Sports Clubs and Facilities

  • leisure world is the best place for sports...they have some really good pools and they have great squash and badminton courts..generally the schools are the best for fields and other courts as long as you can get to them without being caught or having to pay for them. highwoods has a great gym and sports hall at the gilberd which is relatively cheap.
  • Essex Uni offers great facilities to the public too
  • col u is cheap to get in but its near the garrison n all the bloody squaddies
  • You boarders out there have to try mountainboarding. Me and my mates went to the only Mountainboard shop in essex, Skeleton Coast and hired some boards. it was the best man. The guys who who work there do lessons and we went out on Saturday and they taught us how to board proper. Power slides and jumps man. I have begged my Mom to get me one for xmas.
  • ipswich dry ski slopes great for snowboarding.
  • lesure centre or the gilberd school has good facilitys open to the public!!
  • Colchester United!!! Essex's top footie team. Fininshed in the top half of Division Two last year as well as reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup, beating Coventry City 3-1 on the way! Promising side now managed by Phil Parkinson, one of the best new managers in the country. Star player: Karl Duguid! Play at Layer Road.
  • Rollerskating at rollerworld is great fun and keeps you fit.
  • Home to Colchester United. Can the council hurry up and build cuckoo farm? Im used to the plush surroundings of Carrow road
  • Layer Road is the place to be, 5,000 capacity and still has terraces. Clock end has gone and Layer Road end is for the away supporters. Pot noodles at half time, are you listening Delia with your gourmet pies and Premier League, Col U is where it. What will Cuckoo Farm be like?
  • colchester swimming pool has three cool flumes! theres something for everyone there.
  • The Climbing wall at the Uni is pretty fun.
  • Colchester Are shit at football
  • Home to the legendary Colchester United F.C., the famous U's are currently in the second division, they have one of the most fantastic football stadiums in Colchester and are well worth the £11 admission fee to watch them for an hour and a half.
  • Errr, the leisure center, bowling alley, cricket club, golf club...probably more, can't honestly say.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.

If we have helped you out or made you laugh you can buy us a pint.

Have Your Say...

The Knowhere Guide depends entirely on real users for information. Please feel free to join in.

You can tell us more about Colchester. This is also the method to use if you want to correct some of the information already here. (But please remember you're not mailing the person who actually wrote whatever-it-is.)

You can use the add an event form to tell us about events happening in Colchester.

Or, if you'd just like to leave a message for other users of this site, take a look at The Knowhere Board (handy if you're just trying to get in touch with someone).
