Hook-up Spots (That hallowed spot where everyone hangs around with their mates dreaming of the time when they can get into the pubs or clubs - a bench, a corner: you name it.)
Outside St. Peter's seems to be popular!! How uncool is it to sit and drink outside an old church, that over the years has done nothing to us, but yet we detroy and beat it up!
I`m 17 and live in stowmarket, and theres just nothing to do!!!As me and my friends cant go to xcel or jokers,we end up just hanging around outside that good old hot spot known as (Mid suffolk leisure centre)kickin a ball about and genrally pissing off the leisure centre staff.Which isnt ideal,But we get soooo bored!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pikes Meadow. The hallowed drinking ground. Home to greebos and townies alike. First there's the decking (R.I.P) or whats left of it, you follow the path from the decking it will take you to the clearing (dead tree, loads of nettles and a fire pit) good for a dry day. keep walking and you find the dens (thickets of undergrowth, bad for a large group). On the Mainland, the basket ball court, sit behind the planks and get as pissed as you want and the esso is in easy reach. over the far bridge, turn left and there's the bench. sit get stoned, get stoned some more etc. And with so many convienient piss points, you cant go wrong.
I tend to see 'cool' people hanging around outside asda, woolworths, mackays, and the market place. Im SOOOOO glad i dont live in the centre of stowmarket!!!
I can remember many an evening hanging around the following: Chilton Fields; smoking B & H's underneath the A14 at the football ground roundabout trying to look cool (?!) or even Stow High playing fields. Oh and the Stow Falcons discos!! Wasn't hardcore enough to go near the Esso & Pikes Meadow areas but you would and still can find adult gary boys in their slightly more expensive escorts hanging out with teenagers in their well and truly beaten up escorts all trying to out do each other as to who looks more stupid - somethings never change!!!!
esso
There arent any youth clubs or anywhere 2 hand out so we just walk round town n nick stuff from woolies
People moan about us youngster hanging around in the streets but where else can we go?
laundrette..........always open and warm
Try not to go into town via highstreet. Avoid the marketplace and walk through alleys to the pubs. That's what I used to do.
The round brick thing should be distroyed !
Outside the butchers or the esso garage
3T a good place to get high,stonebridge,
the gary boys drive around in circles to look for young children to pick up and drive around in their Ford Fiesta's. Esso Garage and the Skate Park.
Esso Garage where sad gary boys pick up there heavily pregnant twelve year old girlfriends.
THIS IS NOW BEING UPDATED 2002. They tend to hang about outside superdrug, hsbc, or Goldstar taxi office, all fun.
When we used to hang out we did it in style. We'd actually try to do something. Does anybody actually realise how boring it is just to sit on a wall and talk bollocks in a small market town?! During the early 90's it did seem as though any supermarket/garage carpark exotic enough for a Vauxhall Nova or Ford Orion would suffice. Esso in Combs Ford was one such place. The smell of Lambert and Butler's was intense. Those shaven haired monkey's with their bum-fluff lip/chins, chainsmoking to the urban flava of downtown NYC...but in Stow. Genius!
Pikes meadow was the place to see bald coots on the small bridge but was stopped when they put that gate in years ago.
The ESSO garage looked particuarly popular last night with approx' 10 cars making an appearance. I'm sure if the police went down there, they could do about 60% of them for no MOT.
Ahh solar car park where many a night was wasted away drinking special brew, with a trusty pack of b'n'h. The odd gary boy circling the car park, for 15 year old blondes with hidious amounts of eye make, big gold ear rings and hair pulled back tight in a hair spray pony tail. When the beer ran low we would have hours of fun playing chew the butt. A game where if the ash fell off the fag while you were smoking it, you finihed that fag and then chewed that butt. This made most throw up including myself. Oh no here come the cops, quick to the esso for a ginsters pork pie and more fags. I've still got a tenna!!! then come on boys to lucky j's lets use those fake id's.
well its probably the sk8 park
Infront of Esso, with all the other gary boys and their hang on girlfriends. Otherwise its in the centre of the town infront of Superdrug on this stupid bench thing. But this is mainly for the school kids. Adults hang out anywhere away from the nasty kids who have bad attitudes (where are their parents??)
All the gary boys and 15 year old tarts all hang around the market place.
We think that they should all grow up and get a life. I know that there's nothing to do around Stowmarket, but come on! , wouldn't you rather stay in and watch telly.
When I was younger it was the Memorial Shelter on the Rec but that's gone now - along with the blistering graffiti that provided my early sexual education.
Definatly outside the Esso garage, the people there scare me. They scare me into trying to do well at school.
With a lack of social clubs for the 13-17 stowmarkets youngsters find themselves heading to the streets to find something or someone better to do!! Myself being one of these hang abouts i find myself with nothing better to do than sit on a bench... or the wall oposit Dillons with a bottle of vodka an a pack of fags. or having a 'gary' in one of their 'garyed up cars' where we go faster than we should or come too close to hitting a number of people!!! all in all stow is not a bad place if u count out the sarcastic police or the people who think they know better. if your a new stow-marshion i suggest hanging out at the 'BamBoo House' or the 'church' you could try the Reck but now the council are putting up cameras you wont find many people there.
