I STILL HAVE THE BUG AND I STILL SAY TO THE MISSIS GIVE ME A HALFE PIPE AND I BET I COULD STILL RIDE IT LIKE A GOOD EN BE SAFE GUYS fuzzy
ive lived in york for a LONG time, i know all the best spots to skate....
firstly in acomb, theres morrison run (starting at morrisons carpark, ending on a nearby roof with a killer gap!!) then theres cpp in holgate, a skate heaven, gaps, rails, sets, kurbs, benches, everything!
(there used to be a lil park just near cpp, but it got knocked down because of all the noise there, it was 2 lumpy quaters and a steep-to-fuck manual pad neway, so we dont care!)
back the otherway, there is oaklands school, or 'eddy willo 8' (edmund and wilson leisure center which has a narly 8 set)
theres then college, with many sets, roof gaps, rails, benches, etc etc (a great spot)
just past there is selby humps, concreted mini ramps, covered with graffiti, under the duel-carrigeway, where all the looser townies go to do smack.
back into town theres rowntrees skate park, overrun by dick head bikers, and always wet! then theres argos sets, which is a 12 set rolling onto a 7 set (both with handrails, totally awsome) theres loads of spots once in town...you get kicked off EVERYWHERE you go, so u maybe have time for one shot at a gap etc. (note to reader, if you grind the steps of the minster, you get a huge reaction from the christian folk - full on comedy) theres also banquets, which is unknown but to a few of us, which is a 7 set, with rails and well waxed curbs, in a parking lot - so it keeps you dry and entertained. Theres also station rise benches, which has a supa fast floor, and some sick banks up the side of a building. You'll find me there mostly. Theres also foss islands in town. This are has a skatepark, where you find the york skate team mostly, a multi-story carpark, with lots of gaps, grindpoles and good chases from guards...a definate must! up the other end, theres 2 more spots i like to visit. I belive only me and my boys know of these places, but i will share them. One of them is dier, the spot with the MOST potential out of all of our fellow spots. Near burnholm school, down some back alleys, you ocme out onto some fields, accross from them is a run through some ditches, (similar to the LA river) when looked at from a distance, it seems perfect, theres HUGE banks and bigger gaps! but the problem is, its on camera, and we skated there from about 5 minutes and the farmer came running at us with his shotgun, so we scrammed and never reterned, feel free to go there tho....
The next spot i am dubious about speaking about, as it is my own personal skateheaven....right on my doorstep, gnarly as fudge, a great view, a massive danger factor - and all round the best place to skate, and never be kicked off. On lowfields school roofs. Once up there is a unlimited number of drops, banks, and gaps. We have taken rails up there, aswell as kickers and funboxes, that we make. Basically, it is the most divine place ever. Its basically a giant skatepark on a roof, with a smoothened concrete floor, and asweeping brush to get rid of any puddles. We have covers for all the stuff aswell. We are in the process of transporting a quarter pipe up there to fit next to a wall, which we a dubious about, as it may be to big and be seen by a camera/caretaker etc. I hop my guide to yorks skating has been useful.
My suggestions for great spots are as follows: station rise banks,
argos sets
foss islands skatepark
and lowfields school roofs.
hey, if you skate in the york area, i hop i have helped you with my two new spots btw!
A great skate spot is Sainsbury's carpark,When your at the zoo go up the stairs out side and go down the massive flatbank on the left ,but watch out for police and traffic warden guys.
Across the street from Exit there is a taxi rank go passed the taxi's and you will see a massive flat bank, you gain lots of speed when you skate down, but dont go to the top cos there is always a Policeman
meet jono wright he is the best skater around. he will take u 4 a ride. and u will love it a lot. coz he know all the streat spots
near the cinma legde yousee every one there on a weekend (city screen)
I always hang around rowntree's park, I don't do much skating but its good to see everyone give it there best
There's an area of rowntrees (not the park) that is quite good for skating, just carry on passed the park without getting attacked by townies on their granny-basher bikes who think they can skate.
There are two in the York area, one by Sainsbuy's in town and the othe out towards Pockington - you have to get a bus for that one.
Hand rails: for all you hardcore skaters or scooterers out there, Argos 7 set - not bad a bit short tho. Argos 12 set - nice good for boardslides or noseslides. minster 4 set = very short but cool if u can do it. theres more i just cant remember
the skate park at roundtree park, the zoo (near Sainsbury's), CCP
this aint really a contribution but i think it would be a much more useful website if you didn't just repeat the same spots over and over again there's only so many times you can visit argos ,city screen, rowntrees, argos and city screen in one day.
