BRINGING LOCAL HISTORY HOME
www.ourselvesourplace.org.uk
Stories of north Sheffield are set to make their mark on history as a new website is launched by Sheffield Galleries and Museums Trust and Sheffield design company, theWorkshop. www.ourselvesourplace.org.uk provides a fascinating insight into the memories and experiences of people living in north Sheffield.
www.ourselvesourplace.org.uk features stories, sound clips and images which provide visitors with a privileged insight into personal recollections and private passions. The stories were collected as part of a two-year local history project that invited people from all walks of life and of all ages to share their memories. Stories included on the website come from people from Parson’s Cross, Southey, Shirecliffe and Foxhill telling their stories spanning from the 1920’s to the present day.
Virtual visitors to www.ourselvesourplace.org.uk are invited to post online their own memories and related photographs which tie in with stories that are already being told - therefore providing further insight into the personal memories and experiences that have shaped North Sheffield.
www.ourselvesourplace.org.uk is just one-part of a two year project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund which aims to collect new histories and extends services out into the community. A year of activities has previously resulted in an exhibition – Home Truths – shown at the City Museum in Sheffield and community venues. The contents of the exhibition have been used to create this website.
"Skip to the end"...a personal view: "it's a great site but what it really needs is your personal stories from Sheffield - particularly views from da yoof, as it's currently rather top heavy on the olds. Some of the stories are fantastic."

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!
In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor
(the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.
We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!
If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.
Have Your Say...
The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.
You can tell us more about Sheffield.
This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here.
(But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)
You can use the add an event form
to tell us about events happening in Sheffield.
Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
