  • Used to hang around outside the ice rink in the early to mid nineties getting drunk on twenty twenty brought from the off license at the bottom of Outram Street!!! Thought it was cool to smoke fags and would go boy hunting!!
  • The sundial. That hallowed place where the teens sit and spit and drink and fight...You can't miss it, it's that massive eyesore in the middle of sutton. Some of the paving has even fallen out in places, and replaced with low-cost low-quality tarmac. Poor show guys.
  • you can pretty much hang out on the sundial, outside usa fried chicken, on the infamous sutton lawn or the amazing sundial...or for the truely daring roam between all these places

  • The lammas swings used to be a favourite spot for hanging out with mates, and usually getting drunk. Bowler, Pecker, Roy and Daz are you still there... You don't see the kids hang there much now. Happy days the early 80's.
  • prob tha market place or anywhere the kids can drink without bein caught
  • it used to be the lawn, now its either the market or sundial where the boys either have there socks tucked in their trousers or have really long greasy hair, so we go and join all the other underage drinkers in the woolpack on a friday

  • the best place to hook up, was probably the market, u could probably pick any thing up there, provided you didnt wish to pull any thing above a under class (lower class if lucky) cider drinkin roll up smoking yob, whos only goal in life was to be the first in line on a monday mornin to collect his giro, the girls on the other hand they tended to aim a lil higher, it was a competition to see who could have the most kids b4 they left school, feel quite sure my year walked all over other years in that on!!! still sutton was the place i was born and bred! but thanx to my mother i hung out at nappy night!!! still i didnt get pregnant and am now a university student do i didnt do too bad im sure!!!
  • THE ICE RINK!! WE ALL MEET UP IN THE ICE RINK CARPARK!!
  • The sundial is where all the skaters and bikers hang out. It aint as good as the market tho, cos that's where the cider drinkers hang out. Some of you people may know me as Dave O Mac, the Great One. Bye! daveomac2003@yahoo.com
  • On the roof of the old factory, or at my cousin paylors house
  • The old pit tip, sitting at the very top so you can view Sutton and the surroundings for miles on end... Aghhh! Quite terrible really.
  • Hill Crescent playing fields.
  • The market, the sundial where all the kids wear adidas bottoms with the socks high up and the cap sticking up at the from (scallies) with cheap boose!

  • The Lawn wall every other night.... Go check it for beer cans ;-)
  • In the old days it was the ice rink.
  • Ice rink with the boy racers
  • On the corner at the junction of Mansfield Road/Stanton Hill next to the Central Social Club and Downing Street, piss off it it's you and find somewhere else to get rat arsed on cheap cider...like Sutton lawn.
  • We used to sit on the wall on portland sq in the 1960's decked out in our Mods gear ( or what we could afford) waiting for the very few blokes who had scooters to make an appearance. We also went to a "coffee bar just off low st. can't remember the the name but was exotic sounding .. anyone remember?
  • behind the old fire station with the girls. swimming baths 80ts ice ring mostly drunk out of are minds. in the 80ts
  • There is nothing like hanging round sutton, alfreton road is a good place to start, walls, estates to trash, u no, but to find da real metal hedz then go to the sundial and meet da metal hedz, if u liv here and you know me my name is kev barker! another hook up spot is sutton centre school, its a school for most metal hedz and iz where crak pots go after closing time, they put fences up now tho, i liv on alfreton road and trust me, its one hell of a waste land, nothing to do but get pissed and listen to rock all day, what a life !!!
  • All the teenagers sit near sun dial, pissed off half a bottle of cider, trying to pull.
  • sundial
  • used to be the balcony which ran around the top of the idlewells eons ago in the school holidays. outside sutton baths was the place to meet your date in the 80's

  • sad 12 year old hang around the bus station
  • Used to be the Lawn. Now people tend to go to each others' houses, or down town.
  • I am so uneasy to relate such old time events as in 1942, but here goes. Hook-up spots, Dances, 5 days per week. Monkey Run, Sunday evening. Hillocks school youth club. Swimming club of course in summer.Hooking up for my generation was more in our minds than what really happened. Hayman Ralph in California
  • Most of the yougsters that from skegby side of Sutton hang around the Spider Rec.
  • The Market. Another hangout used to be the Lawn: kids could get drunk down there without getting hassled.

What is Knowhere?

The Knowhere Guide started out as a list of places to skateboard in the UK. It is a compilation of (unedited) information and views supplied by users like yourself. It is not a conventional tourist guide!

In most cases, the information in each section has been submitted by more than one contributor (the credits at the bottom of the page list some, but not all, of the contributors) and some of it dates back to the 1970s.

We make no claims as to the accuracy of the information in the Guide - our only purpose is to provide a forum for users to share their knowledge and opinions. So please keep a large bag of salt handy and be prepared to read between the lines!

If you disagree with a comment, or information is out of date, please submit an update! The contributors come from all walks of life, and their opinions are bound to be subjective, so if your view isn't represented, please speak up and contribute to the balance of the Guide. See below in the 'Have Your Say' section for how to add your voice.
