Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • WNUK on Bury Street (Back of ALDI) . Great for Bench, Animal, etc.
  • Slect is cheap but u get gud bargains there!!
  • Well, what can I say? Stow is very limited when it comes to clothe shops, but Select is ok! Ipswitch or Bury are best!!
  • Clothes Shops? Do they exist in Stowmarket?
  • Clothes shops? Mmmmmmm Let me think. I think I once purchased a pair of football socks from sportskit. I had to remortgage the house to do so though.
  • If you don't wear George clothes and you are a woman you have one shop. If you are a man there are NONE.
  • For those who feel unlucky to live in Stowmarket, there is no such thing in Stowmarket as a Clothes shop. However for many of Stowmarket’s residents, Stowmarket is a yet to be appreciated, "mini-Milan." This proves to them their theory and ongoing preservation of the fact that Stowmarket provides them with everything possibly imaginable, and allows them to function without ever leaving the confines of Stowmarket.
  • Select: Cheap clothes, Thats about it really unless u wanna buy clothes from qd
  • beau fashion? i think thats closed down. select? total crud. oh, and we have about 10000000 charity shops.
  • Select and beau fashions are pretty crap but apart from them there sod all else
  • Are you having a laugh!!! Ipswich or Bury for this one!
  • select......every1 at the local clubs always seems to b wearin the same thing as there is no other choice for clothes but QD and they may mostly consist of jobless weirdos who live off the government bu they havnt stooped that low yet.
  • Chazza shops were okay.
  • Are there clothes shops for males in stowmarket???
  • QD for extra style LOL
  • Sports Kits , I ramed a trolley into this dump and then the next day someone robbed it
  • again cant fail with the charity shops, ive had many a bargain from there. Rich Mac
  • Beau fashions - Definatly over priced. Select - Kinda hit and miss.
  • haha you will find QD and Oxfam. apart from that nothing however thats all the stowmarket residents need there dress sense is something quite embarresing
  • Get your facts write! Bungle bear used to run an antiques shop called Chelsea House Antiques, not a clothes shop, and now runs an interior design shop in Woolpit!!!!
  • fuck that unless you like QD
  • Fosters Menswear used to dress the Stow Fist back in the day. All chinos and stripy shirts. Ridiculous clothes at ridiculous prices. Other than Abingodon, Oxon this was one of the last places you could find the hallowed green sign. RIP.
  • If you are a man, Stowmarket is the place to go for clothes. Inces rocks, but hold on!! what about Geoff Turners 'Outdoor people'? Arrrghhh the men in white coats are coming to get me.......
  • QD and Mackays
  • Well this is where chics have the upper hand, there plenty of places in stow for chics to get clothes. However for us guys it's a little harder, Gordon ince simple does not cut it. We have to trek to ipswich on a saturday afternoon and vist topman, in tower ramparts for sutible glad rags.
  • select
  • Yeah right, what clothes shops? - there is Select, thats okay I suppose.
  • Don't bother. There used to be a cute place that sold chinese slippers and the like, but now there's just a couple of reject clothing places. A couple of charity shops, but they don't really have any trendy threads.
  • well theres select which is probably the only half decent clothes shop! other than that there is "size-up" and gordan ince and "beau fashions!" but thats it unless u call QD a clothes shop!
  • I DID BUY A LOVELY GREEN TANK TOP FROM ONE OF THE FINE HIGHSTREET SHOPS
  • crap....crap...crap..... QD is the best on offer!!!.
  • Select, Size up, Beau fasions - my advise go to ipswich!
  • Select is probably the best one.
  • Size up. Select. Woolworth's. Oh, and the glories of Gordon Ince, which is currently being 'modernised'. Hah! Bury beats Ipswich for clothes, and Norwich/Cambridge are better again.
  • As of Sept. 2000 Select, the new trendy womens clothes shop in the high street is where all the single mums hang out.
  • Do we have any?
  • Breakers closed down recently, which was my favourite clothes shop. Everything was fashionable and of a good price. Another shop sells clothes for the Kate Moss Figure. One outsized, ome mixed age ranges and one Mackays. We need more!
  • Sadly lacking, a good alternative clothes shop would go down well, as we have a very mixed population.JAM
  • Forget it - shop in Ipswich, Bury St Eds, or better, be adventurous go to Norwich, Colchester or Cambridge.
  • QD is the only decent shop in Stow, i cant believe we actually shoplifted from there on several occassions.