Definetly go to cbc near the station. you can see it from the bar walls
bigish ledges and afew smallish rails.Hard to sneak in and easily kicked off
theres brick banks near the multi storey car park in stonebow. various steepnesses. also some cool gaps then you can sneak into the carpark for flatground and sloped ledges. behind peacoks in acomb. spare plywood for ramps. nice ledge, 3 set
HAXBY SAFEWAY STEPS (4 SET) HAS BEEN KNOCKED DOWN BECOZ OF ALL THE TOWNS RECKING IT, BARKLYS BANK IS A GOOD PLACE TO GO THERE IS A 3 SET AND A 2 GOOD 4 STARTERS AND BEHEIND CO-OP IN HAXBY ASWELL THER IS GOOD FLAT SPACE AND A FEW BANKS
cpp in holgate, city screen, argos, the zoo skate park, riverside skatepark in rowntrees park
The Uni is a good place if you can outrun the porters, don't go if you can't jump stairs and grind, if you can its good, but the porters really don't like skaters, they'll stop at nothing to get you, so go in a big group of 5 or 6 so you can split up and give em the runabout.
The zoo! and B&Q is pretty good, there's a bit you can wallride, and you can ollie crates e.t.c, but warch out for cars and trolley people.
Selby has Abbey Leisure center with metal benches to grind on, Somerfields has curbs and gap jumps Selby District council building has some wicked stair sets, Walker's Bingo hall has a nice drop off, Selby High School has a bit of everything.
city screen if you wanna get better on the basic stuff
the zoo skate park under sainsburys. watch out for the parking attendants if you go into sainsburys though. If you see one it's probs best to walk
watch out for angry touchy bladers
castle mills car park.watch out for the bird crap.
the rydale building has a great 3 set long steps.
cliffordds tower and just across the road is a circular block.
Muse gardens ( just mind the pigeons!) and down near Argos
some dudes go down near the statue just past rougier st. near the station, or theres muse gardens or southbank, or down by the river...
Near Cliffords Tower outside the museum.A few ickle skaters outside the City Screen too.
The New Earswick mini-ramp isnt there anymore
the city screen is becoming a bit of a skate spot these days
city screen cinema; cliffords tower; the tower block near the old skatepark
really fun brick banks (quite smooth). i've only visited york a couple times, so don't know the street
names! any who fin exit, go towards a car sales court, via under cover bit near
bookies+ snooker hall. turn right down a small street with a brick building on it
and its round the corner! sorry its a bit sketchy!!
Whole of the university campus.
The entire town centre at 06:30am on a Saturday morning. Hit as many pretend homeless people as possible and give the bored coppers something to do.
Just up from Argos by river great grinding better steps (watch out for MOOSE!)The station underground rules.Bootham(posh nob)school.benches by the station near the famous leppar grave yard.good grinding.NEW OFFICES HAVE BEEN BUILT NEAR STATION (LOOK FOR BIG ARCH, NOT THE GUY)BIG SERCURITY BUT BIGGER DROPS (SICK)SKATE THEIR AT NIGHT UNLESS WITH MAYHEM MAD MAN RAMBO RUSS?!!!!!!
THe new indoor York sk8 park will be open in time for the end of the summer. More than likely it will be a small area with two very decent minis (one for learners, 3 foot max; the other for the thrashers, extention to 10 feet). The venue will NOT be in Clifton Moor but at the Sainsbury's multi storey car park on Fossbank. This will be initially open three days a week with the intention of being open full time by next year!
New Earswick mini-Ramp is good but crowded with 9 year old bladers.
The fountin at night is good not in the day though too many townies
The minsters ok steps and ledges
Watch out for the local nut case "MOOSE"
TRY LAW COURTS BEHIND CLIFFORDS TOWER, AND CASTLE MILLS SKATE PARK
Also watch out for new skate park developments happenning out at Clifton Industrial Estate. Trust me I have inside contacts at the York City Council planning department.
The Muesium Gardens
The university (a sixties concrete campus) is popular. Watch out for the geese, ducks and green shit, though.
Fishergate car-park on Mollits field: Benches, quarter pipes, fly offs etc. Also just over the fence is the Barbican Sports Centre with vert banks and concrete step things good for grinding and railsliding. Sometimes get kicked off at Sports Centre. Adams Hydraulics, Sainsburys, St Samsons Square, the Art Gallery, Arches, Theatre, Station. The list goes on and on. Arch Bishop's School, just off Hull Road: Banks all round playground with fairly smooth surface (very skatable). Also steps. Sometimes get kicked off.
