Food
Cheese, chips, bbq sauce and pineapple from reema, A delicasy not to be missed! Make sure your pissed first though!
Greasy, unhealthy kebab shops amd chippies aplenty. Those looking for food that won't kill you should try Cardiff or Swansea.
Martin's Bistro is good. pricey food but well worth it
It has to be Tino's on the Corner of cowbridge road !!!!!! Somebody tell Antonio to stop playing casanova . Girls hes not all he makes out to be !!!
The chinease takeaway in the triangle in brackla is amazing!!The sweet and sour chicken is THE BEST!!
McDonalds on Derwen Road.
As said previously Tinos is the main place for your Fish & Chips , having changed hands a while back the italian couple have sold it to their nephew but the quality is still there , be prepared to que up .
mc donalds!!!! visit smelly sue and damian the demon!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or go and see ginger tossa 'steve'. or michelle from wildmill for some jack and norry!! what a bull shiter!!!!!
dominoes pizza opposite the bus station
I felt like a real country bumpkin when I moved to London and asked for chicken curyy, half and half in a Brick Lane curry house. sacriledge. i have Rajput to thank for that one.
Too many greasy kebab houses to mention, all WILL give you a nasty taste of kebeb hangova!!!
Don't go near any kebab outlets on a late nite, you may get raped by a member of staff at the Turkish Best kebab House (It's true), or poisoned by a foul pizza cut with an unclean meat knife in Zeana's, or suffer turkish wrath kebab hangover the next day after stumbling into Reema. Yeah, just don't ever eat in town, except for McDonald's, of course. There's three locally, the drive-thru is crap. The one in town is handy, the one up the Pines is let down by the staff. Harris, Jo, Ed J... if it weren't for guardian angel Emma B the place would be the pits.
Don't go to McDonald's. Steven Harris works there, and he has unhygenic fingers.
THERE IS A CHIPPY AND A CHINKIE HERE IN BETTWS WOULD YOU BELEIVE!!
There is an excellent indoor market in the centre of Bridgend, selling fish, meat, deli products etc, two fine cafes, and a take away snack bar. Checkout the fruit and veg stall, with a fantastic choice of produce, and friendly helpful staff who will put it all in your bags for you.
Martin's Bistro, Bridgend - excellent food
Frolics Restaurant, Southerndown - again, excellent but you need to book in advance.
Olympia take-away on Nolton Street make awesome pizzas as do LA 2000 - shame you shut the late-night restaurant
China City takeaway ( Chinese food if you had'nt worked it out) Very very good. Especially good value are the single person special meals. Home delivery too.
"Tino's" on the corner of Coychurch Rd is the best chippy in town by a long way. Go there and go there now.
The burger van in the car park of Lidl's on the retail park is excellent.
Rumour has it that KFC will open in town soon. (Is that a good thing or not....?)
loads of them
greasy as you like
Epics Cantonese is fantastic - by far the best Chinese restaurant in town.
Also, the Cowbridge Road chip shop.
2 for a fiver in the Pen-y-bont, shit hot.
The Ashoka is a good Indian
The New Garden in Aberkenfig is good if you go for sit down, but FRANKLY if you're wanting a take away go next door cos its cheaper and better
While we're on the point al of the pubs in the area are turning into FOOD OUTLETS anyway
Kebabs, no end of choice
Chinese: FRANKLY I'd rather have an Indian (But I couldn't eat a whole one)
My final advice is to stay indoors and cook it yourself
5 BELLS £2.99 Steak & chips and lots of other choices as well, The lanlord takes a bit of getting used to.
COITY CASTLE Gribsville, you can get half a chicken and chps for £1.50 as lond as you take a friend (2 for the price of 1,you understsand)
Avoid Kentuky Fried Chicken like the plague. The bloke with the dodgy eye looks pretty unhygenic, makes cracking pizza though.
McDonalds all over, @ Waterton Cross, Nolton Street (formerly BurgerMaster), and MacArthur Glen at the Parc. Good food at "The Pied Piper" on the A473
We now have 2 McDonalds' within 2 miles of each others.
La Terrazza - Best Italian restaurant this side of Cardiff. Excellent food and good atmosphere. Pop in and meet Giorgio, June and family.
