Clubs (Dance Music) and Music Bars
New venue - The Gallery. Its open now, but gets its late license in Time for the officuial launch event - BREAKFLUID - which will be inviting big name hip hop, breakbeat and funk/soul acts to the city. The first night takes place Weds 18th May and plays host to the incredible Freestylers (LIVE).
Temptation (next to old 'Woody's/Booker T's in the church) isn't so bad, Thursday is goth night, Friday some kind of trance or something of equal scale, Saturday some kind of dance night too but on saturdays you have to wear proper shoes and no jeans. Club K (formerly Senators) is pretty good if your wasted and its packed, they always have a lot of diff nights going on, drum and bass, funk, hip hop, dance, oldskool etc etc.
Club K (formerly Senators)- very youthful patrons(!) Friday nights ok if u like gob and punch Saturdays- hip hop- good if u like hip hop!
Temptation (formerly woodys)- Big cheese on Fridays usually a good crowd. Saturdays also good and sometimes visiting D.J's Wednesdays cheap nite.
Chicago rock- can be a laugh but mostly older peeps. Drinks v.pricy.
Club K, formerly Senators, every saturday there is Downhill there, a hip hop/funk nite also they do dub/reggae nights and starting to do live bands (starting 19th June 2002 - Embassy Row!)
Took a trip to the Island with a couple of friends of mine recently and we ended up looking for a large one in Newport. Ryde seemed shite so we moved to the Capital. Chicargo Rock was exactly what we expected, expensive drinks and dodgy music, not a great start to a hen weekend. Moving round to a venue formely known as Senators ( now Klub K ) paid our fivers to get in, left after 15 minutes full of 16 year olds off their faces to bang - bang - bang choons. We ended up at the newly refitted Woody's in St James st. FUCKING HELL, what a club. Lovely people, friendly yes friendly doorstaff and shit hot DJS. The friday was so good we went back on Saturday. Saturday was a bit harder but very funky nonetheless and the DJ,Ian Knocka Dore, sorted us all out with free entry next time we come back down. Suffice to say we're travelling back down in August. So contrary what may have been said about this place before ( it was booker T's apparently ) it is bloody awesome. They've got a good site as well www.woodyscafebar.com and our picture is on it. Go have a look...
Senators- Err if you want.
Woodys- Small and hardly the Hacienda but you can drink until 2 in the morning. Wednesdays it is a £1 a pint and 80p a shot of Vodka. Wide range of ages. Guranteed the Vengaboys
Chicago Rock Cafe is opening in the Multiplex eventually.
woody's is open till 2 and has £1 a drink
Senators night club. Woody's night club
Booker T's - shut down. Senators - dire as ever. There are only three options in Newport at 11pm - go to Ryde, go to Sandown, or go to bed.
Booker T's is alright, sometimes a bit of a squash.
i hear the fort's good , but definately not bogie's, senators, booker t's, and that other awful one, uh i can't remember what its called
Booker T's in Lower St. James' Street. Excellent, if a little small, night club.
Live Music Venues
Chicago Rock Cafe situated in the new complex on Coppins Bridge is an excellent venu for a wicked night out. Music from the 50's up untill 86 great D.J's especially FRENCHIE. Check this out if you just want to PARTY !!!

None whatsoever, they're building a multiplex

There's only one now, but I enjoyed the old Odean in Pyle Street before it was demolished.