Although u "grown up peeps" think we are sad little children with nothing better 2 do but sit on street corners or benches, getting rather tipsy and getting stoned u r correct in some cases but NOT 4 ALL!! We just dont have a place of our own 2 go and do as we wish!!This poxy little unexciteing town is run down by low_lifes and all people do is complain and the council do the same. But instead of just sitting on their arses, why dont they get up and do something about it??!! I'll tell u why, theydont want 2 spend money and time on us "no-hopers".They would rather watch the town suffer rather than help their future generations that will soon be the runners of this town!!!
The bench outside the Kebab shop is for the elite of eligible ladies and ideal for being chatted up or even chatting up others. A great place to sit and chill out with a friend but better atmosphere after dark.
Ha Ha Ha. Underage drinkers and smokers loiter around the United Reformed Church during the day and early evening. At around 2 in the morning at the weekend you can find drunkards and recreational drug users, as well as people taking a slash.
The Catedral of Hate - Birthplace of the Legendary Stow Fist: a Fist of blinding power and unerring accuracy! Hallowed Ground...
the esso garage..the pillbox outside woolies...the rec...can,t they just put them in the old pool hall in the evenings...out of sight?
Outside HSBC, ESSO and the Park oposite, the 10-15 yrs old smoking, drinking thinking they look really cool, give you loads of jip when you walk past! Most of them look old enough to get into the pubs, and clubs, but just dont bother!
Chilton Fields is often home to 15 year olds & their White Lightning. The strange brick thing outside Woolies seems to attract teenage mothers and enormous ginger men. Oh, and the Esso station is for the truly frightening and their Escorts.
Unfortunately there are no soup kitchens or secure mental health facilities here so the zombies and loons just wander around. The underage mothers must all go somewhere to get impregnated but I don't know where.
The roof of stowmarket high school
When I come into town , before I go to the pub , I notice that a lot of youngster's hang about in their car's outside HSBC, I know that they may not be old enough to clubbing , but surely they can find something else better to do of a night. Sometimes I feel scared to walk past incase they give me hassle. When I was young I used to hang aroound down buy the Esso garage with my mates ,smoking, I was only 15 at the time!It felt exciting and I felt quite hard. Nowaday's this sort of behaviour from kid's annoy's me. I must be showing my age. But I think that generally Stowmarket is not a bad place.
When I was at that stage I also found that drinking at the rec (recreational
ground ) was a popular spot. We uses to get half a bottle of vodka and a bottle of coke and mix them together. There was never more an exciting time when the
fair used to come to town and everyone used to get very drunk near the waltzers
with maddog 20/20, thunderbirds or cider. We even used to drink in the chuchyard.
It seems now the place to hang is in the 'gun emplacement', in the market square, opposite Woolies. Expect though the 12-15 smokeing, think they are hard crew.
Outside chick king at pub closing time or when the joke had closed, punch ups, snow covered mountain chips and everything! yum!
Oh and outside goldstar taxis, i swear they only have one car! CLOZ
The small circular brick thing outside woolies is where scum meet (although during the day time it's full of crinklies). At one point anywhere where it was possible to fit a Nova, XR3, Astra or similar car with an oversized exhaust and house speakers in the boot would do for the people without brain cells (and probably minus sexual organs too...)and I would assume that the lay-by, ASDA, ESSO, Rugby club etc. are all still used for that purpose. If you are looking for a place of interest it is usually best to follow the impregnanted 14 year olds to see where they wind up.
Outside youth football team discos, never actually went inside but got pretty goddam drunk outside at the age of apx 14. Those were the days
That place where the Gary boys of Bow park up on the relief Rd - I don't know details, as I'm abviously not cool enough to hang out there.
i lived in stow most my life untill now, i have to say it's a bit dead unless you know everyone
but then everyone knows everyone else so it's not too bad.
people now hang out at the leisure centre as well as pikes meadow.
the garry boys hang out at esso garage or the "lay-by", wow, thrilling!!
The teenagers of Stowmarket tend to hang around Chilton fields with a bottle of cider and a ten packet of Lambert and Butler, the scary thing is that some of these could easily get into the pubs but complain about not having enough money and so would rather freeze to death, very worrying.
pikes meadow, combs ford.
WHEN I WAS YOUNG (ALL THOSE YEARS AGO) IT WAS PIKES MEADOW, WHERE YOU COULD GET DRUNK, DRUGGED UP AND DO RUDE THINGS IN BUSHES WITHOUT YOUR PARENTS EVER KNOWING - HURRAH. THE NEW FAVOURITE WOULD APPEAR TO BE OUTSIDE ANY SHOP ON THE HIGH STREET, NAMELY WOOLWORTHS AND ARGOS