The WORST chippy in the area is The Triangle Fish Bar on Brackla. Avoid it like the Plague.Even when drunk. Even when very drunk. The chips defy description and would merit a petrol bomb through the window if they tried serving up that sort of garbage anywhere else...Eeuch!
The chinese in Aberkenfig probably one of the best in SouthWales
Bar-b-que, top of town in Nolton street. Great Kebabs... Try it.
Los Amigos, upstairs in the Wyndham, now known as 'Trumps'. See Flo and Wendy. Great welcome.. Also GREAT food.
The Watermill at Ogmore by Sea is a great night out, and not too expensive either.
Try the Sunday "eat as much as you can" buffet in the Raj Balti House on Nolton Street.
El Prado (Laleston, small village 1.5 miles from Bridgend) excellent food.
McDonalds, Burger Master, Wimpy (franchise). Lots of take-aways and chip shops.
Pubs
Where have the coctails gone in the SHOES! We need to make a stand!
I would have to say that Cody's "shiteclub" is by far the most rammed shed
of a pub in the whole of Bridgend (but every c**t goes there!) In its defence,
the late license is a must for any lager lout and the DJ plays Shaft for me on request.
If you could walk from one end to another without a steroid monkey spilling your booze,
it would be one of the most entertaining pubs in Bridgend (I think it is anyway)
SEE YOU THERE SOON........bitch
The Spoons. Ah the only saving grace of that s**thole known as Bridgend.
Don't go to the Roof- The Manager treats the staff like SHIT
The best one for starting off your night and probably then you wont be able to leave when you can no longer have full usage or feeling in your legs is the newly refurbished THE SHOES always great happy doormen unlike other places I can mention . Once in the staff are always friendly , girls check out Owen hes hot . The music used to be realy good but DJ that was there before who looked realy young but was 23 has gone to australia for a year but he got the place jumping . Now well hmmm , But although the music has gone down hill you can always rely on a great time there for the rugby coverage .
viper is coming to bridgend sooon!!!!!!!!!!!!! johny dep will one it
Coity Castle, best pub in town!!!
The shoes , a great starting pub in the town before heading of to all the others , where its free entry and great music from the young looking DJ ??? Tony ...who is actualy 23 , also the main place when the rugby or main sports are on .
How about mentioning Jaggers Tollhouse, its a great, lively spot with a great atmosphere and some wicked DJ's; look for bald headed Sid and also for Martyn
loads in town centre
Dawsons chair throwing in the welcome was fun. He was always very good and waving to us as we walked to and from Brynteg school. Amazing how he never recognised us as customers in his pub!
The catholic Club in maesteg(also known as the M.C.C)is a great place for all you over 60,s out there. It is also known for its remarkamble and good looking staff, mainly including Sean and John!Stay away from Chris, hes the ugly one!
CODY'S
The Roof and Cody's, but these have both apparently banned me. However, I shall return with great vengeance.
There's a boozer for all tastes. Would suggest getting bladdered on good quality ales somewhere like the Coity Castle before venturing to the Roof or Cody's. You won't mind drinking the gnat's piss they serve up at these places then.
The Shoes (AKA 'Sports Caffy') is great on international day. Screens everywhere!
I think maybe the clock in the Brackla Two Brewers is a little fast. Surely, they shouldn't STILL be open?
The Roof, on a Saturday or Sunday, has the heart-warming sight of ROGER PAT collecting glasses. RODGE, or WODGE, is a blast.
IN BETTWS THE ODD FELLOWS AND THE CLUB THATS IT REALLY.
The Dunraven Arms Hotel in the centre of Bridgend has 2 pubs inside. Cody's saloon (named after Buffalow Bill who apparently stayed in the hotel once) is a large busy pub with a dance floor, very good DJ's and bands frequently; also contains The Weybridge, which is the quieter bar of the two, good to sit around in with friends having a chat. Both Cody's and The Weybridge are open to 2am on Friday and Saturday night ie. no need to go to one of Bridgend's nightclubs!
The Roof now opens until 1am Monday to Saturday and has a large beer garden - the DJ, Julian, plays all the cult songs from 60's, 70's and 80's along with the latest such as Catatonia, Sterophonics and the manics - great pub for Sunday nights in the summer.
Right where Can I Start??