Skateboard Shops
For your information, Mayhem Boardstore is no longer at 7 Jubbergate. They have moved to 46 Goodramgate, a much bigger store on 2 floors selling a greatrange of skateboards (40 to 50 decks always in stock) as well as accessories for skateboarding and they are also the only dedicated snowboard store in york with a wide range of boards boots and binding for men and women
shops, basically mayhem, as the other shop (exit) are only selling clothes now.... a shame really
Exit, Mayhem. minor selection but not too bad, really expensive. If possible go somewhere else.
exit near fibbers
mayhem near the market and near the fontain
Dont go to no-limits, the guy doesnt know waht hes on about. I would've said mayhem but theyre all twats now that the o.g crew has got, proper jobs/hooked on drugs/gf's/started uni, just stick with exit, helpful and got te ebst shit, good sales too.
Arc on Colliergate but it may be shutting down, also Exit on the same street for over priced wired stuff and also The EvilEye (also a bar and cafe now) on Stonegate.
Freespirit, exit, mayhem, o'neil and that 1 near the minster
mayhem-better. exit-griptape=shit
freespirit across the road from guildhall
MAYHEM SKATE STORE there is a exit in the town as well there both good but exit is more for clothes and hats than skate gear
mayhem rules, exit is rad,
Exit just off the stonebow, Mayhem is a little trickier to find, if you go to parlianment street fountain, there's like a market in between o' briens and pret a manger, go up there and its on ur left.
No Limits is the first and only Extreme sports accessories shop in Selby.
www.nolimits-shop.co.uk , gary@nolimits-shop.co.uk , 01757 701754
well, York is pretty shit cuz its a rip off, but Mayhem or Exit is good
No Limits is the first Extreme Sports Accessories shop in Selby North Yorkshire, its at 22 Finkle Street YO84DS
You got Mayhem, Exit and FUCK!!!
No Limits 22 Finkle street Selby
mayhem - in market
exit - whip-ma-whop-ma-gate

THE best shops r skater shops.Mayhem rulz.
Mayhem and Exit are the best
Mayhem, 7 jubbergate nuff said http://mayhemboardstore.com
free spirit but this place is very pricey
Mayhem (near the fountain, head towards the market and ask someone with a board where it is) exit er.... you'll have to ask for directions
inline skates
exit+ mayhem
Ok for all the gnarlers theres barbican banks, steep banks that Dan Cates nose picked (it has to be seen to be believed!) theyre round the side of the barbican (DUHHH). Companthorpe mini is such an improvement on the new shitswick one. BT banks are good but hard to find(one of those locals only spots). Argos is cool 14 and 7 step handrail and a set of 4. try the new ledges next to cliffords tower the circular block is just over the road its got sum 'curvy benches' too! The university is very good with just about evrything. Ok thats it Word out tothe york crew, Loz, rich, Russ, Munger, Rob and evryone else whove put up with this shite city.
P.S. dont shop in Exit cos its full of sell outs go to mayhem cos they know what they are on about (trust me!)
Castle Mills skatepark has closed from the 4th of June! They are going to move it to FOSSGATE underground carpark near SAINSBURYS which will be a lot better as there are no pigeons shitting on your head. 2 new spots have appeared in York both near CLIFFORDS TOWER some nice blocks(very smooth and skateable) and over the road next to the river a 1-foot high circular block (Very cool)check out the University, and round the carpark at the rear of the museum gardens for really really good rails about 1/2 foot high (can be hard to find as is behind some houses just ask for directions)keep it real, up the York massive!!!!!
-MAYHEM- 7 Jubbergate. york (in the market area)
MAHEM AND EXIT,GREAT
Haxby - Outside the Co-op & Threshers in the village centre: where middleclas deliquents(?) in designer gear hang around in large groups trying to look hard!
ARK - just off King's Square, ok not as good as Mayhem, but worth a visit
There is a good Skate, Surf & snow shop called Mayhem Situated Close to the Newgate market
Mayhem for all your skate board requirements and if you snowboard you won't find a better place North of Nottingham. Really friendly and helpful Unlike some Wan*ers in London shops
Mayhem, On the corner of the market near Marks And Sparks. SPIT ON THOSE KAPPA SLAPPERS!
Try Mayhem between the market and the back of Marks and Spencer for your skate stuff-along with all your surfing and most importantly snowboarding needs catered for. Plus the staff are extremely helpful and have great taste in hair dye.
