Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • fuck all!! legends is ok....er.....madhouse. tk max
  • tk max
  • Burtons. I'm a Burton's guy.
  • Check the Sonja Centre (top floor of the Whitgift Centre) for the best range of jeans in Croydon. A huge selection of sizes and styles from Levis, Wrangler and Lee, plus some very nice denim shirts (classic Levis and Wrangler western shirts are always available) and jackets. It was established in 1970 (and my parents tell me that the same husband and wife team have always run it), a true Croydon institution.
  • There are no decent clothes shops in croydon. it's croydon afterall, go to covent garden instead
  • Great selection of shops - miss selfridge, new, massive Topshop, Bay Trading, Clobber, Allders, Debenhams, M&S, Etam, DP's etc etc need I say more?
  • burtons
  • TK Maxx, if you want cheap designer stuff.
  • Fancy a pair of trousers for under a tenner,go to clobber, dont worry they dont actually cum apart until the second time u wash them.
  • Top Man, Croydon
  • Personally I wouldn't come here if you wanna buy nice clothes.. THough there's a shop called up in smoke which sells some alright stuff, it's on church street.. Also legends the skate shop in the whitgift center has some ok stuff, if you're that way inclined
  • Madhouse and TK Maxx - OK, I'm cheap, and "nobody will know the difference".
  • Not tk max there are plenty of decent garms stores in thwhitgift centre
  • That FCUK shop is quite cool, but the price tags aren't. Try River Island, that's not a bad little establishment.
  • C& A is no longer there
  • Croydon is shopping city with almost every shop, as long as it is not too posh!
  • T.K.Maxx in the Drummond Centre, for bargain end-of-range or seconds in designer labels.
  • Very good camping shop in St. George's Walk: Berghaus fleece tops and other bits go at reasonable prices, if not exactly cheap.
  • The Paramount shop in St. George's Walk (just up from Warehouse) is pretty pricey - but, the sales really are the time to go - lots of bargains to be had everywhere! Some of the more expensive places cut there prices massively to get rid of last year's stock. Look about and you'll find something. Offer cash! Haggle!
  • Apart from the obvious - Next, Gap, etc., The Warehouse Store opposite what used to be Grants Dept. store is pretty good for cheap stuff: jeans, tops - that sort of thing.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • Very good art/craft shop (Turtles) near the holy shop parallel to Katherine Street. Courteous staff.
  • The Hothouse - Pottery paiting and similar - excellent! 24 St. George's Walk, Croydon, 020 8681 1517
  • There's a good craft shop in Coulsdon opposite Turner's bookshop.
  • i get my arts and crafts crap from hobbycraft.
  • 'Secrets' is an exhibition of photography, a loosley-woven tale of death, mystery and intrigue by Croydon photographer Eric Hands-from the secret lives of balloons and hairdryers to burnt out cars and graveyards. You can find it at Books Etc., Whitgift Centre, Croydon from 6 May - 2 June 2004, or check out http://www.erichands.com
  • the shop on st georges walk.
  • Croydon Clocktower and the Fairfield Halls are usually hot spots for local artists.
  • WE LOVE TURTLES
  • the shop in the clocktower is good for nifty odd presents for people
  • The Crystal Garden has closed I'm afraid, nowhere to get your pagan needs anymore
  • It'll sound strange, but check out The Works Bookshop opposite Marks & Sparks. Downstairs has loads of artist materials.
  • Croydon has none unless you count the library. Actually there is a cool crafts shop on 2nd floor whitgift, main entrance selling african wood work
  • Turtles often suprise me with stuff that they stock, which you couldn't for your life get anywhere else in Croydon. They have a nice arts/crafts section as well.
  • croydon art gallery is quite impressive inside looks crap from the outside
  • Very good art shop in St.Georges Walk, sells anything and everything!
  • many, many tattoo studios. Croydon college exhibit over at the clocktower every year, among others.
  • The Clocktower Gift Shop
  • Warehouse Theatre, Dingwall Road, Croydon - presenting the best in new writing Tue-Sun all year, a mix of drama, comedy, children's theatre, youth workshops etc...
  • The Crystal Garden a new age/pagan shop. Sells candles, incense, magazines, crystals, books, aromatherapy oils and other stuff. Actively sympathetic to all pagans, as the shop is owned by one!
  • Stupid candle shop in the Whitgift centre, smells bad.
  • Croydon is hardly a cultural mecca but the Library has a gallery which exhibts art from time to time, especially if the artist has a local link.
  • Hi from CODA (Croydon Operatic and Dramatic Association) I've just tried to email this info...not sure what happened... Our site has moved from: www.comp.clara.net to www.coda-shows.freeserve.co.uk If you could update our entry in your lists we would be very grateful Thanks Claire
  • Poetry - now meeting at the Dog and Bull - worth a look in defo.
  • Croydon Operatic and Dramatic Association (CODA) - Go and see their excellent productions at both the Ashcroft Theatre, Fairfield Halls and the Braithwaite Hall, Croydon Clocktower. If you're interested in knowing more you can pop over to their new website: http://www.comp.clara.net
  • Twice-yearly Fairfield Craft Fair definitely worth a visit - usually in June and November. Also the Camelot themed Craft Fair in Lloyds Park which had its first appearance in summer 1996, and was good!
  • Good craft shops sometimes to be found in the back of the Drummond Centre (tend to appear and disappear again!)
  • Are there any local artists in Croydon or any of its borders, who would be interested in presenting an Internet art exhibition? The venue would be @ The Cyberzone cybercafe in Croydon and would be free for all exhibitors. To add to this any artists who wanted to have their work on display for the purpose of possible sale would be welcome to do so. Content of the exhibition is free, however there must be an Internet feel to it. Anyone wishing to participate can contact me at Cyberzone on 0181-681-6500 or e-mail me at gordon@cyberzone.co.uk. All suggestions on this subject will also be welcome.
  • The Clocktower - big public art and everything

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • Forbidden Planet near West Croydon Station is ok for most comics, backdated as well, etc, as well as comic paraphanalia. Just make sure you don't get mugged coming out by other kids interested in your purchases.
  • whsmiths? Waterstones?
  • There's a Forbidden Planet on the corner of London Road, opposite West Croydon BR.
  • May and brets, one stop
  • place in space south croydon
  • Forbidden Planet, opposite W.Croydon station.
  • Forbidden plannet at the end of North end
  • Forbidden Planet in South End and A Place In Space in Church St are your best bets for comic books and merchandise.
  • One opposite the games shop I mentioned, behind the Drummond Centre.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Croydon. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Croydon.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
