The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else

  • Croydon used to be a punk mecca in the 70s; The Damned used a recording studion in Spencer Road, S.Croydon; The Blue Orchid was a punk venue and i think was called The Greyhound; bands playing there included The Clash, The Buzzcocks, The Damned etc.
  • Theres lots of strange things in Croydon if you look around.. abandoned mental asylums, housing estates built on old asylums, underground tunnels+rivers, disused quarries etc..
  • The grave-yard is a popular hang-out for metallers & goths, & weed smokers anytime of day/night.
  • Although not an instrument shop I feel this place cannot go unmentioned. Scream Stuidios is perfect for any band/group wanting to rehearse in a friendly professional place. These guys know what they're talking about as they have done it all before!! Take time out to talk to them and you'll enjoy the scream experience even more. It's located in South Croydon, down a driveway next to the Blue Elephant Bar. Out the top of Surrey Street market and keep going, easy to find. The prices are excellent and the people are top.
  • Croydon is a suburb of Greater London. But it wants to be a city in it's own right.er..that makes sense.
  • Don't dress how all the others do, stand out and make a statement. Majority wear white shirt, black shoes and trousers!! and girls knee high boots, belt instead of skirt and a bra! hmmmmm attractive...not
  • The mobile Youth project offers a "new" dymension to youthwork in the Croydon Borough.
  • People from Croydon still think they live in Surrey, even though it became part of Greater London 25 years ago. (It's actualy within the M25!)
  • Green places to spend a sunny summer afternoon - Selsdon Woods nature reserve, and Farthing Downs Nature trail, or South Norwood Country Park. Well, hey, not everyone likes to spend their whole time in Croydon town centre.
  • Best thing about Croydon is Crystal Palace Football Club, pride of south London and located in lovely Selhurst Park which I think is within Croydon city limits.
  • The Aromatherapy Shop, Unit 5, 22 - 30 Keeley Road, Croydon, CR0. 1TE. We have on offer all your aromatherapy requirements, including, books, posters, burners, as well a large selection of oils. We are behind the Drummond Centre. We also offer a large range of treatments.
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's Award in Croydon is one of the most succesful in the London region. Each year about 250 young people gain their Award through involvement at School, in a voluntary Youth Organisation or an Open Award Centre. There are many options easily and cheaply available.
  • Are there any local artists in Croydon or any of its borders, who would be interested in presenting an Internet art exhibition? The venue would be @ the Cyberzone Cybercafe in Croydon and would be free for all exhibitors. To add to this any artists who wanted to have their work on display for the purpose of possible sale would be welcome to do so. Content of the exhibition is free, however there must be an Internet feel to it. Anyone wishing to participate can contact me at Cyberzone on 0181-681-6500 or e-mail gordon@cyberzone.co.uk. All suggestions on this subject will also be welcome.
  • The Clocktower - new heavy-duty public space.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Croydon. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Croydon.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
