Bicycle Shops, Bike Sales and Repairs

  • route one i guess. even tho this gay called josh works there
  • route one, sumo
  • Route One, chapel walk. Good girls jeans as well
  • Go to Decathlon on Eyre street, miles cheaper than j.e James and the staff know their stuff. The Shop's massive and the choice of gear is top.
  • Nip over to Fosters bikes in Thames St Rotherham for your bmx stuff. Dan and Danny are good and ride!
  • J.E James, situated quite close to Halfords and everyone knows where it is, from grannies to trannies. All the staff are cool, but be prepared for a little hostility as the owner has had some trouble from the very good BMX scene in Sheffield, be polite and take your NUS for 10% discount. Inner Tubes and worn tyres are pretty much given away if your in need of help. Free use of a pump aswell if you need it. You can pay by every means, get credit, they take kiddies switch (solo and the others) and they should have (normally they do) a someone who knows and rides BMX with a passion looking after the section. There is always something to barter over, like odd pedals, bars, and anything that's cheap that breaks quite quickly! they don't stock G Sport products as it's George's home town and he discounts well to the locals. All in all it's an old long running shop filled with very nice people willing to help you and understand the scene well. Oh and you want to be in the old shop as the new one next door is for the MTB boys, although if space age light products are your thing, titanium and carbon fibre coodies are a plenty, just have your credit card handy!
  • route one on chapel walk and j.e james which is near bramall lane
  • hillsborough cycles...petrol
  • Re-cycle pedal power Darnall community charity Attercliffe
  • halfords and james cycles are the place to go for bikes
  • J.E. james (highfields ) for push irons. Manhatten motorcycles for the other.
  • Halfords, person-powered. Also sell helmets and other stuff.
  • There's a bicycle shop on West Street which was usually pretty helpful. The peaks are a great place to cycle round.
  • Motorcyclists: Try Manhattan on Chesterfield Rd
  • J.E.James cycles on Bramhall lane- excellent value and good help and advice.
  • Manhatten Cycles (for the petrol powered variety). Apart from doing normal bikes, they will also happily supply you with spares for the 75cc trials bike you use for scaring the neighbours. If you're thirteen.
  • M & B, Dronfield. (Strictly speaking it's Derbyshire) A great shop. They build their own bikes including tandems and I have always found them to be spot-on with advice and repairs.
  • Butterworth's, Catchbar Lane (Leppings Lane tramstop). In my opinion this is the business. Friendly staff, a wide range of parts in stock, equally at home with MTB's or road bikes.
  • Butterworth's, Abbeydale Road. Small and friendly with the emphasis on road bikes.
  • There is a great bike shop in Bakewell called Bakewell cycles or something like that. Anyway the proprieter is my mate Pinkie from Sheffield and he'll do you a great deal on bikes but don't talk too fast or you might confuse him.
  • James' cycles on Brammal Lane is a good bet.
Someone said it was a 'good bet'. I don't think so myself, but it's alright especially if you're an MTB fiend.

BMX Trails, Street Spots

  • Will the person who gave a long detailed desciption of sheffield street spots write another; i want to know exactly where 'the spoon' is and how to get there. i am fasinated and really want to go. please put up some better directions. + You want street???? Its all about the roof drop off the lil' tennis hut in bingham park. i christened that biatch! Thanks Matt
  • at hallam uni, theres some ledges for grinding
  • BOLE HILLS MASSIVE!!!!!
  • www.dirtsociety.com for dirt in Sheffield
  • Devonshire Green, Good points = is home to a really good park. Concrete bowled sections, flat banks to subs, pyramid jump middle, grind ledges/viewing seats and some really interesting lines become available quite often. Good flow and the park is in good condition. The park is flood lit till 10:30pm but you can ride after this on a good summer night with a full moon. The Skaters at this park are sheer gentlemen! A top bunch of lads! a massive ammount of Rider and skater respect is present at this park, a sign of the future? The park Is home to some really good riders, some people who are well within the circle of trust in the industry and many pro (well you know what I mean) riders attend the park, even from the states! Bad points = the locals are the most trend influenced crowd I have ever met, they can also be very frosty and unless you drink cider at 10:30 am sitting on your sub 6 LB f-it bike wearing all black and etnies, and didn't shower before attending your going to be a visitor. Surrounding the park is a large ammount of housing for ethnic minorities and about 90% of the time they are really nice people, but there is a small ammount of said people who are looking to grab your bike or bag, and fighting back is a big mistake! so be carfull! The park does not like Tioga tyres and you will be in a nasty way with the icy like concrete Tioga combo. This park gets over run by children on the weekends (as any park does) but go steady take one out and face a hard dad for sure! Female presence is fair to good, but see above comment if you want to get frisky, just don't shower, and take a litre of white lightning and your quids in! ha ha. There is a huge ammount of street spots in sheffield! go to the Ponds Forge swimming pool, and there are some mellow banks to a metal rail, a lot can be done here! Be brave and ride the Via Ducts for the Duel Carridge way seen from said banks, dodge 70mph oncoming traffic to flat bank-wall ride. move off into the shopping centre and ask or find where Debbenams shop thing is, there you will find some ledges for lefties and righties that are steep as well as long! watch out lefties you pop off quite close to the via duct under the road and many old ladies and such can be taken out at mach 2 after an other wise perfect grind. Just across the yonder from there is the fire station banks from the G Sport advert in Clicked 6 (I think?) very good fun and normally safe to ride without fire engines plowing you down. Up near sheffield Uni (not Hallam) there are some more banks at the hospital, be carfull the guard there is like Jeff Capes on acid with a hangover and he's as rum as they get! don't flap your lips too much or you will be in A&E soon after! trust me! Close to there is a grass bank of a steep incline and about second floor house hight to a 3 to 2 foot wall used as a sub box....very good! The further south of sheffield you go the more industrial it gets, once out there find the tram line (very easy!) on the horizon you will see sheffields dry slope, and half pipe in the distance. Get level with this (bearing in mind you will be about 3 miles away from it) once level with it still following the tram lines face it. Directly behind you up the hill hidden in trees is a forgotten skate park called by the locals the spoon (?) it's wierd small, and tight, but the fencing surrounding this is very suited to learning back rail anticts, 1 to 1.5 foot transition 1 foot deck to a 1 foot, by ten inch wide fence. Good fun! on your way up to the park try the green hand rail, not steep but hard to get on to, I broke my tooth at the bottom but don't let that put you off ha ha. Get back down to the tram line and ask for the closed down petrol station (close by) this has a closed down forcourt with tonnes of run up to a steep bank to wall ride, and mellow banks to wall rides. A centre chunk of concrete good for a 180 to sproket, stalls, and a tight speedy hop manual/tap to flat bank. It's really good to ride but watch out for gathering on lookers as the police then move you on. There is a lot more there but as a visitor to the city I could only fit this in during my weekend there. All in all go with a friend ask around and you will have a wicked time there.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Sheffield. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Sheffield.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