  • none for the normall male the two wich are here a deffinatly in a time warp one called inces still has the male staff wearing WHITE cotton socks the other you have to have won who wants to be a millionare to pay for the over priced goods
  • Size Up and it is huge. Or should I say it is for the huge. Nothing against those of you with larger than life stature. Apart from that there is nothing that sells anything of quality for a reasonable price. The closest best place is Mad house in Ipswich.
  • HAHAHAHAHAHA - you're joking - in Stowmarket people wear Army uniforms or jackets with such logos as NASA on - which was sad five years ago and is now laughable.
  • BREAKERS!!!!! Oh yes - we've arrived now.
  • Stowmarket has very few clothes shops, a QD ( quality discount ) which sells all kinds of great trash perfect for the people with no taste ( such as myself), Mackays is there for the types who dress fairly normally and Hopgoods used to cater for the ' mature woman'but is now closed. None apart from QD are busy which is a sad reflection on the people of Stowmarket. There is of course Marilyns excellent bra shop. Marilyn used to work in the afore mentioned Hopgoods and now runs her own shop which prides itself on individual attention and well fitting bras.
  • only bad cheap ones. the charity shops are your best bet...oh except the fabulous gordon ince!

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • the best craft shop is Expert. OOHHHH IMPRESSIVE!!!
  • I'm sure there is an art gallery near the old Co-Op. No craft shops apart from the stuff you will find in the many charity shops that Stowmarket town encompasses (I read a quote on here about 12 pubs to 8000 people? What about the 12 charity shops to 8000 people, oh, and estate agents. I can't believe there are that many houses in the area to warrant such a number of estate agents.
  • erm... bookshop, quite good. no galleries. 1 craft shop, sells naff stuff 2 stick on cards. weird.
  • Trends is a cool place to get gadgets, wierd and wounderful gifts. A new shop in town is called That Shop which sells strangr nik nakky stuff i like.
  • The Museum of East Anglian Life has some good crafts in the shop.
  • Serious lack of decent art & craft supplies means a trip to Bury or Ipswich forall but the most basic items. even Needham has a better range.
  • Station Hills Peoples Gallery is worth a lokk. If not Q.D. have a passable range of tacky prints. The doctors surgery in Violet Hill also displays ans sells some decent stuff.
  • frame shop near the church and theres a little crafts shop down bury street but i think thats it!
  • don,t encourage the weird arty types.
  • Framing place behind the Co-Op. Hart's Homebrew (?!) & Crafts.
  • There is one art shop selling frames and such and one shop that sells things for people who like to knit. Not too my taste, windchimes and dreamcatchers are more my sort of thing.
  • There are several arts and craft shops in the nearby villages, ie Haughley but not that many in Stowmnarket itself. Probably the best bet is the Museum of East Anglian life by Asda which sells local craft peices.
  • Art, in Stowmarket? It would never catch on.

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • I guess, just adsa, woolies, dylans. Yeah, Dylans is good 4 stuff like that!!
  • Dillons for the very friendly staff. COUGH. The card centre used to have a nice fit girlie working in there but I haven't been in there in a while as I got an 8 week lottery ticket from tescos while I was there the other day.
  • 2005.....The Card Centre on Bury street has a very good stock of most titles. If it doesn't have it the owner will get it for you.
  • woolies sell mags.
  • INFOMAX, BRING IT BACK 1986, FIREWORKS FOR ALL AGES
  • INFOMAX, BRING IT BACK 1986, FIREWORKS FOR ALL AGES
  • Combs Ford newsagent was run by one of the local footballers (Ipswich) brother..forget his name.
  • One stop (known as dillons)
  • Dillons - my favourite newsagents. Before a night out I always go in there to stock up on smoking and drinking materials. The shop assistants are all very friendly.
  • The Ford shop has a good range of magazines. I can get all my favourite magazines in Stowmarket but I have to go to two or three different places. As for comic shops, you must be kidding, right??
  • Dillons always open when you need that packet of chicken crisps after a few in the duke.
  • Apart from the smaller newsagents in Wolsey Road and the Ford there is just Dillons really or the supermarkets. Not alot to choose between any of them really.
  • the card shop, woolies, asda, dillons erm think thats it oh and the cabin!
  • NO ACCORDING TO WHAT MAGAZINES U WANT I SUPPOSE
  • dillons in the town.....great selection of skin mags....and you can read alot b4 ya buy.
  • Dillions is about as good as it gets
  • dillions,
  • dillons is good for magazines, about the only one really.
  • There are several news-agents in town atleast 4 . Most sell a good range of all the popular magazines for men and women.
  • There was once a place called the Infomax centre near Asda - they payed their employees £1.60 an hour. Crash and burn.
  • loads of the things!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Stowmarket. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Stowmarket.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
