Favourite Building

  • The old cinema
  • market house
  • ...theres no place like home, theres no place like home, theres no place like home...
  • St. Peters Church.... get your binoculars out and check out the weird gargoyles and the mad faces near the top of the tower. Those medieval stone masons must have been smoking some weird stuff when they built that place.
  • there aint one this towns full of eyesores!
  • The Cornwall Collisium (looked new when Rome's was). I know what people meant by the whole Truro Road bedsits thing - it always served me well :0)
  • the market house could actually be a very nice building
  • there all built in the 60s and most have been abandoned!!!!
  • Truro Road Bedsits
  • the thin end cafe is not in the old westhill school which has now been demolished its in fore st.
  • My favourite building is Morven Windows on Clifden Road, very nicely presented.
  • Public toilets at the back of the market house!
  • the new EDEN PROJECT dont miss it even as it is built, it's a record book place
  • The Cornwall Coliseum
  • asda
  • Your respondents clearly have good taste! The building the Thin End is in, the old West Hill School and the criminally demolished Mt Charles Chapel were all the work of architect Silvanus Trevail. He also did Tregarne Terace, Morland Road, NatWest Bank, Mt Charles School etc etc.
  • THE BREWERY, WHERE ELSE?
  • That nice chapel at Mt. Charles has now been knocked down, and the sods whoi did it should be kicked out of the town
  • The one the Thin End's in.
  • you just got to adore the methodist church in mount charles
  • Parish Church and Market House (opposite each other)
  • Got to be the Parish church at the end of Fore Street
  • The old Market House - lots of steel girders - very industrial.

Demolish It Now Building

  • St Austell College
  • park house flats
  • st austell all of ot
  • The Restormel Planning offices, a good place for idiots to meet on a daily basis and plan how to ruin a town over 25 years
  • 2xs well part of it, multi storey finally, old fire station (to build a car park)cornish ford to build aldi.
  • st austell
  • MULTISTOREY ITS BEEN CLOSED FOR LIKE A YEAR NOW AND THEY HAVENT EVEN STARTED KNOCKING IT DOWN YET
  • the whole town centre
  • no more flatterning they,ll only build houses again.
  • Not the multistorey - it's the main decent skate spot in town.
  • Planet Lifestyle Surf Shops
  • THE TOWN CENTRE
  • urm.... everything? just damn get on with the regenerating please. the sooner the better dammit theres nowt to do here
  • Restormel Borough Council Offices.... idealy with all the councilors inside at the time. What are they doing (or not doing) to the town centre
  • the whole of the town centre
  • Heres an idea: Get G.W.Bush and his nuke 'em quick pall to drop a bomb on : Tesco, (in town) the cinema, argos, wollworths, and anything else that was built in the 60's
  • The Rashliegh - they practically have with their fancy new crapness.
  • All of em!
  • Gossips is gonna be flattened pretty soon - I think some people who go their mis-read it as fattened.
  • there are too many council houses pumping out inbreads, they should go.along with ALL of the town centre, just start again!!
  • Multi storey car park!
  • THE WHOLE TOWN CENTER!!!!!!! never fear, there going to re develop the whole town soon so its more modern come back in 2006.
  • all multi-storys look ugly it should be something everyone sees that is important and could have been so much better...the college with so muchland why didn't they utilise it more effiecently paths courtyards all over the place thousands use it every year how much walking have you done to get around it?
  • Poltair school the facilities are ancient
  • Polkyth leisure centre ( build a decent pool please!!!)
  • Truro road Bedsits
  • Park House Flats, it looks awful
  • The multi-story car park is soon to be demolished-or at least plans for it are. In truth most of the town is soon to be 'restorated' because of the amount of stores wanting to leave.
  • Tower block of flats
  • Multi-story
  • park house because it's rough and full of wacko's. The multi storey car park is a mess , don't go down the stairs there because a warm piss smell will ooze up ur nostrils.
  • Park house flats!!!!!
  • St. Austell town centre itself, what the hell is it?
  • St Austell's multi storey car park, and the abomination that replaced Mt Charles Chapel...
  • multi storey car park dont use it unless you have to most of us locals do only as alast resort
  • I think the railway station should be demolished and then a better new one built.
  • multi storey car park
  • THE GOLF CLUB - ACCORDING TO MY WIFE.
  • The monstrosity that has replaced the nice chapel at mt. Charles, and looks more like a remand centre
  • The new tax office on Trinity Street - there was a nice green field there before.
  • The multi-story car park. Ugly, crime ridden and impossibly hard to navigate.
  • Inland Revenue building - yes I know it provides employment but they flattened one of my old schools!
  • c.e.f. store at holmbush
  • The multi-storey carpark, actually the whole of Alymer Square - including Pip's flat.