BELLS: Mans drinking pub, sport, builders, Dai Oakley (need I say more)
COACH & HORSES: Cheap beer ( but some times you might have to converse wiht the lower orders)
WELCOME: Wankers (THIS IS FOR THE ATTENTION OF THE FIRST PERSON WHO IS READING THIS: You know what I mean!!!, publish something else if you must)
O NEILLS: Preferably a pub to go to when at about half past four to five o'.cloock - because usually the scum has gone by then - you can have a CRAIC with normal people!!!
That will do for now, will be issuing a list shortly of every pub within a 15 mile radius
Pleaser post these messages as I think that you'll agree just like us they're a bit ofa laugh (or is that being presumptious)
The courthouse cafe bar, opened just under a year ago is probably one of the classiest places in bridgend....Be warned though, it is full of older customers, not a place for the younger.
OPENING SOON WEATHERSPOON, ANOTHER CLASSY PLACE WITHOUT MUSIC, ENTERTAINMENT OR SUCH A WIDE AUDIENCE.........AVOID FOR YOUR OWN SAKE!
the vic is a great pub why not come to karaoke on thurs, fri, sat, and some sundays
there's great beer and a great menu or visit the great pool room upstairs or relax in the beer garden
The Two Brewers, Brackla
Has to be the frequently refurbished O'Neill's.
Codys is good now it has been made bigger and more people under the age of 40 visit it
The Three Golden Cups at Ogmore , where you'll find people with people they shouldn't be seen with .
The Haywain at Brackla is a great place for the over 30s, but if you're looking up market, try joining the Ogmore Club in Caroline Street.
Come on, the Coach has to be the best pub around. Where else serves Worthies best at a mere 1.20 and it's a damn fine pint too. Mates, good beer and good pool!!
In the seventies The Royal Oak was the best pub in Bridgend. It was full every night playing cards and darts and drinking Worthington beer.
A brief guide to the Garw valley, North of Bridgend:
Llangeinor - The Green Meadow - never been in, but it often still looks full when I drive past at midnight.
Lluest / Pontyrhyl - The Braich y Cymer, basically someones house. Cheap, crap beer and full of loud, unwashed people. Beer garden (concrete) pleasant enough in summer if it's not full of sreaming brats.
Pontycymer (deserves a town guide to itself) - The Ffaldau - only go here if you're an octogenerian or a farmer, or preferably both. The Squirrel - rowdy side, full of valleys car theifs and drug dealers (allegedly), and lounge bit with generally quiet, but friendly regulars, or more often than not, empty. Reasonable beer (probably best bet in the Garw).
Blaengarw - never been here, I value my hub caps (actually, my whole car)
If you've got transport head for the Llangeinor Arms on top of Mynydd Llangeinor. Nothing special, but in a very nice spot. Turn right at Llangeinor (coming from Bridgend), up the very windy hill. Turn left on the top up a dead end lane. Sort of recommended.
The best pub in Bridgend is the Three Horse Shoes. It has recently been fully refurbished costing £130,000 and has been renamed The Shoes.
The Five Bells and the Kings Head should be added to the list of pubs though as I think they serve the best beer in the town. I would add that the Bells in particular is for the slightly older drinker than the two pubs you already mention!! The Kings Head has been renamed as "O'Neills" and is now an Irish Theme Pub. OK if you like that sort of thing. The beer (especially the Caffrey's and the Guinness) is more expensive than it used to be. I agree that O'Neils the former Kings Head does serve a pint of ale at the highest standard.
The Roof
The Welcome II Town
Cafes and Coffee Shops
Oh Latte`
ty coffi (a thing that belongs to sidolis icecream!)
Ginnys Tearoom in Nolton Arcade .......the best cuppa in town and great food.
I BELEIVE THERE IS ONE AT THE BOTTOM SITE OF THE VILLAGE BUT I HAVEN'T BEEN THERE FOR A WHILE NOW.
Not the solid rock cafe unless your are christian
The Solid Rock cafe is a bit of a weary joint to hang around in. When s frind of mine asked "Has it ever been packed in here?" the member of staff replied (quote) "One time right, we had 15 people in here ALL AT ONCE it was mad!!!"
Urrrrhh! Okay!!!
Good old Ogmore Vale.... yum yum
Ogmore Vale Bakery is the pits. Take a look at the kitchen on your way past and watch the rats run along the surfaces.
