Clothes Shops, Shoe Shops, Fashion and Bargains

  • for flares skinny t-shrits and any 70's gear go to renegade in the arcade by the murenger.they sell "pop" clothes
  • hitman
  • Newport doesn't really differ to any other town centre for clothes shops..
  • hmm factory shop is the most decent one, not, thats the only bloody shop in this dive
  • the skate shop. you are a skater, buy your clothes in a skate shop
  • hmmmm, decent clothes r hard 2 find in newport. they sell good stuff in freestyle (the skate shop)
  • can't beat primark. trendy clothes and at cool prices. means u can afford to change your entire wardrobe every other week!!
  • Newport sadly lacks any decent clothes shops apart from the skate shops and we all end up looking the same - oh but there's the "inshops" that devilish maze of crap where you would gladly buy a fake tommy fleece just so that the shop keeper will lead you back to the outside world. Venture in at your peril
  • If you want to spend shed loads on one item then go to Cardiff - if however you want to go bargain hunting there are loads of really good cheap shops and charity shops that can keep you happy for hours.
  • The two Chessmen shops and The Wardrobe are about the best for your swanky gear (burberry, Lacoste stussy diesel and the like) The skate shop isn't bad either.
  • Lots of these, Next, River Island, Etam etc all the usual
  • Freestyle skate store,Market Arcade - 100% skater owned
  • chessman for top quality clothes
  • they hardly ware any, they are cave monsters
  • Combat Clothing in Kingsway centre is cheap
  • wildings
  • Full of pound shops, catch a train to cardiff is easier!
  • Chessman Bridge Street: Good selection of Mid-Range designer gear (i.e. Hope & Glory, Ted Baker...) as well as some good label casual - Stussy, Ben Sherman & Peaky etc.

Arts, crafts and such (Anything from pukka art galleries to craft shops. Trendy and twee both welcome.)

  • Great new shop in Market Arcade selling new age stuff as well as dragons and fairies. A must see shop, theres something for everyone.
  • the Art School in the University used to be great, progressive electronic and right on it. Now its just a shit film school.
  • Newport Art Gallery above library not bad - they do have some very good exhibitions from time to time. And its free!
  • Gwent Picture Framing on George Street hosts great exhibitions of talented (no, really) local art as well as other more worldly exhibits. Ffwrm in Caerleon
  • Newport Museum has been doing a wonderful job for decades, love em and they're so helpful too. Big up anyone working there. Always try to find out whats on at the exhibition, they can bring in some good things - and hey its free. Roll on a bigger theatre, we should have at least two, more choice will mean people will become more likely to return to the stage for there entertainment, 'stead of sitting @ home watching Corrie or Brooky.
  • The art Gallery slap in the middle of town, next to Queensway shopping centre.
  • Summerhill Pine - Great furniture, loads of choice and friendly service. Gifts too.
  • aRT? nOT IN THIS PLACE.
  • nothing. newport has one of the best fine art degree courses in the country, but the rest of the town cant be arsed. apart from public sculpture. newport is knee deep in sculpture.(most of it is skateable)
  • Doesn't get much of a look in. Try Llantarnam grange to see local artists work
  • Maindee Festival is Newports annual multicultural arts bash. The 2001 festival will be held at Newport Rugby Club on July 7th. Asian/Celtic music, stalls, dance etc.
  • Annies craft shop in the market arcade is for all the hippy chicks out there. Some interesting takes on your average bong too. The Newport Gallery in John Frost Square is quality and all up and coming art types should go. Look what it did for Nicky Wire and the rest of his crew.
  • There is not one decent peice of spray on the walls of newport, and that includes those skaters half-arsed efforts outside the new skate part
  • Annies in the market, art shop in that arcade thing, ffwrwm in caerleon - not much really
  • Go to the indoor market newport town centre - if you are looking for history - visit Caerleon
  • Busy bee's at the craft units Tradger house. sandra +Sue run it, nice women
  • Art Gallery in the library. I could draw better myself

Magazine and Comic Shops

  • what? try smiths
  • Terry at Negative zone upstairs in the market
  • Negative zone, upstairs in the market, see Terry.
  • There is a top comic shop upstairs in Newport Market, it sells all kinds of comics even some rarities, top Banana!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Newport. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Newport.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
