Record Shops
Music Box recently closed down, one music shop remains - Astleys.
Update: The Music box has closed down, now its just Astleys. A good range of Medium to High quality (though probably not hardcore audiphile standard) HiFi and Video equiptment including TV, DVD, Seperates music systems and they sell CDs and can order in whatever you need.
astley's can provide you with most material. Other than that the Music Box is pretty good. Richard and the other staff will always do their best to find you what you want.
The Music Box, Market Place
Astley's is great, it's got a great Hi-fi dept. at the back. The music box is good for new releases and has computer games aswell.
Astley's has quite a good selection for such a small place but...
The Music Box is amazing. Cheap, friendly staff and they can order anything.
Wallyword had two good record shops, The Music Box and Astleys (which is also a good HiFi shop)
They have a good range of music that is not chart (ie dance etc) and bargains can be found
Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
Just updating info here, The Boathouse Doesn't play drum and bass anymore, it is more focussed popular dance music on a Friday and Saturday night, on other nights it is more sports-bar focussed. Drinks are comparably with the rest of the town for price and the average age is now (written on 2006Mar17) significantly older than previously reported here. That's about all for club type music in wallingford.
The dolphin has a fairly rocky feel and a jukebox to compliment this with kareoke on every last Saturday(?) of the month.
The Boathouse by the river - Full of Year 11's and people from the 6th form who want to be cool. Some decent people there on Friday nights, Christmas eve etc. Alway full though, and you are definitly going to see someone you know well and loads of people you are aquainted with. A few fit girls
The nearest thing to a club is The Boat House by the river. They play Drum and Bass, employ bouncers and charge a lot for drinks. The entire year 11 and 6th form seems to be there on Friday nights.
Live Music Venues
"Acoustic Ballroom", the first friday of every month in Centre 70. Walk in with an instrument and play for free. All other guests pay £2.50. This event has become hugely popular amongst town-folk, and features a variety of local talent with music, poetry & comedy acts.
Cross Keys - 01491 826377
Coach & Horses, Cross Keys - both small
The Zodiac in Oxford, The Fez in Reading or The Net in Abingdon.
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide.