  • Eden, Wheel Martyn, Heligan,
  • beaches and surfer guys!!!
  • The best things in St Austell are Ozzell Bowl, The rashleigh Arms for food, Bethel Social Club this is a very happening place and its got lots of cheap drink, you need to be a member though or know someone that can sign you in. The Eden Project is suppose to be very good, I must go and visit.
  • The road out of town. The fact that I spend most of my time out of it - go to Truro College instead, St Austell College is really bad!!! I can't stress that enough.
  • If you have money, your seen as a god! Penrice school - the best secondry school in Cornwall (based on 2000 GCSE results) Gossips and Club 2XS nite clubs

  • The best things about St.Austell are it is close to the sea, some nice girls (well more than there is in bradford ),the people I know and my family in St.Austell are brilliant, my sister and friends right laugh,It get's the fresh sea air so It's not as poluted as a big city like Bradford.
  • charlestown, charlestown, charlestown- ooh, and "The Rashleigh"
  • Innis Fisheries for excellent trout fishing and hostelery. The food is highly recommended.
  • Ozzell Bowl opened up near the town centre a couple of years and finally brought something to do of an evening other than going to a pub or club.
  • It's not London
  • its close to stenalees, that cant be bad
  • Cooksley's pasties Hicks Special Draft The bay Relaxed atmosphere All day parking for a £1
  • It's not a bad place to shop for essentials.

The Worst Things

  • St Austell College- never, never do a course there. There are no facilities for students, just a small coffee bar,a canteen you can't get served in or afford the food and nowhere to go. All you get is fire drills, mad little kids from local schools and lots of people walking around in suits looking down their noses at you. And the courses are crap and the teachers look pissed off all the time. Go to Truro college they actually seem to like students and it looks so much better on your CV. Most people from St Austell go to Truro college because the local college is so crap
  • rain
  • old bill
  • Restormel Planners, put them in a garden with the rest of the vegatables
  • St. Austell is beong demolished don't come here it's rubbish. Nothing is being rebuilt just knocked down.
  • now decent flat so expensive for nothing
  • all the inbreds
  • TOWN how can it really establish itself when all they introduce is another shoe shop or travel agents, phone shop, estate agents or even a charity shop not that i,m against them, but be real the youth and parents of today all they do is go Truro or Plymouth for what it cost in petrol they will save on there shopping.Come on council or whoever get a life think profit.
  • THE WHOLE OF ST AUSTELLS LAYOUT AND THERE BEING NOWHERE TO ENJOY URSELF NO NIGHTLIFE! NO CINEMA FROM NOVEMBER NOTHING FOR UNDER 25'S ...LIKE A RETIREMENT TOWN
  • if i said i hate st austell, its boring, degrading and an insult to cornwall then i think u get the picture lol
  • after pub kick out on weekends its best if ur off the streets or home...drunken violence is now a major factor in this town.
  • Old man Cowling!
  • See above!
  • St.Austell College ( now Cornwall College , St.Austell). Dont go there, its absolutely the pits. Go to Truro. Should be renamed St.Aweful College
  • too many council houses. st austell has become a place too live, but not much else.theres nothing to do, no where to shop, and no entertainment.
  • we all no that bodmin is the "drugged up towny" capital of the world!!
  • Single mother's everywhere, unemployment and lack of wages very shit quality of life
  • There aint much to do, infact there is NOTHING fun to do unless your a tourist
  • Past the negative attitude of the youth and the confused architecture its a good place to live beach parties to the south make brilliant alternatives to poor clubs Meva roundabout being slowly renamed Mc donalds roundabout is appalling somebody blow that place off the map!
  • ST AUSTELL
  • the town!!
  • its soooo booooring!
  • St. Austell
  • Criag the Weatherman, from spotlight who lurks around Here
  • The amount of time we have to wait for the council to build a decent town centre. Spar shop Bethel.
  • St Austell college - around the worst college in cornwall. The amount of time it is gonna take for penrice school to build a six form
  • Star Cars! Never get a taxi from them, they are the most expensive around!
  • most of the other people.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about St Austell. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in St Austell.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
