Food
My God! Newport still has a WIMPY!!! Haven't seen one of them for YEARS!
Skating is a fast lifestyle - sit down meals are not on the cards but we are all
ardent supporters of the great double golden arch of macdonalds. Ronald is like a
father too us. we salute you!
McDonalds (probably the only one with decent food) mainly Indians and curry house nice french restaurant on Clarence place
best kebab is the... well its the best nuff said.
Post drinking, Boomers is excellent as is Yummies for Kebabs - I used to date a Greek and he said that he'd tried Kebabs in many countries but that yummies was by far the best - try one with chips and garlic sauce on top - bloody gorgeous!
Loads look in yellow pages
stick to the pubs, you can't go wrong
Hunky Dory's top of charles street Veggie and Vegan fare, top quality stuff
ferris Chippe at the bus station cheap big portions
dEFINATELY THE JEWEL BALTI
If you like Kebabs go to YUMMIES,
the railway tandoori, devon place
McDonalds, High Street. Savoy Sandwich Bar, Dock Street.
Pubs
murrenger, le pub, riverside & the hornblower are all skater freindly pubs
If you're looking for a quiet pub with no atmosphere, go to the Ridgeway Inn, cos no one else does!!
the griffin this is the be all and end all as far as pubs go. it jusy=t doesnt get much better than this!!
the best pub to go to in newport is the Murrenger
don't bother going no where else cause the lager tastes like shit
The Angel, Le Pub (classy pre tj's hang out), Riverside tavern, Murenger,
and the king billy (king Willian I to all those who want the exact terminology)
owned by this guy called Gem who is sound. Go on in the decor is cool!
Loads, and Loads! 15 of them in Caerleon Village
The Griffin if you want cocktails and friendlt atmosphere. La Bambas for a few more fun cocktails and tequila slammers!
A good night out is as follows - Pen & Wig, cheap doubles (£1:50) and loads of places to sit and talk with your mates whilst you get started - also a very good range of mutton dressed as lamb to laugh at!
Then on to the Griffin for a few cocktails and kamakazes, then to the murrenger (even though their cider is vile)for a couple before heading off to the cotton club. Other optional pubs enroute are Le Pub, the Cross Keys (for pool), O'Neills, and the Riverside.
The Murenger has always had the best beer and the best jukebox and the best crowd in town. However, The Griffin is good for your young posh totty, and Le Pub is alright as well.
Go to caerleon i'd say again but loads of pubs in newport...just student prices in caerleon especially minstrels.
Has to be the Riverside. Beats going over the Bridge to the shite in Newport Town Centre.
The Riverside Tavern isn't too bad, it stays open until 1am and is great in the summer as you can sit outside and smoke as many joints as you want!
bloody loads of them...if you want to be an alcoholic come to newport...nice beer too
Horblower and Murenger do the best beers riverside + Le Pub are nice places but shit beer
the royal mail on factory road has full size pool table and yummy cheap food
LOADS
The Engineers in Baneswell for all you 30 somethings who want a decent town centre hostelry, without the hassle of the town centre kids !!
For a complete listing of pubs in Newport selling decent beer look at the website of Gwent Branch of The Campaign for Real Ale. The Newport list is at

If you're gay or lesbian in Newport, forget it! Go to Cardiff. There is, actually a gay pub in Newport called the Log Box, so-called because it IS the size (or possibly smaller) of a log-box. Basically, if more tha three of you want to go in, two of the bar staff have to leave. That's how small it is. I kid thee not.
Le Pub, a great place for indie, rock and underground dance music and live bands in the week.
The Ale house is shut in John Frost square. Good atmos in the Rat & Parrot in Cambrian Road (after dark), Lloyds is also good for a giggle (also in Cambrian Road)
AVOID like the plague the really bad themed pubs which are springing up in newport, namely the parrot and something, and so on. some good pubs in the alleys by the market...but they are rough.
Some of the best pubs are The Griffin, in Griffin Street (a little small, but very cosy and a great laugh!)
Ale House, John Frost Square. Ye Olde Murenger House, High Street. The Hornblower, Commercial Street. (Good for bikers)
Cafes and Coffee Shops
there are not enough around and they should open till late and not be so expensive
Coffee shop by the smelly market - and Mr Q's.
Quite a few now placed all around city centre
The Rat and Parrot is excellent for coffee etc in the day - avoid it like the plague in the evening though, unless you're a posey wanker that is, in which case you should fit in well.
Again lots of these too, scarlets, Mr Q, in kingsway and an old toy store that has been converted
loads but all of them smell of old people and toilets
The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
