Computer and Games Shops
The Bristol Wireless initiative based in Easton are having an event to publicise our activities and hopefully to "give away" 50 free reconditioned computers to local residents and other deserving causes at Easton Community Centre This will take the form of a Linux install fest so bring your old windows machine to try out a new operating system! Also a variety of other wireless based activities, plus food, chat, workshops and any other activities we can think of and organise for the day.
Of course we all know there is no such thing as a free lunch so be prepared to learn some stuff (mainly about free software and wireless networks) in order to "earn" your free computer.
The aim of the day is to promote open source software, recycling, and community owned high speed wireless data networks. All welcome!

There is one in Old Market Street if it's still open. For Computer Games, City Netgates
cafe in Broad Street.
For non-computer games, there are currently 3 shops. Area 51 on
Gloucester Rd does a good selection of board games and CCGs,
and a few RPGs. Captain's Log in Old Market does a good selection
of CCGs, a moderate selection of RPGs and a few boardgames.
Captain Sci-Fi has a good selection of RPGs, a lot of Warhammer,
a few boardgames and seems to be winding down on CCGs.
my 8 yr old son says gamesworkshop bristol is where he wants to work when he grows up. So, it must be good.
Future zone, Broadmead - excellent selection of games, at fairly good prices.

Capris near Bristol Bridge has internet access, you can bring your own laptop along or can pay to use a computer. Barristas also near bristol bridge has free internet access so bring along your own laptop so you can type away whilst drinking your coffee or eating their delicious cakes.
The whole of Park Street / town area is setup for free wireless Internet access. Just do a search on your PC or whatever and connect to StreetNet (unencrypted).
Byte Bar in Filton do great food, but actually no PC Games. At least it has few teenage geeks.
Recently setup, The lans are run bi-monthly and are currently held in Bristol. The ethos is to play games in a cheap, relaxed and fun environment without any of the clinical corporate drive behind it. These lans aren't just restricted to the Bristol area but if you could supply details of a cheap venue that could accommodate a large group of computers (even better if there is food and beer close at hand) then let us know and we will be happy to come to you.

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Bristol.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Bristol.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
